This was, hands down, the hardest song of 1993...🔥🔥🔥

Remarkable-Will-3041@reddit
I had a giant home stereo in college, I for sure paid a city noise violation ticket for this, and later the mortal combat theme song. The doom soundtrack isn't too shabby either.
Sodamyte@reddit
Still part of my workout playlist
humid_pajamas@reddit
This, the ZEO theme, X-Men theme, and Mortal Kombat theme will all always be on my running playlist.
Sodamyte@reddit
The 1995 movie Mortal Kombat soundtrack was the first CD to be played in my very first portable discman
NotmyMain503@reddit
Have you checked out the Arm Cannon cover? That one's on mine.
Tylerdurden389@reddit
Same. I even listen to the other songs during the fight scenes (call the 5-for-1, go green ranger, etc...).
humid_pajamas@reddit
…which is why it’s on my running playlist

One of the Xennial/Millenial lines of demarcation.
Quato815@reddit
I don’t know anyone in our age group that watched this show. My little bro who was 10 years younger did. Is this a bot post?
fromthedarqwaves@reddit
The story of the guy who created the show is wild. I’m doing this off memory so details might be wrong. Saban started as a jingle writer to varying degrees of success. He found himself in Japan where he saw the original show on tv in a hotel room (which provided the fight scenes). He managed to purchase the rights to use the footage in the U.S. He hired some unknown teenagers to play the rangers and created a very low budget show using the Japanese footage. I think he wrote the opening song, he definitely wrote the lyrics. He managed to market the show successfully enough for Fox to pick it up. And then the wild part. Using the popularity of the show, Saban then leveraged the broadcast rights to secure an executive position at Fox, and half ownership of Fox kids. Fox kids would go on to buy the a family channel which Disney would later buy for $5B and change to ABC Family. Saban would become a billionaire from the deal. So from hotel room idea to billionaire thanks to Go Go Power Rangers.
fromthedarqwaves@reddit
Thanks for the award! I should have fact checked it more. There’s a documentary about Saban somewhere.
wetfloor666@reddit
There is also the series on Netflix called "The Toys That Made Us" which covers it pretty well.
jtho78@reddit
Better than the X-men theme song? Hell no
sthef2020@reddit
X-Men was technically 1992.
jtho78@reddit
Barly. It was late 1992 and the scheduling was so sporadic because they couldn't finish the episodes in time.
BulimicMosquitos@reddit
Absolutely not, as both In Utero and Vs. were released that year. Plus, it feels like the bulk of us were a bit too old to be into this show.
lanemyer78@reddit
I would be here all day posting harder songs from 1993. Maybe op meant theme songs but for music in general, not even close. For example other albums released that year: Tool-Undertow, Smashing Pumpkins-Siamese Dream, Sepultura-Chaos A.D., Carcass-Heartwork, Sleep-Holy Mountain, Quicksand-Slip, Melvins-Houdini.
hbi2k@reddit
If think we're right on the cusp, as in so many things. Anyone even a little older than me didn't like the show. Anyone even a little younger loved it. My cohort was a pretty even split.
I didn't get it, myself. "So it's Ninja Turtles meets Godzilla with lame high schoolers? No thanks. Ninja Turtles was great when I was in elementary school, never cared for Godzilla, and as a lame high schooler myself, I get enough of them every day, I don't need to watch them on TV."
Can't deny that the theme song slaps though.
BulimicMosquitos@reddit
Fair enough point, my friend. I do however dispute your last claim.
GravyPainter@reddit
I was too old when this came out. The corny villains were too over the top for my angry teen brain
presidentsday@reddit
Yeah I agree. That's also why, having been born in '82, I always felt more than a little embarrassed watching and why I never brought it up with my friends. But even then, I absolutely loved ninja and kung fu movies growing up (and lots of equally colorful and over the top comic books), and Power Rangers more than scratched that itch. It's also why I'll always have a soft spot for the those first 2 (maybe 3?) seasons and the movie.
Top-Wolverine-8684@reddit
Agreed- I never thought of it as a Xennial thing. My youngest sister, born in 1988, was the only one who watched Power Rangers. The rest of us were too old.

That Rogue wink towards the end...

Holy cow that is pretty cool.

I came here to say TMNT has it over Power Rangers any day. Then I red this and lost immediately.
strider52_52@reddit
I was going to ask OP "Did you not watch the X-Men?"

Undefeated.

The Power Ranger and the X-men theme are amazing, but they didn't end with a dude repeatedly yelling spider blood like another theme did.

Hey, long as we're all dropping kids shows hair-metal anthems from 1993, may I offer SWAT Kats: The Radial Squadron to the pile?
GalacticToasterbruh@reddit
I love this song, do you guys think this song is classified as Metal? I do
Tylerdurden389@reddit
The main riff is basically Metallica master of puppets/no remorse.
SharpJET420@reddit
Fun fact is that theme song wasn't even done by a guitar, it was done by a keyboard patch. It even fooled Eddie Van Halen.

Whwn i work out, Not only do i listen to a lot of those songs from the fight scenes, but I even listen to the Sega genesis versions from one of the videogames lol.
Comprehensive-Fact94@reddit
Ron Wasserman not being in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame is a tragedy.
This masterpiece alone should guarantee him a spot. Not to mention the X-Men Animated series theme.
SolarDarkMagician@reddit
Man, Power Rangers had so many awesome songs. The original theme was so badass.
I babysat my little brother and we'd watch until Power Rangers SPD, when he grew out of it. A lot of those themes were pretty great.
The Song or Confusion from an episode of Power Rangers Turbo is stuck with me all these years later because it was way better than it needed to be for a throwaway episode. 😎
