I bought a GT350R from CarMax with their warranty

as like probably every other car enthusiast, i've always wanted to own, or at least drive, a GT350R since they came out. especially after Doug's video in 2016 when he drove one and just seemed so genuinely thrilled and impressed by it.
the main thing that drove me away from them, especially these days, is the explodey engines being out of warranty.
anyways, sometimes i like to browse a certain dealers site that is famous for their bumper to bumper warranty to see if they have any funky cars you wouldn't expect (i don't want to name the site a second time because i don't want to be accused of advertising for them).
shockingly enough, they had 1 of like 10 2016 350Rs for sale under 7k miles in the country. i took a few days to really decide if i needed it, 1. because it was across the country and cost $2k to ship to florida, 2. because 2026 is the year i'm supposed to slim down my collection in favor of a murci sv, not keep buying more cars lol.
anyways, tale as old as time, i paid the 2k to ship it then spent 2 weeks wondering what kind of piece of shit i just paid to ship here. it was priced like $10-15k under what the other 9ish on the market were, so my main concern was that the carbon fiber wheels were going to be beat to death but to my surprise the only thing wrong with the car is some paint swirls and it lost a bumper clip somewhere along the way during transport, but the store manager was kind enough to refund my shipping fee to make up for it and they threw in a discounted famous btb warranty.
i picked it up yesterday and it is so. much. fun.
i'm not sure how it's possible, but it's more rowdy than my gt500 and it sounds better too. the 6spd tremec is hilariously fun to bang around, and for as big as the gt500 and other mustang variants feel when you're driving them, the 350R feels surprisingly small. the steering is *almost* as precise as my 4RS but tbh i never expect any car to dethrone it.
i'm super rough on my cars and i almost feel bad for how i'm going to treat this car since it seems like such a collectors piece, especially with the way values are going, but figured now's the time.
i know someone in the comments is going to inevitably ask this, so here's my updated list of how fun each car i have is, in order:
- GT4 RS (again, will never be dethroned)
- Cayman R
- GT350R (also again, i've only owned it 24 hours so might not be fair placement)
- GT500 (i think i've always had the 500 as spot #3)
- 992 Carrera T
- GT4
- R8
- M4 Comp. xDrive
- C8 Z06
- GTR
- Shelby Super Snake F150
- Shelby Super Baja F250
- F250 Tremor
- Sequioa TRD Pro

I tried to buy one when the gt350r came out. Asked salesman about buying one, and 1st thing out of his mouth, want $10K over list! His attitude was terrible, so I called him an a-hole and walked out!
enraged_and_engorged@reddit
I have a 2020. I am on
The car was out of service over 30 days the 1st year I had it, qualifying for Lemon status. Ford themselves got to eat it on the powertrain stuff, plus I bought a 3rd party extended thing for 8years/80k miles for $2500. One repair can easily cover that: the starter plus overlay during "alternator saga #2" was $3300. Plus I've had months of rentals.
Car has ~40k miles.
I have however gone through 3 sets of rears and two sets of fronts of Cup 2s in 8k miles at $500/tire in 1 year and seen it well into 5th.
I'm buying a CT-5 Blackwing. But keeping this.
Kitchen-Lab9028@reddit
Any issues with the 3rd party warranty?
enraged_and_engorged@reddit
Amazingly, no. I told my Ford service advisor guy "the paperwork's in the glovebox" when I first had to make use of it, he said he knew what to do, and I haven't really heard anything since then. I presume everyone's on a first name basis, by now.
dreaminphp@reddit (OP)
Holy shit lmao
Kitchen-Lab9028@reddit
Was this the one that was for sale for $70k? It was available for a long long time but I decided against it because it seems overpriced compared to what I could get on BaT/CaB.
I'm still on the hunt on CM though for that warranty!
Hnry_Dvd_Thr_Awy@reddit
I'm sure you've answered this before but what do you do for work? I had a single $100k car that I sold this year because it was too fast for me and thought it was kinda ridiculous to spend that much on a car. But then I see people like you with like 8-10. lol

Top-Mammoth-6960@reddit
Damn that's quite a collection you got there! The GT350R is such a beast, I remember watching that Doug video too and being completely sold in the car just from his reaction.
