My only regret about buying the Maverick is not buying the IONIQ5 instead.
With our work forcing 5 day RTO the small price difference would've made it up very quickly, but alas here I am driving a Maverick (which I like) and regretting not getting the IONIQ5.
If I could find a place to trade it in in the Toronto area and not get killed on the deal...I'd consider a used IONIQ5.
dootytootybooty@reddit
At the very least Mavericks have held their values better than Ioniq’s. My Ioniq 5 SEL was overall a much better car than our Maverick Lariat but they both certainly had their strengths.
Realistically you should get good value back selling your Maverick and used ioniqs are selling for ridiculous prices. I see 2024 lease returns going in the mid low 20k range.
Top_Midnight_2225@reddit
I hope those prices stay for the CAD market. Our used car market is totally whack upside down right now.
Insanity is the only word I can use.
The IONIQ5 is too small for our family...but to replace my Maverick (if just a swap of keys) I can def be convinced as I love the Mav...but don't use the bed that much (still more than I expected).
thedrivingcat@reddit
I'm seeing $23-$27k for ones with 100k kilometres and $28-$30k for the more middle-level mileage ones.
Compared to a new stripped down 2026 RWD Model Y that's $45k... difficult decision.
dirkpitt45@reddit
Except Tesla vs not Tesla is an easy choice. Buying a Tesla now is embarrassing lol.
RepublicDizzy7306@reddit
I'm homeless and want to sleep in the back of vehicle. But I need to have some kind of climate control on half the year in the heat, even all night. I'm in a 2009 prius now and would like to get something that doesn't run engine every 5 minutes.
I need a new vehicle, got any suggestions whether it's new or a few years old?
Top_Midnight_2225@reddit
Thanks for that! I'll do some digging this weekend to see what's available.
I'm still not sure how I feel about Tesla (thanks Elon), but the Chevy Equinox, Bolt, Mach-E and IONIQ5 were all under consideration.
I was also interested in the KONA / SOUL EV but decided against them in the end.
thedrivingcat@reddit
Fair enough, I guess there's also the looming entry of BYD/Geely/others from the Chinese EV companies now to consider as well.
dootytootybooty@reddit
I’m surprised the Maverick fit your family but the Ioniq is too small. The Ioniq interior is much bigger than the Maverick and imo much more comfortable. Ofc if you’re factoring the bed then that changes the equation.
Top_Midnight_2225@reddit
Sorry maybe I wasn't clear. We considered the IONIQ5 as the minivan replacement, not the Maverick replacement.
The Maverick is in complement to the Odyssey. So the IONIQ5 would replace the Mav (or my previous GTI).
With kids, a dog, and the 10 times/year we take our mother in law with us...more space is needed than either the Mav or IONIQ5 can do.
We've already decided that there's no AFFORDABLE EV that we can replace the Odyssey with, so we'll keep to ICE (wife doesn't like the ID BUZZ) on the van side. Even the Sienna hybrid is stupidly expensive.
opeth10657@reddit
All EV's depreciate hard. Most of them you can get 1-2 years old with under 10k miles for half the price of a new one.
sponge_welder@reddit
I'm amazed by how little mavericks seem to depreciate, I guess it makes sense given their low price new. Around here a used one with maybe 60000mi is on sale for $20k, and new ones are $25-27k
Baron_Tiberius@reddit
Good thing about EVs is the value still drops like a stone so used deals are pretty good. Sold my sportswagen recently and it barely depreciated, but the price on my EV (2020 Ioniq) has basically plummeted. You can get a very decent EV for under 20k CAD if you're willing to go fore something 5 years old.
Top_Midnight_2225@reddit
Thanks! I figure even used ones will crank up in price now thanks to the oil price situation.
But I haven't tracked much of it yet.
Baron_Tiberius@reddit
judging by how people are driving in the GTA currently I don't think they've realized how expensive gas is yet.
Top_Midnight_2225@reddit
While I agree, and am someone that drives fairly quickly...you are correct.
For me, the rise from $1.46 -> $1.80 = $21/fill-up assuming a full tank to zero.
Since I never run past 1/4 left, the average fill-up = $17 * 5 = $85/month additional cost.
Not great, but not the end of the world.
What's going to get me, and everyone, is the additional cost increase for EVERYTHING that we buy.
And those costs won't be going down when fuel prices go down.
That's the part that worries me more than my monthly increase in driving cost.
Baron_Tiberius@reddit
Yeah I'm thankful that we went down to a single car and got the EV a few years back when dealers were desperate to get them off the lot (0% financing) so we're a little more sheltered on that end. Not going to enjoy the grocery prices this year.
wiscotangofoxtreat@reddit
What's funny is we were shopping for Mavericks and ended up not being able to get one and landed on a bolt. If you look at the bolt subs at the time many people faced the same thing. Really happy we ended up with full electrified though.
