Speaking of socks, is it cool now to wear them with sandals because at one point it was dorky looking.

Imd1rtybutn0twr0ng@reddit
It's never okay or cool

It was...is...and shall forever be... a Dorky Looking Style Decision.
SignificantOtter80@reddit
the only time I think it’s ok is with those adidas slides with the little nubs in the footbed. you’ll tear your feet up if you dont wear socks
MulberrySelect4234@reddit
No. Still looks stupid. Like wearing a jacket with shorts. If it's cold enough where you need a jacket, put some damn pants on.
74greyhound@reddit
Always have
Ghia149@reddit
it's just more comfortable when it's cold out but you still want to wear sandals.

White mid shin nike socks? Check. Birks? Checkz cargo shorts? Check. Pussy?
Human-Mango8266@reddit
It will never stop being dorky. The real question is if you care about looking dorky more than you want to be comfortable
Sufficient-Quote-431@reddit
No one wear sandals anymore. It’s all crocs.
And yes, if you wear crocs with socks and you’re under the age of 25 he will be undateable for the rest of your life
New-Sheepherder2239@reddit
No. No it isn’t cool
Luckydaikon@reddit
I live in Philly and most people seem to wear socks. It looks dorky but I sure as hell wouldn't walk too close to barefoot in Filthidelphia.
YourGuyK@reddit
Its still dorky looking. Whether it's "OK" depends on if you care that you look dorky or not.
Altruistic_Bus1988@reddit
My teen daughter refuses to wear sandals without socks. Apparently, the kids now think showing your feet at all is gross. Yes, I make fun of her for it 😂
Hot-Clock6418@reddit
i heard it’s because “no free feet pics”
Affectionate_You5647@reddit
ExampleLittle2672@reddit
Weirdly, it is probably this.
Socks and sandals are still dorky but 'Hey look, sexy adolescent toes' is worse.
Pretend-Menu-8660@reddit
It’s def the foot fetish thing. These kids know everything now bc of TikTok. I knew nothing of the sort in the 90s. I remember being in a Sam Ash to pick up guitar strings and the associate told me how much he loved my purple toe nail polish and kept going on and on and looking down at my feet and then invited me in the back where he said he could give me a foot massage. Iwwwwwe. If I was so aware of this as a kid, I’d wear socks with sandals now too please 🙏🏻 #nofreefeetpics … it’s a movement
Yummers78@reddit
Some older teen approached me in a parking lot once and asked if he could buy my socks, he stuttered and tripped over his words while giving me a rambling weird reason.
Pretend-Menu-8660@reddit
That’s insane 😭
Yummers78@reddit
I swear !!! These fetishes confuse me. Like the scat one and this smell one 🫤
Pretend-Menu-8660@reddit
Oh man do I even want to know what the scat one is? 🫣
ExampleLittle2672@reddit
There are plenty I don't understand, these have been around for ages and are real to many. I reckon to each their own as long as no one involved is harmed or made uncomfortable. The ones I will call out and fight are the ones that are non consensual.
I had the freedom to grow up in flipflops, sandals and open toes. "Kids today" aren't so lucky.
ArchitectVandelay@reddit
The “free” freaks me out because it could be construed as, “but when I get home and go on can you can pay me to see them.” I’m genuinely concerned about the “hide it in public, but show it for the internet” mentality that’s going on now.
YourGuyK@reddit
I dont get it. I wear sandals to air out my feet. If I'm going to wear socks, it defeats the purpose.
Ordinary_Awareness71@reddit
It's so sweaty feet don't stick to the sandal. At least that's why I use them. That and my feet look like I'm the typical guy who doesn't give a hoot about foot maintenance. :)
AmazingRefrigerator4@reddit
Same. Though my foot it worse due to multiple surgeries.
AmazingRefrigerator4@reddit
Really? Socks are incredibly breathable and light. I feel like having a sock between my foot and the sole of a sandal/flip flops makes my foot air out better. Sweaty foot on. Rubber/leather soles is gross.
Any_Conflict_5092@reddit
It's because of foot fetish stuff online. They're all freaks about being sexualized without their consent.
TotallyNotRobotEvil@reddit
That's a really sad but fair point. Didn't even think about that.
BeastieBeck@reddit
I'm absolutely sure there are now people fetishizing socks with sandals as well.
Careful-Use-4913@reddit
Wearing socks won’t keep anyone from being sexualized without their consent. Lechers are gonna lech.
Slartibartghast_II@reddit
i think every generation gets handed a new trauma that doesn’t work at all the way it seems like it should.
ExampleLittle2672@reddit
Fair point, but consider how many generations lived their parents lives. At least to some degree. Parents of today did have internet, but in the world of human evolution, things now move so very, very swiftly.
YourGuyK@reddit
I mean, I don't care if someone wears socks with sandals, it's just not for me.
Confident-Sound-4358@reddit
Then your sandals get all gooey from sweat. The soles don't get to breathe and that's where the perspiration is coming from.
_dead_and_broken@reddit
....what?
TrixieBastard@reddit
You clearly don't have sweaty feet
_dead_and_broken@reddit
Only when I wear socks and shoes. I've never had the problem when my feet are free ballin' it in a pair of sandals or flip flops.
Ghisteslohm@reddit
I often wear flip flops with socks. Reasons: my feet look kinda fucked up. socks are comfortable. even with socks its much more on the air than inside a shoe while beeing slightly warmer than beeing barefoot. you wont wear these on cold days of course but in mornings/evenings it can be relevant.
gives me the impression that my feet are shielded against bugs.
while I do want to upgrade to the classic birkenstocks eventually, I wonder if people dislike the straps directly on the foot instead of on the sock.
MossGobbo@reddit
It's literally about them being afraid of people taking feet pics despite that not being a common thing at all.
jtee180@reddit
Exactly.
MAGAisforMorons@reddit
The people who enjoy socks and sandals were using an iPad before they could read or write. Try not to make sense of it all, it'll drive you bananas.
Slartibartghast_II@reddit
i doubt they enjoy it, they just hear everyone freaking out about foot fetishists online
SaltyD0gg0h@reddit
Apprehensive_Hat8986@reddit
Unless your socks are made of duct-tape, they should breathe.
TotallyNotRobotEvil@reddit
Yeah I thought GenZ was against showing your ankles, like some dirty street hussy, now.
Radiant_Bluebird4620@reddit
someone (weirdo) walked up and photographed my feet the last time I wore flip-flops. ick. Also who wants to see the feet of a 45year old who stands at least 8 hours a day. Also a coworker who saw me in sandals repeatedly texts me and asks for feet pics. No, I won't send photos of my feet.
Anyway I guess there are apparently a bunch of people who sexualize feet, and my personal experience of this is the creepy kind of attention that most women want to avoid. I'm sure there are plenty of non-creeps who like feet too, but obviously the negative attention gains more notice
xSir-@reddit