Really smart move going with CarMax warranty on something like this - those Voodoo engines are absolute monsters when they work but yeah, the potential issues always made me nervous about getting one without coverage. 2k shipping cost is pretty reasonable considering you basically got a steal compared to market prices, and getting the shipping refunded makes it even better.
That ranking list is wild though, I'm surprised the C8 Z06 is so low considering all the hype around it. But I guess when you have a GT4 RS as reference point, everything else probably feels different. The fact you're planning to slim down for a Murci SV in 2026... man, that's going to be one hell of upgrade. Those things are getting stupid expensive but absolutely worth it if you can swing it.
dreaminphp@reddit (OP)
i actually really enjoy the z06, and maybe i'm being unjust towards it, but every aspect of the interior of it completely hampers my ability to really love it lol
Sufficient_Bid7075@reddit
Absolutely agreed there. Man, I hated that steering wheel so much.
dreaminphp@reddit (OP)
the steering wheel, the visibility, the wall of buttons, the annoyingly angled screen, the 500 pieces of plastic going in separate directions on the dash, i could go on and on lol
bc10551@reddit
Would the facelift interior fix a good bit of that for you + an aftermarket wheel? Visibility I guess you'd need wide angle side mirrors or to rely on the rear view digital mirror?
ZannX@reddit
I replaced the steering wheel with a round one. If you have this kind of money - just do it.
LxBru@reddit
What about the driving experience? I don’t think the interior detracted from the fun aspect but I do get the complaint. When I drove a friend’s z06 I kinda forgot about the wall of buttons and the rest of that once I heard the engine.
dreaminphp@reddit (OP)
driving experience itself is great for the most part! sound and maneuverability are top tier and the DCT is mostly great, probably like a 7.5/10. if it was my only car i'd be very happy with it, but with everything else i have it's just not something i usually reach for the keys for

When I worked for Carmax I ended up purchasing a ‘12 GTCS with the warranty. I had it for about 1.5 months and it blew the number 7 rod bearing sheer through the oilpan. I paid 50 dollars for them to install a 2013 5.0 into it, granted they sent it to another dealer to have to have the work done and it took about 2 months to get it back. I Always recommend getting the warranty when purchasing from these companies, I worked in the parts department and saw how things were ran behind all the scenes. Most of the time parts are purchased from the dealer but it’s not uncommon for parts to be purchased from companies like LKQ.

dreaminphp@reddit (OP)
Yea they’re all stock, aside from my R8. The M4 is just way more focused and planted than the Z06 and GTR. Plus it’s acceleration is quick enough to make anyone nauseous lol
dustygator@reddit
I'm curious if you've had experience with E9x M3 or B7/8 RS4/RS5. Those are the closest comparables I can think of in terms of high-revving NA V8 in a daily-able format.
I have to imagine the extra 10+ years ages the interior of the Germans (even if they were originally a class above a Mustang in terms of luxury) and probably the performance significantly as well. But in terms of drama and noise, I imagine they are probably pretty close.

theknyte@reddit
Most rich people try to stay rich by being frugal on many things.
Not everyone, but most of the richest people I've met are also the worse tippers, want to haggle on everything, and want special deals and treatment for being "important".
SirLoremIpsum@reddit
That's the thing though - it's faux frugality. It's an act, a fiction.
"I spent $150,000 on a car but saved $2000 on shipping. I am being frugal" is just an act, it is not really genuinely being frugal. It is being cheap.
No one became a multi-millionaire because they tip 2% instead of 15% on every day purchases, that's not a "savings tip to make your fortune".
That's being cheap, a miser. Not being frugal.

You're making me want a GT350R haha this sounds so wicked
Sorry, this is a huge tangent but...
Your ranking of the R8 is something I mirror. A lot of people are surprised when I say the R8 is often my 2nd or 3rd choice if I want to just "go for a drive" but it (and Huracans/Gallardos) are cars that fit a kind of weird niche if you're really into cars.
The sound is phenomenal, it's got such an incredible motor in it, and it's quite comfortable. But in a strange way, it's also the thing that holds it back. The V10 is so high strung that if you're not on it constantly, it can feel a bit unhappy when you're just cruising around. It always just wants to be at 10/10ths and be rev'd out super high. On the street, the R8 drives like a normal car unless you're willing to break the law a little bit.
