Do you have any earplug recommendations for the aging mosher?

As many of us do, I have come to regret ignoring my elders when it comes to caring for my hearing due to permanent tinnitus. So I now wear earplugs to gigs (and the cinema, theatre, pretty much any vaguely loud event).
I've used Ear Peace earplugs which are pretty decent for audio quality, but I am the kind of almost 40 year old who enjoys a bit of friendly violence at a gig. With ear plugs, this generally means that instead of the music, I just listen to myself gasping.
Are there any ear plugs that will allow me to spend a gig in the pit, whilst still enjoying the music, or is this one of those situations similar to wearing earplugs and hearing yourself eat at horrendous volumes?