Top_Midnight_2225@reddit
100% Bolt was on my list also, and I test drove a bunch but felt it too small for our needs.
IONIQ5 is a touch bigger and good size, but the local Hyundai dealers were horrible to deal with (12% interest rate unless you buy a 5000$ extended warranty and they'll drop the 12% down to 8%).
Should revisit the new Bolt, but I'm not willing to add too much to my Maverick trade in value.
wiscotangofoxtreat@reddit
Damn I felt the bolt was roomier inside.
Top_Midnight_2225@reddit
Could be...but I recall the IONIQ5 being very spacious inside, and the trunk was MUCH larger than the Bolt.
I preferred the drive of the 2022 Bolt more than the 2022 IONIQ5 though. Felt the Bolt was much more connected to the road, whereas the IONIQ5 was more 'floaty' for lack of a better word.
I've also had both generations of the Volt and really enjoyed them. But the 2018 I had got too small for our family so traded it in on a GTI, and now the GTI to a Maverick.
_OUCHMYPENIS_@reddit
Rto really screwed a lot of people. We adjusted our lives to fit that since they said it was here to stay and then they rescinded it.
kyonkun_denwa@reddit
Let me guess... you work for a bank or for the Ontario government?
Top_Midnight_2225@reddit
I'll do some digging this weekend. And yes...OPS employee here.
kyonkun_denwa@reddit
Yeah that tracks.
I'm looking for a new job right now, I previously worked for the OPS on contract back in 2019 (as a budgeting analyst for the department of finance), I still have some contacts there and was considering a return because I'm kind of fed up with the private sector. But the 5 days a week in-office requirement is absurd when literally every other level of the public service has some kind of hybrid arrangement, honestly it makes the OPS one of the worst public sector employers IMO. What's even more absurd about it is that even in 2019, most people in my department worked from home one or two days a week!
-Racer-X@reddit
its almost as if you build a good, interesting to drive car, people will buy it
Realtrain@reddit
More like consumers are very price sensitive and are interested in a more affordable EV despite its shortcomings.
budgefrankly@reddit
The reality is that it's just a great family car full stop.
People in this subreddit are obsessing over fake gear-changes, but in the real world it's got lots of storage, lots of space, a nice cabin and a quiet, smooth ride which is all folks care about.
And for all the doom and gloom, the reality is that if you have a driveway, EVs have lower running costs than ICE cars
stakoverflo@reddit
Does the regular I5 even do that? I'd be surprised if it weren't relegated to just the N...
budgefrankly@reddit
No, only the N does it. The regular one is just an unexcitingly practical family car.
Trevski@reddit
With an excitingly cool looking exterior
AntalRyder@reddit
And very exciting acceleration if you have the AWD
Innocent-Bystander94@reddit
Great family cars don’t randomly break down nor do they crush kids
SharkyIzrod@reddit

w0nderbrad@reddit
So by your definition, a gas cars would be horrible family cars. Because every single one of my gas cars has randomly broken down or it's been out of commission for a day or two for random scheduled repairs.
Innocent-Bystander94@reddit
Buy better cars.
These things randomly break down while you’re driving. That’s extremely dangerous. This isn’t a “oh shit my car won’t start” type of thing.
w0nderbrad@reddit
lol even the best ice cars are worse than the worst EVs
Innocent-Bystander94@reddit
lol. Lmao even.
Not when the dodge hornet, or any of the Korean eGMP cars exist
TheRealPizza@reddit
Dodge hornet is literally a gas car lol
w0nderbrad@reddit
Lmfao. Name a gas car where any of these don’t fail: alternator, starter, radiator, transmission, spark plugs, gaskets, seals, belts, chains, fuel pump, turbo if you have one which these days is damn near 50/50, etc etc etc. could go on and on. Try again. Not to mention needing to go to a gas station every single time you run out of gas, needing fluid and filter change every 3-10k miles lul like bro… you just in denial
Innocent-Bystander94@reddit
Lmfao. Do you think those things fail with regularity? Particularly while driving? Are you dense?
Neglected_Martian@reddit
I have 80k miles on an eGMP car, I have taken it to the dealership twice, it once for an inspection and once for a break fluid check that the service schedule called for. Name a gas car that can do that?
w0nderbrad@reddit
So do these things fail or not on gas cars? You made a statement and now you're just moving goalposts and deflecting and denying facts because I pointed out something that went directly against the point you were trying to make. If you can't defend your statement and argue facts, then there's no point in even having a conversation. You're too chicken shit to admit your argument was bullshit and now you're just going to deflect/deny/distract and I've seen how this plays out 100000 times before so there's no use lol
Innocent-Bystander94@reddit
No shit.
