I don’t know how to explain it, but the overall situation is really gross to me. Like, something something china economic model, but also free market and opportunistic mechanic sprinkled with scam and despair. I don’t know, there are so many layers to it.
Nuck_Chorris_Stache@reddit
It's like onions. It stinks and makes people cry.
3VRMS@reddit
May recession to the mean make memory cheap again, in an ideal world for consumers, even cheaper than before per gig.
nonaveris@reddit
Let the deluge of affordable memory rain down on them.
PJBuzz@reddit
Great.
Hope it keeps going.

Toilet paper during COVID type of vibes
Kasenom@reddit
I think oil prices briefly hit zero during the pandemic
NotFromAntarctica88@reddit
Didn't know that. I need to learn how to trade commodities. A lot of people must've made a fortune on that.
Beige_@reddit
IIRC some prices paid were actually negative as you had tankers full of oil with nowhere to go. Too bad I didn't have lots and lots of empty canisters in my shed to make millions with!
misoscare@reddit
Let it hit zero, let it hit zero and watch the madness ensue.

Live by the sword, die by the sword.
Taki_Minase@reddit
The sword coast has lots of swords
FrequentWay@reddit
Screw hoarders and resellers. They made a bet and got caught holding the bag.
Taki_Minase@reddit
May they taste the consequences of their greedy gluttony.
Canadian_Border_Czar@reddit
Consumers got screwed too, but at least I bought my RAM out of necessity.
chandleya@reddit
Doubt you bought a terabyte of consumer ram
Ashikura@reddit
People forget that taking gambles to profit off others sometimes leads to them getting screwed in turn.
grannyte@reddit
No choice they have to dump them before the price crash completly lol
Midiamp@reddit
This is the same reporting about a used DDR2 and DDR3 warehouse owner throwing a fit from a few days ago.
sinwarrior@reddit
Good.
boo_ood@reddit
DDR2/3's price is still extremely cheap, and has basically no impact on DDR4/5 pricing though...
New_Mix_2215@reddit
On paper yes, but i have had issues getting supply with embedded computers with DDR3 memory lately.
zhantoo@reddit
Might be some special DDR3 memory then?
New_Mix_2215@reddit
Shouldnt be, its just a fanless intel atom PC.
zhantoo@reddit
Weird. DDR3 is plenty and haven't really increased in pricing from what I have seen
hackenclaw@reddit
cealrly not cheap enough, I am looking for 4x4GB DDR3 2133 at $5, surely these guys will let it go for such low price?
Zarmazarma@reddit
The article specifically talks about prices of DDR5 going down though.
Zarmazarma@reddit
That's not what the article says, but maybe that's where the "we're doomed" quote comes from?
Midiamp@reddit
I really don't know why there's so many conflicting stories and or contents about DRAM prices. I think I will abstain from commenting anymore about these DRAM price dropping posts. DRAM prices predicted to jump 63% in Q2, NAND up to 75% — follows 95% jumps in Q1, Trendforce says AI server demand keeps supply tight | Tom's Hardware

Justice always comes around
DigiHumanMediaCo@reddit
Good, I hope they learn their lesson
Y0tsuya@reddit
Narrator: They won't, because this happens regularly and is just the latest example of speculative stockpiling.
JohnnyricoMC@reddit
The dildo of consequence is seldom lubed.
unSentAuron@reddit
Wait, how is the price of DDR5 falling?? Are there new manufacturers now?
cultoftheilluminati@reddit
Because OpenAI basically came out and said they don't have money and are finding hard to find funding given competition from others and that's spooking memory speculators and manufacturers
Leo1_ac@reddit
Guys, the China twitter post in the OP story was made on April 1st.
nittanyofthings@reddit
If they die, they die.
cdthrowmyselfaway@reddit
live by the die die by the die
Darkomax@reddit
It's a sacrifice I'm willing to make.
shiroandae@reddit
Im even willing to help.
timfountain4444@reddit
Oh no. Anyway, it's cold for this time of year isn't it?
Crafty_Aspect8122@reddit
I need to find the world's smallest violin.
Lucidmike78@reddit
The prices are still 2-3x. What I can believe is the loss of interest of people wanting to upgrade their ram.
Vushivushi@reddit
Spot prices climbed to >$40/GB when contracts were still at $10/GB.
Idiots.
ObjectivelyLink@reddit
So does that mean they will likely go down or up
shiroandae@reddit
Yes
III-V@reddit
Neither. They are just saying it was obvious that prices would come crashing down. Spot price is what you pay / sell at "on the spot" (that is, now). Contract price is a guaranteed price for a certain future date. You could just buy a cheap contract and wait the nonsense out.
GenericUser1983@reddit
That article is from yesterday; are we sure it is not an April Fools joke?
Nicholas-Steel@reddit
Or that it's AI.
sicklyslick@reddit
Are we even sure the video wasn't scripted/parody? It's a bunch of ddr2/3 modules that have no value.
Anyone expert on Chinese social media can chime in?
DETRosen@reddit
It says "Apr 2nd 2026, 18:30 GMT"
TKInstinct@reddit
How much down are we talking?
III-V@reddit
This is a short-term correction and doesn't really indicate how things will play out in the long run. It's just saying the shortage in the short term wasn't as desperate as some people anticipated, and some gamblers lost.
Nicholas-Steel@reddit
Why are you helping the person that didn't read the article?
Exciting_Strike5598@reddit
The best news in a while
Loose_Skill6641@reddit
FYI: this has zero impact on ram prices or stock at your local PC store
goldcakes@reddit
I feel so sad and sorry for them… not!
braaibros@reddit
Bet they weren’t crying when prices were going up
Ready-Inspection6280@reddit
They were, but it was tears of joy
ya3rob@reddit
They did the same thing with gold a few weeks back!!! The problem with small Chinese investors, they invest in masses! So you can actually feel the burn at the international level!!!
Domain_Administrator@reddit
SenKats@reddit
I will take your modules for a low fee. No problem. Just send em to me along with the money.
fumar@reddit
Oh no. Almost as if that was a risk they took