That’s Birkenstocks and it’s a style choice for the teenage girls, usually an athlete or going for comfort. Teva and socks will never not be dorky as hell.
temporary_bob@reddit
Yes as a soccer mom (which I seem to have become), slides are de rigeur as something to put sweaty socked feet into between and after games. It's a relief thing for athletes for sure. I don't see it in the Gen Alpha set unless it's in the context of sports.
Soniquethehedgedog@reddit
Yep as a dad of high school volleyball players, and an under 10 one, as well as an athletic director at a middle school, they’re mandatory from the kids views.
taxilicious@reddit
We used to wear our Birkenstocks in the winter with wool socks 😆😆
I live in Michigan, to give you some perspective on how dumb that is 🤣
NotActuallyJen@reddit
I mean, I'm in Illinois, and I still do that if it's not slushy
Melliorin@reddit
time is a flat circle, and the Victorian era is re-emerging I guess.
Hairy_Cattle_1734@reddit
That’s funny, because I’d think the easiest solution to that would just be NOT wearing sandals. I don’t like seeing/showing feet either, so I just don’t wear sandals.
New_Stats@reddit
Because the creepy foot fettish people crawled out of the woodwork
JackSpadesSI@reddit
Omg my daughter adamantly refuses to expose her feet anywhere. She says they’re “too sexual”. So this is a universal thing with that generation?
temporary_bob@reddit
WEIRD AF.
StaticNegative@reddit
Get Z loveds wearing socks especially with slides. The prison slide look. Haha
Sharon_Erclam@reddit
My father calls them 'Mandals' 😂
Neat_Shallot_606@reddit
So no women can wear them? Sexism? I am not sure if I am offended or not.
Sharon_Erclam@reddit
Lol what? He calls them mandals because he's a man..
Apprehensive_Hat8986@reddit
You may be uncertain, but the snowflake who downvoted you definitely is. 🤣
fermentedradical@reddit
Yes. What the hell is the point of wearing socks with sandals? Either you want your feet exposed or you don't. If you don't, wear shoes. Sandals with socks are just weird.
Grumpy-Troglodyte@reddit
counterpoint. i bought these "slides" (which is another topic altogether but what a dumb name) that sit by the door that i put my sock wearing feet in when i take the dog out. it's pretty literally the only time i wear them. but unless i'm in bed or the shower i've got on socks.
can i get an exception for that?
YourGuyK@reddit
You don't need an exception. Just do what you like.
TrixieBastard@reddit
Yeah, people being so fucking judgy about a completely benign thing is what's weird here
mizushimo@reddit
Socks with sandals were big when we were in middle school, everyone had to wear bike flip flops with white socks. I'm glad nature is healing.
SnorvusMaximus@reddit
What kind of likeness do you see in that? The difference is the same as wearing a sweater vs wearing a leather jacket with nothing underneath it. Or sweatpants vs leather pants.
Mirror74@reddit
I've done this before when I'm running a quick errand, but not with white socks.
I know I look like a dorky but I dgaf lol
ExampleLittle2672@reddit
The white socks really do make or break the "look"