Go look at any reliability study. It’s ICE and hybrid Toyotas and Hondas. And these things don’t just randomly fail while driving, nor are they failing at the rates the ICCUs are. Nor are them failing as dangerous as a ICCU. I’m not going to do your homework for you. Just Google it. Stop defending crap just cause it’s an EV. The eGMP cars are not Teslas. They have dangerous issues.
budgefrankly@reddit
Assuming you're talking ICCU failures, the prevalence in 2025 was less than half a percent, and it's all fixable under the car's 5-year warranty.
Yeah, which is why I wouldn't recommend the Hyundai Palisade, but would instead recommend the Hyundai Ionic 5 which has completely different seat controls.
Innocent-Bystander94@reddit
Lmao “fixable under the 5 year warranty”
My brother in Christ. 5 years is nothing.
willpc14@reddit
It's about 62% of the amount of time Americans tend to own new vehicles. Stop pretending everyone does, wants to, or has to own 15-25 year old Japanese shitboxes.
Billybilly_B@reddit
Seats folding was not on the Ioniq
strangway@reddit
What shortcomings? I rented one for a week and I was properly impressed.
Realtrain@reddit
The ICCU has a 10% chance of completely failing, and Hyundai has no fix at all for it.
Randalneal@reddit
Did you make that statistic up?
Realtrain@reddit
Sadly, no
strangway@reddit
Up to 2024, so I wouldn’t buy a used one. 2025 and newer should be good, now that Hyundai is aware of it.
Realtrain@reddit
At least for me, their botched handling of it has me very wary of their new vehicles and what their response will be if there is a major issue again.
Zugzugzug3@reddit
This is how Hyundai handles literally every issue and every single car they've ever made has had at least one serious recall issue. We had multiple "park your car outside in case it catches fire" recalls on our old Hyundai and for all of them they still didn't have fixes six months after the recall went out.
My sister just bought a new Palisade and they recalled them because a kid got crushed under the rear seat. No timeline on a fix. They pushed a software update to make the rear seat more sensitive to detect obstructions, but it supposedly had that from the start, so you wonder what if anything they actually changed.
t-poke@reddit
2025s are still failing
Zugzugzug3@reddit
The facelift has fixed a lot of the issues with them, but the original I5 had a trash dash, ugly screens, no hard buttons for things like heated seats. No rear wiper. Hard seats. Also had some safety issues with the brake lights not activating during regen braking unless you pressed the brake pedal.
strangway@reddit
Thankfully 2025 and after have hard switches for seat heating/ventilation, and steering wheel heat.

Circa 2022 I was ready to buy an EV. My wife and I were car shopping as we needed to both do lease turn-ins that we got just before the pandemic. Had the EV6 or Kona EV or something like it been available for a decent price, we'd probably have one today.
But the dealers. Holy shit the dealers. Granted, most cars were kind of crazy at the time, but the EVs were absolutely ridiculous with the dealer markup. I can't remember the exact number of the ADM that was on all of the EVs we looked at, but the number that is sticking out in my head is $10k.
Years later, and all the car manufacturers are like, "we're cutting production because nobody is buying EVs" and I feel like they are having a surprised Pikachu moment.
Realtrain@reddit
I've sworn off Kia after my experience with their dealers. Like holy shit it's like they're trying to be a stereotype of car dealers.
icona_@reddit
It’s kinda crazy how little control most car companies have over customers actual sales experience, it all goes through whatever your local dealer wants

How does a manual mode work on an ev anyways? You need to hear the non existent revs / tach for when to “shift”
Ftpini@reddit
It builds up power and cuts it to simulate shifting. It actually slows the car down and makes it perform worse but people enjoy it and have fun.
m1a2c2kali@reddit
Which is also true for a manual vs automatic these days
Ftpini@reddit
Except with a manual transmission it’s actually doing something and you’re not just pretending to shift gears.
03Void@reddit
There's "engine" noise.
Pwnaholic@reddit
It’s definitely more than just engine noise. It’s a blast lol
stulogic@reddit
This x1000. I’m in no way anti EV and daily drive one, but they’re about the last thing I would choose in my garage for spirited fun. The 5n is the first I’ve ever tried that is an absolute riot to drive. Such a brilliant experience.
strongmanass@reddit
It's basically a video game.
cabs84@reddit
such a wild take lol. you are still driving a physical object around and have to consider all of the other things you would in a gas car. traction, weight transfer, momentum, etc etc.
my vroom vroom sounds don't come from authentic explosions so it's just a video game lol
strongmanass@reddit
That was hyperbole. The point is it's a facsimile of driving a car with an engine and transmission.
