It's less about making them better and more not making them worse. The single stick mags that go up to 10 rounds are all generally fine. The large 19 round mags have a coupler. Torque the screws on the coupler and you bend the mags. Usually the follower will get stuck if you torque them too much. I know some people strip the paint off the top half of the mag and remove the bolt hold open tap. I haven't had those issues. I have sanded down all the sharp edges on the follower which seems to help with feeding.

I think ammo selection is big one with these magazine. If you buy shotgun shells with soft hulls the magazine will squish them and then you may have trouble feeding and chambering rounds. Need to use ammo with hard hulls. Cheapo Walmart winchester with the smooth hulls tend to be pretty soft. The federal have a corrugated hull that is more firm that I like to run. If I am competing on a hot day I will put my loaded magazine in a cooler full of ice. The heat will further soften the already soft hulls and cause feeding issues.

Lastly run the right velocity ammo for gas ring you are running. The light gas ring will typically run the lower velocity bird shot well but if you have a stage with slugs or buck shot you could have issues if you are running typical high velocity loads. Need to find low velocity often advertised as low recoil slugs and buck if you are running the light gas ring. With the heavy gas ring installed you should have been luck with the standard recoil/velocity slugs and buck but you might have issues with low velocity cheapo bird shot.