My Emira is the equivalent to your GT4 RS in my garage. It's a car that will never be de-throned for me, I absolutely adore everything about it, AND I can enjoy what makes it so fun on the street.
Sorry for the ramble unrelated to the GT350R but your ranking just got me thinking haha

How does the warranty work have you had experience with it
USCGTO@reddit
I have had CarMax warranty cover my 7 series. It was seamless. Always went to the BMw dealer and the deductible was $50. Dealer took care of everything. The CarMax warranty was good and cheaper than any/most other options I could have bought.
The 7 series was still in factory warranty when I bought it from CarMax and BMW dealer offered me 2 or so year extension for $9500.
CarMax offered me 5 year 125,000 mile ( car was at 27k miles) warranty for $5500. No brained and it paid for itself.
CarMax warranty is good.
Industrial_Muffin@reddit
Which Maxcare plan did you choose to get a $50 deductible?
PaulClarkLoadletter@reddit
It’s not what it used to be. Doug kind of killed it with his Land Rover “hack.” Buy a nice car that depreciates profoundly due to its habit of breaking down and get a relatively cheap bumper to bumper warranty that will pay for itself within the first year and you’ve got a working Land Rover on the cheap.
Now there are maintenance expectations for owners and way more strings.
willpc14@reddit
Is it still worth buying cars that could have potentially catastrophic failure from CarMax? I've been thinking of buying a V8 F-Type from them.
_galaga_@reddit
In my experience, no, Doug did kill the “bumper to bumper” days and it’s not worth it to buy from CarMax for a perceived warranty advantage. Get a third party warranty from folks on the brand forums that have had a good experience, imo.
PaulClarkLoadletter@reddit
CM may not cover full cost. Payouts for high risk vehicles like Land Rover and Jaguar have been reduced and now they will only cover up to the purchase price of the vehicle. This is a cumulative total so if you buy an F Type for $42k and need an engine replacement in the first year to the tune of $25k that means you only have $17k left on your repair bills. Being that it's a Jag you could burn up the rest of it on a transmission and a ECM replacement.
This might still be worth it but it's a gamble.
biciklanto@reddit
Disagree. I have my MaxCare warranty through Fidelity as their Platinum-level exclusions-based warranty and it's been fully flawless on my Porsche.
whyarchitecture@reddit
It's run through a 3rd party insurance company. You call them (the number is under your carmax profile) and they give you a handful of carmax registered shops in your area. You pick one, they diagnose the car and tell carmax and carmax then determines if this is something they'll cover.
Had to use it on my Mazda3, had 35k miles and my right rear wheel bearing went out. Covered it with no issue.
Fundabz@reddit
I believe it will be either Fidelity, CNA, or Assurant. They are who facilitates for CarMax. All good though.
dreaminphp@reddit (OP)
i have never purchased from them before but have heard good things about it
biciklanto@reddit
If you got Fidelity as a service, you got the best used car warranty out there. Even Fidelity has told me that their CarMax MaxCare beats out their Fidelity Platinum slightly in terms of a tiny list of exclusions.
Mine paid for itself many times over on my Macan, and neither Indies nor my Porsche dealer ever had any issues or anything denied. And both raved about how Fidelity is to work with.
dreaminphp@reddit (OP)
glad to hear that!
SpanishHeat@reddit
Not CarMax per say but I’ve had good experience with Carvanas warranty.
Had an engine replacement on a WRX STI that I had purchased from them. They cheaped out and got a used engine with less miles but I didn’t pay anything for it.
Had a PPI done on a vehicle I bought from them early this year. They took care of issues identified then without paying out of pocket.
Later the TPMS sensors went out on that car and Carvana covered those.
Heard similar things about the CarMax warranty and they use OEM parts. I was at a CarMax a few weeks ago and I overheard them talking about a customers BMW needing repairs and that they were getting the parts from a local BMW dealer.
stealthybutthole@reddit
Carvana is great. I wouldn't hesitate to buy any vehicle from them, as long as the Carfax showed it as coming from a state that doesn't salt the roads or any other questionable history.
