Plot twist, this is all a simulation, like when Obrien spent 20 years in prison that one day. We're all learning how shitty the early 20th century was, and how it got this bad. Then once we're done learning the lesson, we wake up in the late 24th century as federation high school graduates.
Right, well, what Picard played in that episode bears no resemblance to a flute. It is/was likely a recorder of some kind. There are many kinds and sizes of recorders.
My buddy is adamant that he spent a lifetime in a geometric shape filled universe while on a 5 minute salvia induced trip. When he tells someone the story I like to point out that he didn’t even learn how to play a little flute.

What's it like to live in a world that denies the existence of sarcasm?

Well ya see, he didnt put a /s on his post, so i didnt think i needed to put a /s on my post.
Lesson learned?
Leopold_Darkworth@reddit
I think it was called “There Are Four Inner Lights”
Punner-the-Gr8@reddit
Love this. I worry that, instead of a flute, the pod contains a keytar.
_frank_tank@reddit
Does this mean we all wake up soon?

Uh … everyone else on Katan didn’t have such a great time after the launch …

Well, yeah, that’s also true.

God, let's hope so

God, I love this episode.

That ending when he plays the flute ALWAYS tugs at my heart strings..
RecognitionSweet8294@reddit
Yeah it’s a true masterpiece.
I also love that he occasionally plays the flute in later episodes.
tillman_b@reddit
Well that got depressing real fast.

Oh please let the sun explode now ....

Artemis can be rearranged to spell “maestri” which means multiple maestros, meaning the rocket must be packed to the gills with flutes.

I don't know what is more an depressing idea. We are all about to die! Or Captain Picard will have to live through 2025 and 2026!!😕

That episode where Picard smoked salvia