FWIW I don't want any vroom vroom sounds or engine in my cars, so I was never going to find the Ioniq 5N engine mode anything more than a gimmick.
KSoMA@reddit
There is both a tach and "revving".

yes basically shift points and power input make it feel as if its a true manual
peopeopeopeo10@reddit
Manual mode sucks in my opinion
Tried it on the new EV6 GT, felt like a nonsense gimmick
Cramer12@reddit
I had the complete opposite experience. As a die hard manual guy, I thought it made the car more fun and actually “worked” pretty well. It made me forget it was an EV
Snoo93079@reddit
So basically it replicates one of the flaws of an ICE engine?
Cramer12@reddit
Ragebait used to be believable
Snoo93079@reddit
I mean, the loss of power during shifting is objectively bad
-Racer-X@reddit
it appears there's something notably different between the 2
the 5 has record sales the 6 is being discontinued and never sold well
i am unsure exactly what that difference would be
peopeopeopeo10@reddit
Already discontinued the EV6 GT?
AkiraSieghart@reddit
In the US, kinda? Not official, but the 2026 EV6 GT isn't coming to the States.
-Racer-X@reddit
ah youre right i was thinking ioniq 6 my apologies
likealikeasexyorange@reddit
I'm personally bummed about the Ioniq 6 cancellation. I know it's ugly, but it's pretty spacious inside for a sedan and it's so efficient (I think as of last year the RWD Long Range trim was the first or second most efficient EV we could buy in the US.)
strongmanass@reddit
They bungled up the EV6 GT IMO. It debuted before the Ioniq 5N and was essentially the very fast EV6, no fake shifter. Then last year they just made it a copy of the Ioniq 5N, for what purpose I'm not sure. It doesn't make sense to me to have two versions of an extremely niche EV like that. On top of that, the EV6 GT is a different model from the EV6 GT-line, which is confusing to basically all buyers.
KSoMA@reddit
Every single brand does this. BMW has M-Performance, Toyota now has GR-Sport, Mercedes has AMG-Line, Hyundai has N-Line, VW has R-Line, Audi has S-Line, etc. These range from decent performance bumps at best to literally just steering wheel badges at worst.
strongmanass@reddit
The problem is the EV6 GT sounds like it should be part of the GT-line - as in "here's our GT-line, and within it we have the EV6 GT, the EV4 GT, the EV9 GT, etc" like Porsche have the GT3, GT4, Cayenne Turbo GT, Taycan Turbo GT. That's different from M340i vs M3 which you can tell are different trims just from the names.
a1usiv@reddit
The regular Ioniq 5 is a good car, full stop. Perhaps not the most interesting, but it still drives and looks better than most of the competition.
EVRoadie@reddit
Not the most interesting? That design is still fairly unique compared to all the other crossovers out there. They did a fantastic job on this car.
Now the interior, that was fairly boring inside and why I chose my EV6 instead.
blueingreen85@reddit
I think it’s one of the best styled cars of the past 20 years.
a1usiv@reddit
Don't get me wrong, I think it's an awesome retro futuristic design that aged well thus far. Just meant that it isn't the most interesting vehicle overall on the market perhaps (not from a design standpoint), as a concession to the commenter who I was replying to.
falacer99@reddit
Isn't this also what's said about the Mazda 3/30 and 5/50? Not the most interesting vehicles with basics on the interior but are decent to own & drive? I've seen more and more around here in SoCal lately. My neighbor's got their oldest a MX-3 last year.
Selethorme@reddit
The interiors are generally considered pretty nice on the 5/50. Ask me how I know.
xlb250@reddit
The N, sure. But I have a base model and it drives like a CUV. Actually, the ride quality is pretty bad.
HamsterCapable4118@reddit
When you have a critical failure at 2-10% failure rate, it’s definitely well below any kind of “full stop” rating, except on a highway.
_Unusual_Flatworm_@reddit
This is so overblown… you only ever see these comments on Reddit… we’ve had 3 E-GMP cars with well over 50,000 miles and no issues. Mostly in-town/work commute miles, too. They are very good EVs.
HamsterCapable4118@reddit
Ah so when Consumer Reports ranks Hyundai highly in reliability rankings one year, it's all great. But when it flags a 2-10% estimated failure rate on the ICCU, then it's just an overblown issue. Say that to those affected and see what they think. That kind of failure rate is massive for a car.
_Unusual_Flatworm_@reddit
I’ve said nothing about Consumer Reports, I’ve simply stated that many Reddit commenters love to be extremely hyperbolic, and negative…
HamsterCapable4118@reddit
You're gaslighting.