I bought a Silverado High Country with the 6.2 and 8 speed. Truck showed up, I drove it straight to the dealership, it had a shudder and had some valvetrain noise. Dealership diagnosed it as needing a new torque converter and new engine (6.2 life).
Carvana's "executive resolution team" contacted me and advised the cost of repairs would be >75% of the vehicle price, and offered to either approve the repairs, or let me choose a different vehicle and give me free shipping and a $2000 discount. Didn't pay for the extended warranty btw, this was just the normal 100 day warranty all Carvana vehicles come with.
I told them I'd see what was available and get back to them. Found a F150 King Ranch I liked, they unwound the deal, I used the $2000 discount to buy the extended warranty on the F150. Truck showed up, was in essentially perfect condition cosmetically, driver side seat belt retracted kinda slow, had a minor exhaust leak at the catalytic converter flange, slightly delayed shift from 7-8, and a small amount of cam phaser noise at startup. Took it to dealership, they opened a claim with Carvana for new cam phasers, new transmission, driver side seatbelt replacement, and catalytic converter replacement--$18,000 in repairs on a $35k truck. Carvana approved the claim immediately and I haven't had to use the warranty since.
If you buy a car from Carvana, take it to a mechanic day 1 and get EVERY ISSUE (no matter how small) documented, because that free 100 day warranty is SOLID GOLD.

stealthybutthole@reddit
The F150 is a 2018 (still going strong, one of the only vehicles I have zero regrets about purchasing) and I want to say the Silverado was a 2017 but it may have been a 2018. I was very aware of the risks of both the trucks and their respective engines/transmissions going into it, but I'd heard so many good things about the 100 day warranty and the absurd trade in value they were offering for my Tacoma that I was willing to give it a shot vs buying something locally.
gropingpriest@reddit
You can't get a Carvana warranty on the GT350 or just about any of the high risk/high reward sports car types.
If you scroll down on a car on Carvana, you can see if it qualifies for their CarvanaCare. E.g. on this one if you scroll all the way down until you see "Affordable Protection" you'd see it listed (it's not for this car).
Even newer cars aren't eligible, e.g. a 2022+ BMW M3 you won't see an option for CarvanaCare. It's a shame

What makes a collector is the number of units produced. That’s probably the most important factor. For example, the e30 m3 increased in value because not many were sold. When it came out it was the only car of its kind. A beefed up coupe. So not a lot of cars were made. That increased in value. The one car I think could be a collector is the new z. It didn’t sell well at all, and they just moved production to being built to order. I can’t think of current cars outside of specialty limited production cars that can turn into collectors.

Why don’t you like the R8 as much as the GT350? I had a GT350 and loved it (sold it for the potential engine issues) and may get an R8 next so curious your thoughts
dreaminphp@reddit (OP)
its just kinda boring to drive. it goes fast and it sounds good but that's about all it does well. it handles like shit around corners and the rwd can be sketch sometimes but the dct is nice and again cant beat the v10 sound
pedroelbee@reddit
Do you have corners in Florida?
El_Pozzinator@reddit
Do intersections and off-ramps count? Those are the only ones we have in Louisiana… but our roads and drivers are so trash you might as well not bother having fun cars or motorcycles here.
pedroelbee@reddit
Yup, traffic circles count too!
MAUSECOP@reddit
Appreciate the color, assuming it’s a 2017+?
dreaminphp@reddit (OP)
yes its 2023
Arianhrod_Begin@reddit
Enjoy the car, man! They are so much fun to drive. A word of caution however, they tend to cause an infectious ear to ear grin issue. :P
iac74205@reddit
Seconded. Put those miles on.
Nero_Wolff@reddit
I tell everyone, its the best car under 100k. Non Rs are especially a good deal as the experience is extremely close
Droopy1592@reddit
I have a 350. Think the reg GT4 is worth the money on the experience list? Nothing tops my 350 (got doctor friends with Ferraris, lambos and mclarens) but I did love driving the GT4RS at the xtreme xperience here in Atlanta. I can’t afford one though… I can but I’m not spending that much on a car. You have the GT4 much further down, so wondering if the experience is down significantly from the RS and GT350? Anything else I should target?
dreaminphp@reddit (OP)
I highly highly highly recommend a GT4 at some point. Especially a 981 with the 6spd and buckets if you can find one. The nice thing about them is even if you buy it and hate it you’ll never lose money selling it lol
Droopy1592@reddit
Good point
ghlibisk@reddit
Off topic: Do you think the GT4RS could be dethroned by the Spyder RS?
dreaminphp@reddit (OP)
No, mostly because the top is a pain in the dick
Sweetwhitecamry@reddit
Had any previous experience with a C7 Z06?