I live in Florida, socks with slides is pretty common and I do it because the tips of my toes get cold.

In MN it was acceptable to wear socks with Birkenstocks when it was cool out. In college people wore them in the winter with thick wool socks. Moved to TX I constantly got mocked. Maybe it’s acceptable in some regions more than others. Now I live somewhere it’s ok to wear socks with sandals!

To me, wearing socks and sandals says you can't afford sneakers.

I’ll tell my nephew who’s a senior in high school. He’s also half black and has his hair in twists right now and it’s something to see
Twisted hair, short pastel shorts and socks and sandals. He and I live in different universes. Soon we will be back to knee length basketball shorts and knee high black socks.
BeastieBeck@reddit
German grandpa summer style meets senior high school.
SquirrelyMcNutz@reddit
You can get knee length shorts anytime.
It's finding ones that go PAST the knee that are the trouble. A XXXL short isn't longer anymore, just wider at the waist.
Yes, I like my almost-to-the-calf length basketball shorts.
avalonfaith@reddit
I'm confused about the hair in twists being a thing. Maybe I'm putting 10a on something that is a 2 but I don't really get it.
Killahdanks1@reddit
It’s because the socks and sandals is such an old white guy look, and or your kid does it because you do. So to see it on a young black man is at odds with the stereotype I grew up with.
avalonfaith@reddit
lol! Yeah, mos def can see that and surely would be something I'd make fun of my nephews for doing, and they'd for sure do this. I got my pickers up, sorry. It's a 1, not even a 2.

This is offensive. I am a middle aged Midwest woman and I haven’t worn socks with sandals since my Birkenstocks in the mid-90s! 😝😂

It happens a lot in the PNW. We have to claim all of our sun whether or not it is cold, so...socks and sandals.
JamieTacos4220@reddit

I did it once, but it was because I’d had minor surgery on my one of my feet and I couldn’t wear a regular shoe due to the bandages.
I wore socks over it because 1) it looked weird, 2) it helped to keep my foot dry, and 3) it happened in the winter and it was cold outside; I didn’t want my feet freezing!

Crocs are pretty great beach shoes. Or camping shoes.
BeastieBeck@reddit
I'm wearing them at home. I admit it.
BeastieBeck@reddit
In mid winter. 🥶
pennie79@reddit
I had not noticed that! My 7 year old insists on wearing socks under her sandals, but I thought that was an ND thing, similar to how she insists on wearing long sleeves in the middle of an Australian summer.
But she also prefers crew length socks to ankle length socks, and I found out that's a generational fashion thing. So maybe the socks and sandles is that for her too.
pineapples_are_evil@reddit
Birks and.socks.
My feet are always cold. If I'm not wearing socks then I need to bring indoor socks to houses.
This Canadian does not do shoes on inside unless they're specifically indoor only, and not on furniture.
I let people with foot problems or mobility /flexibility issues obviously get away with shoes indoors... I'll wipe the soles off if needed.
Second I find bare feet gross especially indoors is preferable you wear something on your feet indoors. I do like bare feet in grass, but you wash them before you come in
IvenaDarcy@reddit
Sure IF it’s closed toe slip on Birkenstocks but teens aren’t wearing the above sandals.
-piso_mojado-@reddit
That’s what I wore to work this morning. I used to never wear socks with anything. Got a bad fungal infection once and almost lost a couple toes. Never again.
IvenaDarcy@reddit
I’m from the south (New Orleans) and only shoes I ever wore that weren’t closed toe were adidas slides and we always wore them with socks. Even as hot as it is down south it just felt dirty to not wear socks and it was the style so all worked out. Fungal infection avoided lol
Only time I don’t wear socks is if I’m on the beach.
hi984390@reddit
I did like the heavy wool socks with open toed birks back in the day. But with very long jeans. The closed toed birks got me called ‘granola’ at my bartending job in the early 2000’s but hey my feet didn’t hurt at the end of the day! 😆
Ambitious_Jelly8783@reddit
They are also wearing knee high socks. These guys are not to be trusted.
jb0nez95@reddit
I recently bought my first pair of Birkenstocks in like 30 years and they don't make them out of leather anymore! It's plastic now! And they are not comfortable on bare skin, it's sticky and can't breathe. So I've not joined the socks and sandals club.
Feral_Sheep_@reddit
They also wear pajama pants to school.
Chicken_Water@reddit
My kid was going to go out in Crocs and socks. I couldn't do it.
OskeyBug@reddit
I wore them almost every day in 1996.
Shirkaday@reddit
Yeah prior to recent years I would never. Not that I wanted to, but there have been instances of extreme laziness that would have driven me to consider it. These days though, I'll do it every so often. Socks in a damn foam Birk sandal send it ...
EatLard@reddit
And German tourists.
Wise_Command9407@reddit
uhmm the 90's is always going to be the best but that sandals and socks still a no LOL doesn't he have proper trainers lol
Ginger630@reddit
It will never be cool
TrixieBastard@reddit
The slides with white athletic socks look was popular in the 90s, and the 90s are having a renaissance right now. None of this should be surprising lol
Soggy_Porpoise@reddit
You're of the age that nothing you do is cool no matter what it is. Feel free to do what you like.