_Unusual_Flatworm_@reddit

ManufacturerBest2758@reddit
It’s a very good car
markeydarkey2@reddit
??? The IONIQ 5 looks good and drives well.
farrrtttttrrrrrrrrtr@reddit
It’s not a good car though, the ICCU failures show that
Zugzugzug3@reddit
Has almost nothing to do with it being a good car (it was just as good before too) and everything to do with the fact that Hyundai is still giving the equivalent of the $7500 subsidy off the price from its own pocket while most others in the industry are not.
The MSRP on a loaded I5 is very close to a Model Y, but the I5 has like 200 less per month on lease payments because of cash on the hood from Hyundai. And that's before you even try to haggle.
Turns out if your car is similar or better to the competition, but several thousand dollars cheaper, it will sell well.
FinalFantasyZed@reddit
The ICCU problem that they still haven’t fixed begs to differ. So many people essentially end up with an undriveable car (until the ICCU is swapped out which can take weeks) because the EV system fails to charge the 12V battery. Tesla had it figured out a long time ago and all these EVs still insist on using the 12V battery to start the car when there’s a perfectly good charged Lithium battery that they can use.
biggsteve81@reddit
Tesla still has a dc-dc converter and a 12v battery to provide 12v power, that is what the ICCU does (among other things). Otherwise your hazard lights wouldn't work when the high voltage system is off.
mgobla@reddit
if you offer a car with huge discounts people will buy it - they are losing money giving them away , sometimes this was the cheapest car to lease, cheaper to lease than any other car, also you can buy them under $30k (new)
munche@reddit
I really hate how modern car enthusiasts talk like they're at a shareholder meeting
Why should we have any interest or care on exactly how much profit a manufacturer made selling us a car
markeydarkey2@reddit
This is all just speculation, it's not known whether they lose money on these. The car was profitable 2 years ago even with strong incentives, and that was before they began domestic production.
lemonylol@reddit
What was the actual shock here, because I thought it was the general consensus that the Ioniq 5 is one of the best electric cars, if not vehicles in general, you can buy?

emp_mei_is_bae@reddit
Without iccu issue this would be perfect
DoubleFudge101@reddit
I read about this and supposedly it hasn’t been fixed. Even if it’s a 2% chance, there’s still a chance that the car is going to brick on you while on the highway or in your commute. Also read that there aren’t enough replacement parts so cars can be sitting for months at the dealers.
BlueKnight44@reddit
I don't know how they are not buying back 100% of cars in states like California that have low repair limits on days out of service. Like that has tk be a huge problem
Innocent-Bystander94@reddit
It won’t be fixed either. It’s been an issue for years now and there seemingly hasn’t even been an attempt to properly fix it. Their solution is to just replace it when it breaks. Couple problems with that:
It’s the same part so it’ll break again.
There’s always a massive wait to have it fixed because parts availability is ass for the ICCU (Hyundai Kia don’t pull enough for repairs vs putting into new cars)
It essentially makes these cars as disposable as possible. As soon as that warranty expires, you’ve got a financial time bomb on your hands.
FinalFantasyZed@reddit
Why don’t they just get rid of the 12V battery and just use the lithium battery to start the car? Am I dumb or naive or does that sound like a better idea than what they’re doing.
biggsteve81@reddit
The high voltage battery has contactors (essentially giant relays) that isolate the high voltage battery when the car is off. To engage those contactors requires power (12v), so without the 12v battery you can't turn on the high voltage battery. All EVs have this system.
1731799517@reddit
More importantly, they often (always?) also have hard breaks like pyro-fuses that will make sure that in case of a crash the battery is taken offline and does not set the car chassis on high voltage, for example.
ymjcmfvaeykwxscaai@reddit
not entirely stupid, some other cars, like some Teslas or germans, use a separate, low voltage lithium battery that at least doesn't have the weak points of using the 12v lead acid battery to do those same things. I think it's just cost as to why they don't do that.
TwoPlanksOnPowder@reddit
I had the same question a while back, and from what I can tell, it's mainly so that the 12V battery can disconnect the high voltage battery in the event of a crash, and then continue to operate things like emergency lights and door handles.
I would think it's also easier/cheaper to design lower power accessories like switches, window motors, lights, etc. to use the existing 12V standard instead of making it work with 400V or 800V systems directly.
walnut100@reddit
Recall parts aren't subject to warranty term limits. Let's not spread bullshit.
Innocent-Bystander94@reddit
Tell that to the people still being denied repairs on their Theta 2 pieces of shit.
This company weasels out of everything.
And also, irrc, there is a limit on the ICCU. I could be wrong, but I seem to remember it.
Lost_Most_9732@reddit
Can you provide evidence for any of your claims on this post? I'm not saying you're wrong, but this is the second comment I've seen of yours on this submission where you're just kind of saying things that are not exactly true.