I drove a GT350 for a short test one day and it eas insanely fun revving up that motor. And the 4RS still remains the best car I've ever driven.
Noobasdfjkl@reddit
What do you want to know about C7 Z06?
Sweetwhitecamry@reddit
Curious how it would stack up with his current line up if he had driven one.
I own a 19 M7 Z06
dreaminphp@reddit (OP)
unfortunately i have never driven a c7. i dont think ive driven any corvette generation aside from the c8 actually
Weird_Tower76@reddit
Hell yeah glad the my Z06 made your list lol, that's quite the roster you have put together
JimEdF@reddit
Thank you for posting a happy adventure! Especially from a fellow car nut. You clearly have excellent taste and the resources to enable it. Thank you!!
LakeEffect_CarHunter@reddit
I would have the Shelby lower.
But you have a very cool list.. I'm basing my info off of doing pre purchase inspections and lease trade in Inspections. The gt4 rs I have not had the pleasure of sitting in. Very jelly lol.
Z32anxiety@reddit
How much was the warranty?
GermanCommentGamer@reddit
That's very rude of you to post this the exact moment I try to convince myself that I shouldn't spend the money on a GT350! Thanks for the write-up... here I go looking at listings again.
gdnws@reddit
The s550 is easily the best looking Mustang on this side of the 2000's and reliability be damned, an 8000+ rpm v8 has got to be fun one way or another.
Droopy1592@reddit
The GT350 is the best looking of the S550s. It’s basically bespoke from the firewall forward. The entire front end is 40 or so mm lower than the other mustangs. It looks better from every angle than any other Mustang. I honestly believe it is the best looking Mustang ever.
gdnws@reddit
Off the top of my head, I can't say I would disagree that it is the best looking Mustang ever although I also won't say that I am the most familiar with Mustangs in general.
tnolan182@reddit
Op what are your thoughts on the rs3? In that top 14 list
tacosforlife455@reddit
CarMax warranty is amazing for the money OP… enjoy the heck out of the car!
Reprised-role@reddit
So YOU’RE the SOB who reserved and shipped that one out of Los Angeles area IIRC.
I had my eye on that GT350 specifically because it was an R, low mileage, was close by, and could throw that warranty on top. By the time I decided to go for it, it went reserved. Nice $70k snipe!!
dreaminphp@reddit (OP)
lmao sorry!!!
Reprised-role@reddit
Curses!!!
I kinda hope you never need that warranty, and also hope you need it like once a week… I’m conflicted.
Enjoy the ride.
Ok-Necessary-4406@reddit
I bought a GT350 (non R) new back in 2016. The engine blew at like 1100 miles, Ford refused to provide a loaner car while it was in the shop for over 60 days awaiting them to get a new engine, and Ford was absolutely terrible to deal with the whole time (they, for example, sent three non flatbeds to tow it even though the manual prohibits it and I explicitly told them on the phone ever time; the dealer cracked the bumper cover and then claimed it was like that when I dropped it off).
It was the worst experience I have ever had with a car, but at least I was able to sell it immediately after it got repaired. Fuck Ford forever.
I bought a new 981 Boxster Spyder afterward, and that was the best experience I had with a car.
I hope you have better luck than I did, but I hate these cars, and I hate Ford!
Swagsturbate@reddit
Curious to hear why you have your GTR so low in your ranking.
lethal_defrag@reddit
PJ that you?