OkCar7264@reddit
It varied by town. I got flack for wearing sandals without socks.
I do not like it. If it's too cold for bare feet just wear actual shows, you know? But whatever.
Latranis@reddit
Unless you're a literal cholo, white socks are dorky no matter what else you wear
BrokeAssZillionaire@reddit

Fellow Xennial here, i unapologetically prefer sandals with socks. Can't stand sweaty feet sticking to my sandals.
InfowarriorKat@reddit
Slides, not those type.
Rex_Gently@reddit
Son is a teen. Virtually every look we avoided for fear of being beaten up, is apparently cool now
evolutionxtinct@reddit
Not white…. For the love of GOD not WHITE!!!! JFC if you wear BROWN sandals you wear that color but darker or black if it’s black you can go with black grey brown… but just save us the agony of seeing white socks…
StickyBeets@reddit
It's STILL dorky looking!...
lonestar659@reddit
Yesterday at work I saw a guy wearing SOCK with sandals.
Charming-Insurance@reddit
It’s still dorky. But do what you want!

Acceptable if they’re the right socks. Can’t just do white Hanes ya gotta have cute ones.
dirtjiggler@reddit
Making me miss my Birkenstocks man

Annoyed and judging, while I wear my socks with my eldest son’s old crocs. Hmm… but not in public?
trivial772@reddit
Sandals on men is horrific. Straight up. Socks or no men should never wear them.
MossGobbo@reddit
Fuck no but also we're middle aged and being run by the Epstein Class, so like socks with sandals, while a personal no for me, is kinda like not even on my radar of issues currently.
mookpa2@reddit
No that’s always been cool, been rocking that look for 30 years now

No.
Mr_A_Rye@reddit
what are you, a German tourist?
Kendannon@reddit
You don't have to be older to stop sweating the dumb shit. Start now. :D
beer_me_babe@reddit
Still dorky sorry
Lonely_Ad6299@reddit
I feel like colored socks are more acceptable than the classic white socks with sandals. I know they’re both socks but the white ones look dorky to me. I even think (tall) white socks look dorky with sneakers.
canisdirusarctos@reddit
I have loved this since I was about 25, but people pick on me for it. It’s the best footwear setup for anywhere warm where you’re not likely to go in water, like walking a zoo or hiking in the desert.
mrtimtracy@reddit
People that wear socks with sandals are people that don’t read signs about not flying drones in federal parks
JudgeJuryEx78@reddit
I wear socks with sandals (sue me) but the bright white socks with sandals are freaking me out. Go smart wool or go home.
SteakJones@reddit
Socks and crocks are the thing now. But I think it all looks dumb. Even the OG style.
Academic-Hospital952@reddit
No
danceswithsockson@reddit
Fine with Birks or slides. Nothing else.
dickjimworm@reddit
only while wearing pajama pants
Super_Direction498@reddit
You could go a long way to making the argument that it's not dorky by wearing literally any other sock than the white cotton atrocities shown here.
JPhrog@reddit
I wear socks with my Adidas slides! I honestly don't give af about how cool it is or not and it feels so good to no longer care like I used to.
Negative-Wrap95@reddit
I wear Crocs as house slippers, what do I know about "cool"
^(We have pets, and Crocs are easy to clean when you find a "surprise")
SouthernExpatriate@reddit
I don't understand how anyone wears them without socks
I'm autistic. If my feet feel gritty I am very uncomfortable.
Combatical@reddit
Then wear shoes.
SouthernExpatriate@reddit
Because shoes always make sense
SquareGovernment3306@reddit
I rock socks and Crocs all day