Where did you see a limit on a part that's covered by federal warranty?
walnut100@reddit
Theta II is a piece of shit but nobody's being denied for the knock sensor and rod bearing issue which is what the recall actually exists for.
I don't know about any limits on the ICCU though.

Do they not give loaners during the wait?
eneka@reddit
My friend just had his ‘25 towed to the dealer. No loaners available and there’s a waitlist of 20+ ahead lol. No ETA on when it’ll be fixed. Corporate is supposedly offering rental credits but that’s ymmv. Still waiting to hear back from a case manager. He’ll be requesting a buyback/lemon law once it hits 30 days.
PerfectlyBoosted@reddit
I have 2 Hyundai dealers near me. I bought a new Elantra N and had a slightly misaligned b pillar trim. I waited until my first oil change to have them address the issue at the same time. I called one dealer and they said they have a 20+ car wait. Id have to drop my car off to “hold” my place in line. May take up to a month. They wouldn’t let me just bring it in when they had time, no loaners, nothing.
The other dealer got me in next day.
The dealer network for Hyundai Kia cars needs a huge overhaul.
t-poke@reddit
From what I've read in the EV6 subreddit, and I assume the same applies to the Hyundai side of things:
Some dealers will give you a loaner if available
Some dealers will get you a rental car and pay for it
Some dealers won't do jack shit and will tell you to rent a car yourself and seek reimbursement from Kia - I don't think I've ever seen instances of anyone not get successfully reimbursed, but of course that's a hassle and you need to have the financial ability to front the cost of a rental until you do get reimbursed.
quantum-quetzal@reddit
I'm likely to be in the market for an EV in the next 6 months. The ICCU issue is a huge shame for Hyundai, since the Ioniq 5 would be a no-brainer otherwise. As it is, I'm more likely to end up with either a Honda Prologue or Acura ZDX.
WhateverItTakes117@reddit
Im currently driving a Blazer EV. It's a base model AWD, so it uses the same powertrain as the Prologue AWD. Im really enjoying it. But man, I want the ZDX with AWD because it's about 500hp, lol
KSoMA@reddit
Blazer SS is a decent bit cheaper than a ZDX AWD and makes another 115HP.
WhateverItTakes117@reddit
For new cars yes. For used it seems the ZDX with AWD is a good bit cheaper than a Blazer SS. A brand new one is out of my price range, either way.
ichigoismyhomie@reddit
Chevy EV ecosystem has locked down infotainment system that doesn't allow android auto/apple car play. Honda/acura EV infotainment have AA/CP capabilities despite having the same android-based OS.
Majority of Chevy dealerships in my area also are not well-versed in servicing their EVs and I'm in socal suburb. Dealer experience make a huge difference in daily ownership. If we didn't get a great financial incentives from Chevy when we bought our equinox EV, I would've gone honda/acura variant instead.
DoubleFudge101@reddit
How responsive is the touchscreen on the blazer ss? is it quick or does it lag?
KSoMA@reddit
Unfortunately idk myself but the Prologue and ZDX use the same software as the Blazer and Lyriq so i wouldn't expect a difference other then the Hondas having AA and Car play
FSUfan35@reddit
FYI the Honda is just a rebaged chevy blazer so probably want to cross shop
quantum-quetzal@reddit
I'm aware. However, I'm not remotely interested in supporting GM's decision to remove Android Auto and Car Play, and I'm ready to vote with my wallet.
Happy-Organization99@reddit
I believe the Cadillac Lyriq has AA/Carplay as well since it came out before they made that policy change.
FSUfan35@reddit
Totally fair!
mehdotdotdotdot@reddit
Also it’s more expensive than the rest of the competition and even the model y
EVRoadie@reddit
Own an 2022 EV6 with no regrets. I think the ICCU, while a concern, is a bit overblown. I think it really depends on how good a dealer you have when you have warranty service done.
caliboy_19@reddit
If you're a person with a local commute and drive normal hours it's probably fine to get stranded on the side of the road. If you're someone who will use it to drive anywhere and everywhere at random hours, or for an extended commute, it's probably not a great option. I would have loved to get one but passed on it in favor of a Tesla.
EVRoadie@reddit
I've driven mine from Iowa to Arizona and Arizona to California. I'm not worried about the ICCU. I'm more worried about the lack of a true spare.
Innocent-Bystander94@reddit
The ICCU is a dangerous problem. It can go at anytime. And has a high failure rate. It’s expensive, hard to get, and there’s no real fix. It’s under blown if anything.
Lost_Most_9732@reddit
Couple things. It's not technically expensive, yet, because the part is covered under the federal power train warranty. People in the Ioniq 5 and 6 subreddit mention turnaround times being down to three or four days for many. You also have no numbers on the failure rates. I'll grant that it's probably higher than Hyundai says, but you have absolutely no evidence that it's a high failure rate.