SergeantBacon101@reddit
GT350 is high up there on my list of favorite cars I’ve driven, and the GT4RS tops that list. I guess I like high revving track focusing sports cars
Objective_Spring_682@reddit
i think a GT350R is a pretty cool car in my book. i have one personally as a hot wheels
imped4now@reddit
Early Voodoo....bold move, sir. Bold move. I look forward to an update.
isomorphZeta@reddit
The GT350R is such an underappreciated car. Enjoy!
mark-6@reddit
Interesting that you have the cayman r above the gt4. What makes the difference to you?
dreaminphp@reddit (OP)
it feels lighter and smaller, it corners better, its more rare, and its more analog. its a dinosaur in 2026 but thats kinda why i love it
SinistralGuy@reddit
Incredibly jealous of this collection holy. Only driven the R8 and C8 Z06 off this list but it's different when you own it vs. driving someone else's (I'm a lot nicer to cars that aren't mine). Hope you're loving the 350R and it serves you well :)
efficiency_deficit@reddit
I had to check if this was Daddy Doug posting from 2016 haha Congrats bud!
sunqiller@reddit
I'm surprised someone with 14-car money is worried about a warranty
DodgerBlueRobert1@reddit
Quite possibly the best sounding car I've ever had the experience being in. About 4 years ago, I had the pleasure of being a passenger in my brother's neighbor's GT350 for a 20 minute jaunt on the freeway and city streets. Absolutely nuts how good the flat plane crank V8 sounded at full wail. Congrats on your purchase! And just like one or two others have said here, it's easily the best looking Mustang Ford has made.
3MATX@reddit
I should never own a mustang. But I’ve looked at gt350s before and gotten close to convincing myself. That flat plane crank just sounds so good when I’ve heard them in the wild.
Shovell242@reddit
We have reached similar conclusions my friend. I've had my GT350R since new as a 2019.
i_ShotFirst@reddit
I have a GT350 and often say it’s a very rare “forever car” for me. If I could afford a GT4 RS, that would be the dream stable mate for my Mustang. Glad to hear you love it them both!
dreaminphp@reddit (OP)
i think if i had to shorten my current collection to only 2 (aside from a truck and suv), i'd probably keep the 4rs and 350r as well
tharussianphil@reddit
I keep looking at the non-Rs on carmax but they dont fit in my garage 😭
Useful-ldiot@reddit
I remember seeing this forever ago, and I can't remember if Doug said it or maybe it was an offshoot from top gear, but one of those two said the warranty from CarMax is perfect for situations like this.
Buy that car you want with the flaky history and drive it without worry because the warranty is incredible and typically a good price.
Cali_Hapa_Dude@reddit
Congrats! The GT350 sounds so good and looks better than the 500. It’s too bad the gear ratios aren’t shorter to let you rev it out more at legal speeds.
I’d love to have a blue/white or white/blue stripes.
Sane-Philosopher@reddit
Dang, glad you had a good CarMax experience.
They sold me a B9 Audi RS5 that had been in a bad accident that was undisclosed, and the Audi tech who inspected it said the front tie rods were a hair away from coming apart while driving. CarMax did not make it right for me.
ace0702@reddit
Out of curiosity, what separates the GT4 RS and the GT4 so greatly in your mind?
dreaminphp@reddit (OP)
the sound! the 4rs has the gt3 motor and the air intakes are read behind your head. the gt4 still sounds good but you lose like 90% of the cabin noise which takes away some of the fun.
ByCromThatsAHotTake@reddit

I’ve purchased three cars from CarMax (Saturn, Stinger, Porsche 718), and two with the warranty.
Both warranties paid for themselves two-fold (Saturn + Porsche).
Total no brainer.
taticalgoose@reddit
Congrats u/dreaminphp - I bought a 2k mile '16 GT350 two years ago and absolutely love it. It gets driven more than anything else in my flair. How would you compare it to your C8 Z06? Your thoughts are highly relevant to me since I want a new Z06 bad although the fact that you have it rated so far below the 350 in fun factor says I might be disappointed.
To anyone wondering about warranties, when I bought my '16 in 2024 you could still get extended warranties for '16s through Ford so I got one for 5 years. They won't issue a new warranty on a '16 anymore but you can still get them for '19s and '20s, maybe '18s too.
dreaminphp@reddit (OP)
thank you! the z06 is love/hate with me. i love the sound, the experience, the cornering, the acceleration -- basically all of the driving dynamics. however, i physically hate driving it. nonstop blindspots, horrible center stack controls, and i can never find just the right seating position lol
taticalgoose@reddit
Agreed on the interior layout and seating position. I'm 6'5" and can fit in a 350 (with Recaros) but a C8 coupe is tight. I've heard the convertible is better but they really don't look as good so that's something I'd need to get over.