notedrive@reddit
I fully accept the dorky look.
VA1N@reddit
It will never not look dorky. Whether it’s ok is up to you. Are you ok with looking dorky? Then go for it.
AssaultLemming_@reddit
It's still dorky looking. It's not in any way okay lol. Please don't do this.
TheLastBoat@reddit
Socks with Birks or Slides are good to go, anything else you’re a dweeb.
peeinian@reddit
No idea if it’s true but the reason I heard was to prevent creeps from taking photos of your feet and selling them online.
papercranium@reddit
I'm absolutely psyched that I can now wear birks and wool socks out and about, it's comfy as hell
someonehadalex@reddit
Y 13 yo hates when I wear slides with bare feet. It might be a show thing..

At a certain age, many of us stop caring about what things look like to others.
So, it's up to you, I guess.
InvisiblePinkUnic0rn@reddit
At least your not wearing ankle socks…
rockangelyogi@reddit
Seems totally fashionable now.
kingSliver187@reddit
prayersforrain@reddit
only if said sandals are slides or crocs
pregnantandsober@reddit
I kind of agree. Socks with Birkenstocks are acceptable, but those sandals in the picture are awful. And nothing that slides between the toes.
-OccultOfPersonality@reddit
This is completely expected and normal in Portland, OR.
BrokenSweetDee@reddit
Y'all don't count and know that. Because we all know the dream of the 90s is alive in Portland.

Suspicious-Yard4205@reddit
It's true. I lived in Seattle before then.
kaotate@reddit

TappyMauvendaise@reddit
I live here. Can confirm. Portland is pretty anti-fashion.
denverblazer@reddit
Has been for decades. Grunge was meant to be the absence of interest in fashion, then unintentionally became its own style.
metmerc@reddit
Not usually white socks, though. More likely wool socks from the Columbia employee store - same place we all get our rain gear.
I still don't do it, though, and reserve my Birks for the warmer weather.
Ok-Concert-6475@reddit
It's like that in Seattle too. Much more common to see wool socks than basic white ones.
mister_burns1@reddit
Stank ass hippies and hippie adjacent losers, no doubt.
drtyhppi@reddit
Did someone call for me?
Ok-Concert-6475@reddit
Also in Seattle. It's been that way since at least the early 90s, if not earlier. Never went out of style.
Human_League6449@reddit
For me, it’s diabolical. I like my little piggies to get fresh air when I wear sandals.
saltnshadow@reddit
I wear toe-socks with flip-flops, fight me.
wheelsonhell@reddit
Nope, still dorky
PutNameHere123@reddit
Depends on the socks and sandals.
White gym socks with knockoff Birkenstocks Ala the photo shown in this post? 100%.
Platform satin sandals with ruffled pointelle socks? Haute couture.
Allureme@reddit
Need
mousee3176@reddit
No. Cardinal rules include no socks with sandals. Just because kids do it doesn't make it cool. They wear mom jeans what do they know?
MajesticEmergency@reddit
Every time I see a Gen Z wearing a Champion sweatshirt with Crocs plus socks, I think of how any kid when we were growing up wearing something like that would have probably been shoved into a locker.
timberwolf0122@reddit
Only people who can wear socks and sandals are geography teachers, the elderly, utter dorks and Germans
brak-0666@reddit
I don't understand how people can walk around like this and not feel deeply ashamed.
spinereader81@reddit
I loathe seeing people's feet, so I'm happy when people add socks. Even though it's not the most attractive look.

Mr8BitX@reddit
That’s exactly what a German tourist would say.
JamesMattDillon@reddit
Cold-Monk5436@reddit
I don't like sandals. They look dorky with socks and also I don't like feet.
Kimberlylynn2003@reddit
Okay listen- I wore some socks the other day and slid my sandals on to run to the mail box.. I didn’t hate it.
Rosserman@reddit
You be you dude.
AlwaysSleepingBeauty@reddit
I still it’s a terrible look but everybody wearing socks and slides don’t seem to care.
C1sko@reddit
It’s still not okay.
MinivanPops@reddit
I like it when my teenagers do it, because at least I know they won't be having sex
Weekly-Bill-1354@reddit
The problem with that theory is that it's the trend with teenagers so they all think its [whatever slang is used for cool]
_MistyDawn@reddit
Optimist.
GABigBear@reddit
It always was, is, and forever shall be dorky.
PeterPunksNip@reddit
Automatic-Nature6025@reddit
My teenage son insists upon it. He's ruined so many white socks that way. He also wants to wear shorts when it's freezing outside, hoodies when it's hot, and wears sweatpants like I wear jeans. All things I would have made fun of others for doing when I was his age. I had to crack down on the ruining of socks, the rest I have to accept as my kid assimilating to his kind, his people, his tribe.
tatanutz@reddit
Still dorky but zero f's to give is a good look.
taxilicious@reddit
This was never cool.
ZagiFlyer@reddit
Still dorky-looking. If it's too cold for sandals then wear closed shoes.