It's 2026, you are parroting information from 2024.
EVRoadie@reddit
What's the failure rate?
t-poke@reddit
Right, it's one of those things if the car bricked itself while parked, it wouldn't be as bad. But the fact it can blow while going down the highway and force you to pull over is troubling.
sprchrgddc5@reddit
I agree with you. I really enjoy Hyundai right now, I own a Kona N, but to not properly address the ICCU issue, not giving it a real fix, it’s turning any informed buyer off. That, plus the high theft of their cars and major engine issues of the past, and now the folding rear seat killing babies, it’s just not a good look for this company.
Also dude, I still really want an EM1 even tho I own a supercharged RSX. It’s one of the cars I told my wife I’m likely buying and telling her after lol.
Innocent-Bystander94@reddit
Get one while you can. Clean ones are disappearing and the real nice ones are getting more and more expensive. I highly recommend them lol. It’s slow, but fun.
t-poke@reddit
And that's crapshoot, since, AFAIK, roadside assistance will tow it to the nearest Kia dealer, not necessarily your Kia dealer.
The dealer I got mine from is 30 minutes away from me. There are two much closer, but they didn't want to play ball while shopping, so if my ICCU blows by near my house and it gets towed to either of them, I don't have high hopes.
I suppose I could pay to have it towed to my dealer, but still....
Also, I don't even know how good my dealer's service department is, it's not like I'm taking it there for oil changes.
Scazitar@reddit
It's the best feeling EV I've driven by a fair amount.
I'm not ready to go EV & I've never really trusted guy Hyundai but I really think they have the right idea with their EVs. Their is a reason brands have studied them.
Not_Daijoubu@reddit
It's a very normal car in the best sense. Balanced weight and feel to inputs, quiet cabin, good range, my dad didn't have any software issues for the duration of the lease.
Another EV I genuinely liked was the 1st gen Leaf. Sans obvious range shortcomings as an early EV, super normal econobox feel.
Bebealex@reddit
Hyundai killed a child because they cheaped out on a control module for their electronic seats.
Innocent-Bystander94@reddit
Thank you. I feel like that’s being memory holed by all this praise of the brand coming in from nowhere. It’s suspicious.
DO NOT BUY HYUNDAI
Bitter-Fly1230@reddit
Hyundai has seemingly been able to rebrand after decades of producing hot garbage (including the Ioniq 5) through mass marketing.
Go to any comment section on social media and criticize Hyundai for their shitty business practices or cheaping out on products causing deaths or cars that break down for seemingly no reason, and people will shun you claiming “it’s not the 90s anymore. Hyundai is just as reliable as Toyota now”.
Hyundai could literally kill a child (and they did) and people will still go “yeah while mine didn’t so…”
Drum_Eatenton@reddit
Ok I won’t
mycounterpointers@reddit
Sounds like negligent parents, tbh. The button doesn't magically press itself
Innocent-Bystander94@reddit
If an errant press can kill a child in a vehicle designed for the transport of said children, that’s a design issue. Kids are going to touch things. Even adults accidentally press buttons. A single push of a button shouldn’t be a death sentence. What the fuck is this victim blaming?
ethereal3xp@reddit
ICCU fixed?
I can see Hyundai succeeding with their IONQ5 to 9 line and SUV line (mainly hybrids) from Paliasade to Venue.
eneka@reddit
Nope. Friend just had his towed in. No ETA on parts, no loaners available. 20+ in line waiting ahead of him.
ethereal3xp@reddit
Thats terrible
This is hard to believe. Hyundai should compensate via car rental then.
eneka@reddit
he has to call corporate and get a rental reimbursment approved.
ethereal3xp@reddit
Why should he though? The dealership should be taking care of these things... no?
Hyundai always seems to have one big issue with their cars. Too eager to release new models without a higher level quality control.
mklimbach@reddit
You'd be surprised how many hoops auto manufacturers have for such simple, common sense policies. My dealer can only provide their own fleet of vehicles (which their service department pays for) to be reimbursed under warranty (and they cut us down on days used for many crazy reasons). Warranty will not pay for any external services such as towing and rental without the customer using their roadside/customer care lines. Use your own tow? They might give partial reimbursement. Rental car is 80-100/day? Sorry, they'll only do 50 if they do it at all. It'll all in the name of cost cutting under the guise of preventing fraud.
walnut100@reddit
They do.
dsac@reddit
The new ones supposedly are fixed, and the pre-2025 models are the ones with the issues
t-poke@reddit
It's definitely happening to 2025s.
ethereal3xp@reddit
I saw this also.