RallyLancer@reddit
After looking at your car list all I can do is wonder why finding one with a warranty would even matter to you
dreaminphp@reddit (OP)
because these motors are notorious for blowing and i dont want to pay half the cars value in an engine replacement
RallyLancer@reddit
No hate dude but if I had fuck you money I really wouldn't care about that lol
wtcnbrwndo4u@reddit
If I had fuck you money, I'd buy every warranty that came across my path. You are looking at it the absolute wrong way.
RallyLancer@reddit
Eh, I like wrenching way too much to have a shop work on my car. It's not like this will ever pertain to me anyway
hi_im_bored13@reddit
Woah a real Shelby Super Baja F250 owner
How do you like it?
dreaminphp@reddit (OP)
i love it lol. my only issue ive ever had with it is the motor for the tilting lightbar above the roof was designed in a way so that when you fully extend it the motor arm goes right through the rear window. ask me how i found that out lol
hi_im_bored13@reddit
Nice, it always a bit pricey for what it is but its own its own in diesel sport trucks so they can frankly charge what they'd like
dreaminphp@reddit (OP)
i like to think i got a fair deal on mine. i bought it in 2024 and it was a new leftover 2023. msrp was 160 and i paid 133k out the door
hi_im_bored13@reddit
Not bad, far less crazy of a premium
Yarpie_@reddit
I drove a 2019 GT350 a couple months ago and I think about it multiple times per day still. I want one so bad but the engine and A/C failures scare the shit out of me. I pretty much convinced myself that the Mach 1 is a better choice for me but it's just not the same thing at all IMO. I still wonder if a 19-20 GT350 is worth the risk or not.
Even with a warranty, it's still not ideal to get an engine replaced.
73629265@reddit
I don't have anything to add, but I am incredibly jealous of that collection.
Rush58@reddit
I’ll add my name to this list of jealous redditors
TowJammer212@reddit
Those companies move heaven and earth to deny warranty claims.
Midgetsdontfloat@reddit
Man, your car list is an absolute eclectic dream, I'm jealous.
I had the pleasure of spending a lot of time with a grabber blue '17 GT350 that a close friend owned and it absolutely stole my heart. I have no idea why there's a stereo or speakers in that car because the 5.2 with the valves open is all I'd ever want to listen to.
Such a charismatic, fun car to drive, and it wasn't particularly intimidating either. Easy clutch, easy, satisfying shifter, a bit tram-line-ey and darty off center but still sharp and didn't make me feel anything but confidence while driving it.
Did I mention how fucking good it sounds? 8250 rpm of "My brain is telling me to shift but I still have 2000 rpm to redline" goodness. My god.
He ended up trading it away after about a year, mostly due to reliability concerns. Thing was consuming a lot of oil and shaking itself apart, but man, I honestly believe it's the kind of car every enthusiast should get to drive once. So much personality. I can imagine the GT350R is all the regular GT350 was and more.
Ok_Two_2604@reddit
I had a 350 and an atom. 350 got old fast. Drivena free of the others plus a few Ferraris and such. Try a 3S or 3rs. I haven’t driven the 4.
nujabes02@reddit
How much was the warranty tho
dreaminphp@reddit (OP)
like $2500 for 6yr/60k miles
nujabes02@reddit
Damn that sounds pretty good . I just wonder if there’s any third party warrantys that match that quality and price. or if it’s truly locked into the car max ecosystem. Being priced 10k under market is a steal too
dreaminphp@reddit (OP)
from what i understand, i can take it to mostly any shop i want and CM will still pay everything after my deductible
zerosystem03@reddit
I remember reading on mustang forums (dont know how true it is) that Ford didnt even really question warranty claims on engine failures, they just knew they were bad. I saw a member was on a 3rd engine in a span of a few years. Carmax warranty will be well worth it. how long do you think you'll keep it?
dreaminphp@reddit (OP)
not sure, depends on how long it takes me to find the right murci lol
InvestingDoc@reddit
Love my 350R, it's so much fun to drive.
Stu__Pidasso@reddit
I actually got to test drive one of those from my local CarMax a few years ago in bright orange. That thing was a blast to drive. Enjoy it