No. It’s hideously ugly.
HourCoat2766@reddit
No, FOD
Ok_Habit6837@reddit
Not only is it cool, the Gen Z I know think exposed bare feet in sandals are actively gross.
Mr402TheSouthSioux@reddit
It's cool based on season. So fall/ winter and early spring its fine.
mind_yer_heid@reddit
Depends on your feet. If ya got nasty toes, wear socks!
thisistherevolt@reddit
Still is. But just be dorky. We're too old to care now.
Jasion128@reddit

No. It wasn't OK then, it's isn't OK now.
This goes for jean shorts, tucked in t-shirts, long woven belts tied in a knot, and upside down / backwards visors.
Notchersfireroad@reddit
I've never done it but have always wished it was socially acceptable. (I type as I realize I'm wearing socks and sandals right now). Ok I meant I've never gone out in public with them.
FalseQuestion7864@reddit
I guess you guys were too young to remember the mid 90s... and there was a short time when it was cool to rock that look. I had some $100 Nike sandals that were that style, and I wore socks like that with them. Probably 1993-95 for me. By the time Reefs came around... 1998 or so... I had already abandoned the socks... and the $100 dollar Nikes! Reefs were like $30, and better, IMHO.
Snts6678@reddit
Wear what you like. Don’t wait for it to be “okay”.
MuffinMatrix@reddit
I dont think it ever was cool, nor ever will be cool. Its so hideous looking. I never understood it.... socks are to protect your feet in enclosed shoes, sandals are to not need socks. So it defeats both purposes.
HuckleberryLogical63@reddit
I don't like the feeling of my bare feet on the material most sandals are made of, socks are comfy. So, socks with sandals.
MuffinMatrix@reddit
Yeah thats weird. Good sandals are very comfy. They have an almost suede bottom. So if you need socks to not be barefoot.. wear shoes! Why sandals than? I just don't understand what advantage that offers. Sandals are so you CAN be barefoot, socks negate that.
s0_spoiled@reddit
It still is.
Haunting_Name6188@reddit
I’ve never given a crap. If I want to wear socks and birks.. then will. Who cares. Also. If my feet are wet or sweaty. My sandals get squeaky and slippery. Who wants that?
TheRealGageEndal@reddit
If you're still too young to care what other people think, then it's super dorky.

PhysicsStock2247@reddit
I teach college students and it’s funny to me that they mostly wear things that would have been considered “dorky” back in our day. Sweatpants and matching jogger sets are very prominent these days, as well as slides with socks. I almost never see students wearing jeans anymore.
majoretminordomus@reddit
No, Never. Nein, auf keinen Fall. Pas de chance.
vbones82@reddit

Stang1776@reddit
It was always dumb but if people wanted to wear sandals in school they needed to wear socks. I bet that is where the dumb fad came from honestly. Youngsters got used to it and the sandles were probably more comfortable.
kozynook@reddit
Sandals, and in my case Crocs, are the easiest footwear I own to slip on.
No bending over. Just slide feet in.
If it's a bit colder outside I'll do it with socks on.
If some people want to act like the fashion police and laugh at it. Let them have their fun.
I'm sure if I wanted to I can easily find something about them to make fun of and laugh at.
pncoecomm@reddit

Birkenstocks were bad but wearing tevas with socks was/still is the end of the line for one's 'coolness'
Strictly speaking to the shoe/sock combo and it's fashions hierarchy or lack there of, objectively as I can recall the sentiments of a bygone era.
LQNova@reddit

Dorky looking is a matter of preference. The real issue is younger generations thinking people are actually “stealing” their feet pics and making weird “purity” and “clean aesthetic” rules about feet.

I was gifted a pair and thought, I'd try them out how bad could they be? I wore them once to the mailbox and decided I hadnt gave up on life enough to wear them. Also that toe box just sucks.
tultommy@reddit
I tried not to be. i went to the damn crocs store and tried some on because everyone was going on and on about how comfortable they were. They were all lying through their teeth. Nothing like walking on 1000's a rubber studs biting you in the feet... awful things. I hope the company goes bankrupt lol.
HuckleberryLogical63@reddit
Wife makes fun of me for it, if I don't care what she thinks about it, I'm not gonna care what anyone else thinks about it lol.