Is it the same issue with EV6?
cubs223425@reddit
Nice to see its success. It' a bitg overpriced, but that's kind of the reality for every EV. Overall, it's got almost everything the average buyer could want. It looks unique, but it's not completely ridiculous and is pretty cohesive in its design (I think the rectangular lights suit it perfectly). It's roomy, has a performance variant that has actual performance aspirations, and it's just good at what it wants to be.
It's not for me, but it's doing the things that I want EV makers to do to convince me I could want one with the proper maturation within the market.
Logitech4873@reddit
The article randomly mentions some US subsidies. Do they really impact the sales of this car that much? Is the US such a major market for it?
maxgeek@reddit
Big discounts will do that
DelosHost@reddit
Almost got it but it’s a smodge too large for my tastes. Looks like a small hatch back but it’s not
Simon676@reddit
Yeah it looks small but it has the same wheelbase as a Mercedes S Class lol
KSoMA@reddit
Not really that shocking. The Ioniq 5 got a $10k price cut the day after the $7500 tax credit expired, and most other electric vehicles haven't changed pricing to match their post-tax credit cost, so the Ioniq 5 is a MUCH better value than most of its competition. Helps as well that it's now built in the US so it got big tax incentives on RnD and isn't (directly) impacted by tariffs.
FourEyesAndThighs@reddit
Used EV’s are where the value is at. I picked up a 2023 Tesla Model Y Performance with 22,000 miles on it, extended warranty and Full Self Driving activated for 28K. I have a $400 a month car payment, and I’m paying $5 to ‘fill up’ at home.
moonRekt@reddit
$75k 3 years ago? Bloody hell, it was $55k in 2021
FourEyesAndThighs@reddit
Tesla inflated the hell out of car prices during and after the pandemic to fleece consumers.
Innocent-Bystander94@reddit
If you’re an owner, hopefully the ICCU fails and stops the car before it has a chance to crunch your child in its seats.
Drzhivago138@reddit
What does that have to do with the Ioniq 5? If you'd done an ounce of research, you'd know that's for the Palisade.
noSSD4me@reddit
People be spitting dumb shit all day along about Korean cars on this sub, it's pretty much a tradition at this point...
strangway@reddit
The Ioniq 5 is an effing great car, I don’t see this as unexpected at all.
TheTimeIsChow@reddit
Took my wife's Santa Fe in for service over the weekend and was keeping half an eye on what was being delivered, test driven, sold, etc.
At least 60% of the traffic was for Ionic 5's and 9s. They accounted for half the cars on the lot and held the two main showroom spots when you walked in.
People clearly freaking love those things.
I sat in the Ionic 9 that they had in the show room. Felt basically like we were in our Santa Fe only with fancy handles, different style cloth seats, and a higher price tag. But... that's probably what people like about it. Just a big ole 3 row EV. Nothing over the top.
Sarah_hussain09@reddit
The driving experience is what sells people on the Ioniq models. Also it's interior and tech is honestly comparable to legacy automaker luxury brands.
Our family has a X7 and the Ioniq 9 we tested is better in basically every way as a family car. Surprisingly in driving dynamics as well. Road trips are not ideal but otherwise the Ioniq 9 is so damn good. Would take this over a X7, Q7, GLS, Aviator, MDX, etc. Some of which we have owned before.
EVs are such a cheat code for mainstream brands
Ancient_Persimmon@reddit
Probably a lot of cars waiting on ICCU swaps.
RedditWhileIWerk@reddit
Isn't this the one where if you get the smallest damage to the battery pack, you're looking at a $60k repair bill?
That was 2 years ago, I suppose it's a $70k bill now or something similarly ridiculous.
Innocent-Bystander94@reddit
Yes it is
RedditWhileIWerk@reddit
wow, the EV zealot bots are out in full force this morning
How dare anyone ask questions!
sponge_welder@reddit
That wouldn't make any sense, at that price you could just get two replacement vehicles instead of repairing it
xlouiex@reddit
I went in to buy a Ioniq 5 2,5 years ago and left with a Ioniq 6.
Been conflicted ever since.
mycounterpointers@reddit
Hyundai and Kia killing it. They have come a long way from the bad reputation of the 80s and 90s. I might be in the market for a new car soon and they are definitely top of the list.
wiscotangofoxtreat@reddit
The standard ones have been listed a bit above 30k
noSSD4me@reddit
A fun, affordable, sporty looking EV with good tech and the best warranty on the market? Shocker.
Stu__Pidasso@reddit
Even without subsidies, there were pretty steep discounts and offers on these for lower trims. I still think they're one of the better looking EVs out there and love them in Teal. If the typical dealer BS with Hyundai didn't happen to me, I would have had one in my driveway a few years ago.