Gen-Z is wearing socks and sandals.
General-Reserve9349@reddit
I enjoy it
Enough-Persimmon3921@reddit
I wear socks with anything because I don't want my feet to stink to high heaven. Unless I will be wearing them at a water park, then no socks for obvious reasons. Idgaf what others think. I've been with the same woman for 25 years and don't need to impress anyone.
No_Proposal7812@reddit
I can't do it. My teen son begs to differ. He wears socks with slides basically every day. I cringe inside when I see it
BasvanS@reddit
I hate to be the old man yelling at the cloud, but young people are fucking dorks. I already thought so because of the mustache thing. This only confirms it.
spitfiremk14@reddit
I still look down on people who do that
mister_burns1@reddit
One of the worst fashion fouls of all times.
Fewer things scream dorky loser more than socks with sandals.
UnicornTears@reddit
TIL I regularly commit a heinous fashion foul. 😆 I enthusiastically embrace my dorky loserdom and bask in the cozy comfort of my socked, sandaled feet
bgva@reddit
Same. I knew Reddit could be judgmental but not like this. I see it quite a bit where I live.

No. It's never okay.
Socks and shoes. Feet and sandals.
RjIvan52@reddit
Depends on the weather, if I wear socks with my sandals it's wool socks.
HolodeckMoriarty@reddit
I like wearing sandals becausethey are more comfortable, but my feet get too cold, so I also wear socks.
kateastrophic@reddit
I think with a lot of things, it can be ironically cool if you are young. If you are in this sub, you are too old for it to come off like irony.
akchahal@reddit
I've never cared. The fact that the perspective on things like this change and evolve to me signals most of the time I shouldn't care what others think or how my wardrobe is perceived.
Like as long as what I'm wearing isn't hateful towards others and reasonably appropriate for the occasion I really dgaf what others think is fashionable or not.
NovaForceElite@reddit
Right to jail.
avalonfaith@reddit
Absolutely not.
That doesn't mean I don't do it but it's really not a good look.

My high school cousins friends showed up to my grandfathers funeral in sweatpants and shorts with socks and slides …. These kids disgust me.

Crocs and socks are part of my home attire. Less holes appear in my socks, and during the winter it keeps my tootsies warm.
Flimsy_Equal8841@reddit
No.
profDougla@reddit
Someone once said “u would think socks and crocs go together, but no.”
PhillNewcomer@reddit
I have a picture of me the summer of '99 before boot camp with me wearing sock with sandles just like this.
And got made fun of by my friend group a few years ago. I was 18 at the time and didn't know better nor cared as much about fashion
It still looks stupid and I've changed alot
blauerschnee@reddit
If you're trying to cozy up to Gen Z, then yeah, it's totally fine 👌

Hey! We like our feet to be airy outside. We don't like our bare feet touching the floor when we come in, and we're not going to keep taking them off and putting them back on.
True comfort comes when you stop caring how you look at home and casually out and about.
RevolutionaryBake362@reddit
New balances are “in” grandpa look is in. Short shorts, long socks, etc. I have 4 kids 13-20 I see it all.
Red-Oak-Tree@reddit
As an xennial you should be at the point where you don't care what people think about your appearance.

Man look. I live in California close to the ocean. It's cold as balls here sometimes. But I like my open toe crocs when I'm just boppin' around. So I put on some low rise socks and keep it moving. I am also married, so I doubly dgaf haha

MetricJester@reddit
Gotta use the Roots Woolies socks to get it right.
mystiqueallie@reddit
It’s really popular in my area (western Canada) and it makes me irrationally angry to see socks and sandals together. I think it looks terrible.
Paquistino@reddit
I find a lot of things we found dorky or uncool came back as fashion over the years. I remember when thick framed glasses meant you were a nerd. Suspenders were Urkel territory and then came and went out of vogue in the early 2010s. Cardigans and Argyle. Waistlines are going back up now too. It's all cyclical.
kaest@reddit
Those socks aren't high enough though. Yeah, I still think it makes you look like a grandpa. But apparently what screams grandpa to the kids these days is ankle socks. 🤷😂
Jets237@reddit
I think it's illegal to show an ankle now.. so makes sense
jcstrat@reddit
I don’t really care what other people do. Practically speaking, if you’re wearing sandals you shouldn’t be wearing socks. That just doesn’t make sense.
On a related note; Crocs, on the other hand, I will silently judge you if I see you wearing them in public anywhere that’s not a pool or water park related.

It's extremely dorky. And you picked the exact sandal brand needed to illustrate this perfectly.

Maybe not those super bright white gym socks, but I see people with wool socks and sandals. It's marginally less dorky
Rabble_rouser412@reddit
Everything this new generation is doing with socks is downright fugly! The high socks pulled up your calves, the scrunched down thick socks over your sneakers, socks with sandals, socks with slides and crocs. Make it stop! 🛑

After seeing some of the horribly terrible fashion mistakes from the 80s that Gen Alpha is bringing back in style, I don't think there is anything that can be considered uncool at this point.
JayRay_44@reddit
I am wearing socks with slides right now. HATERS GONNA HATE… 😂
aspect-of-the-badger@reddit
I always wears socks with my sandals. If I don't I get a sunburn ony feet and that sucks.
ProfessorxVile@reddit
I've heard two explanations for it, and I'm sure they're both accurate to some degree. One is that they are rejecting the ankle/minimal socks look of the previous generation by going out of their way to show them off. Another has to do with not wanting to expose their feet because of all the creepers with smart phones (who weren't really an issue when we were that age).
IvenaDarcy@reddit
I have never and will never think these sandals looks good with or without socks. Just bottom the barrel style choice. Only types I’ve ever seen where them are hippies and older hiker/camper type. If you fall into that category go for it but otherwise why not pick a million different looks?
If you want to stay in this realm those slip on closed toe Birkenstocks (like a mule) look 100x better than these Jesus sandals.
Over40fitnezz@reddit

TappyMauvendaise@reddit
It’ll be woman repellent for straight men. Wear accordingly.
edasto42@reddit

My teen refuses to wear sandals without socks to high school so I guess it’s cool? Especially with Birkenstocks.
StevieV61080@reddit
As a kid, I used to always wear knee-high grey socks with colored stripes at the top while also wearing neon-green aqua socks. I played baseball in those, went out to dinner in those, and went to school in those.
Socks and sandals are classy compared to my fashion sense from back in the day.
LostLetter9425@reddit
Socks with Teva, just why? Socks with slides at the airport, acceptable.

TappyMauvendaise@reddit
I think the world has embraced nerd culture or fuddy-duddy culture which is good.
Kind of gives us permission not to give such a sh-t about what anyone thinks about what we’re wearing.
However, I live in the Pacific Northwest where we have the least fashion of anywhere.
If I were in Miami or New York, I would probably think much differently.

It IS dorky looking. My teen girl even wears crew socks with dress shoes.
I can’t figure out if it’s the style (other girls were doing it too) or they were all clueless and had busy moms who didn’t catch it to help in time.
I’m mixed on it. I don’t want her to be a slave to fashion. I do want her to be comfortable and healthy. And it does look ridiculous and potentially messes how the shoes fit her foot. I wish Gen Z would explain this to us.
ronin_cse@reddit
It was always cool as long as you had the IDGAF mindset. My favorite was wearing socks with flipflops.

It will always look dorky, but it is also cool for the teenager set. Kind of like the pack of cigarettes rolled up in the shirtsleeve: looked dumb as shit, but man you were cool if you did it.
elkniodaphs@reddit
It would be a pretty boss move to walk up on some scrubs at the lunch table with that noticeable bump in your sleeve, then bust it out so all those fools can see your Magic the Gathering tempo deck you had rolled up in there.

In the house? Sure. Not in public
Congregator@reddit
No, under no circumstances is this cool.
This is something both grandfathers and dads who have no need to attract women do to protect their toes and provide an added layer of comfort while avoiding the blisters that commonly occur during common sandal wearing.

Its still dorky and I assume people are trying to cover up their nasty feet which I guess is fine. No way am I getting my socks dirty like that though. Today it seems kids dont care about that sort of thing which I guess is cool, I'm trying not to judge even though I think it looks dumb personally. I'm not going to tell them how dumb I think it looks.

The fact that people even where these sandals in the first place is awful. Then to add in socks.

succubus6984@reddit
I wear socks when my feet are cold or in any kind of footwear because my feet sweat terribly. Have you ever slipped inside of your footwear and fell? 😒 idk how thats even possible 😐 but Ive done it. Slipped so hard i crammed my toes into the front of my shoe, twisted my ankle, and landed on my back. 😒🤣🤣

Dorky AF. Also a hard no on every single job I’ve ever worked. Even the indoor office jobs.
Now I spend a lot of time on my hands, knees and toes crawling around, the thought of dirt and muck getting all over my socks, and my toes exposed, even in socks, hard pass.
Separate-Relative-83@reddit

Longjumping-Bell-762@reddit
I do it now when it’s too cold for sandals, but I feel too lazy to lace up shoes just to run errands. Every time I leave the house with socks and sandals my inner teen cringes a bit.
