Hard time deciding whether today is a Ferrari or Lamborghini day

Surprisingly has good fuel economy! Which is quite helpful these days.

You should add in a generic Sony laptop since they've entered the auto market now.
fretinator007@reddit
I'ma out here in my Pinto hoping the battery doesn't catch on fire.

How come your Acer Ferrari has the shell of a Travelmate 8000? Also fellow Acer Ferrari owner but I can't get the recovery discs to work for some reason.
Lumpy-Valuable-8050@reddit (OP)
it looks to be a mix-match of parts so i assume it was damaged and repaired. I guess this explains it!
So in reality it's an acer ferrari 3000 motherboard, travelmate 8000 palmrest, with ferrari added decals, acer ferrari 3200 nameplate thing - and the bottom case is from a ferrari 3400 lol
gen_angry@reddit
Hopefully runs better than Dawid's experience, lol.

I saw this video before i got my acer and i raged at how he wasted half the vid trying to install steam, when he could've just gotten "legal" copies of games online or a physical disc and try those games out.
micksterminator3@reddit
These videos make me mad. Like no shit it can't run fortnite lol. I think I'm the only one that keeps it era accurate with software and performance is always more than acceptable with what I test. I recently got a low powered 8th gen i5 Dell laptop with hd 620 graphics. It's been fun putting it thru it's paces with games I know are within its reach. Plus this thing has VGA out for my CRT monitors. It'll fly at 640x480-1024x768 at high refresh rates with ease.
officialsanic@reddit
Yeah for the early 2000s most people had physical games anyway.
gen_angry@reddit
Yea I don't think he's that knowledgeable about the older methods and hardware. Still a pretty funny vid though.
Looking at the specs for 'acer ferrari 3000', it looks like a pretty sick machine for 2003-2004.

Meanwhile I have to decide whether today is a Ferrari day or my other Ferrari day
OpacusVenatori@reddit
Had the Ferrari 3200 back in the day; one of the worst-designed laptops I’ve ever had. Mostly because the IDE HDD was installed upside down right below the left palm-rest, so with a 7200rpm drive that area would burn up after being on for an hour or two.
Then the BIOS had a drive size limitation of 128GB…
Lumpy-Valuable-8050@reddit (OP)
yeah since it was a slide in bay i had to get a HDD - otherwise i would've just used a compact flash storage like i did with the lambo
OpacusVenatori@reddit
Before I retired the whole system, I used a 2.5” IDE 44-pin adapter enclosure to mSATA, and slapped in a 120GB Orico mSATA SSD. Worked well enough for a WinXP install.
Couldn’t justify the price at the time for even a used Intel mSATA or Samsung Evo… 🤪
Lumpy-Valuable-8050@reddit (OP)
any chance you still have it? lying around? lol
OpacusVenatori@reddit
The whole system? Yeah it's somewhere in storage, I know that for a fact 'cause I remember saving it someplace the last time I consolidated storage. But I'm currently not in the best state to go hunting for it =(.
I got so mad at the palm-rest heat issue that it basically became a glorified desktop with cooling pad running underneath. It felt like such a waste at the time using the Ferrari as basically a Windows Server 2003 Domain Controller...
Ended up replacing it with an off-lease Dell Precision M70. Gave up the 64-bit AMD CPU, but kept a 2GB RAM config, dual internal SSD configuration, nVidia Quadro 1400 graphics, and best of all, 1920x1200 screen resolution =P.
Lumpy-Valuable-8050@reddit (OP)
funny how we went from 16:10 to 16:9, only to go back to 16:10 again lol
Lumpy-Valuable-8050@reddit (OP)
The models are Asus Lamborghini VX1 and Acer Ferrari 3XXX?
(I can't find much information about this ferrari as most 3200 models i see, have the silver palmrest, whereas this one has a grey one. I don't mind though as it looks much better. On the bottom of the ferrari it says it's a model 3400 so i have no clue. The gpu is a radeon 9200 which makes it match the acer ferrari 3000 specs. Maybe it's just a laptop that got mashed up with different parts and frames from being damaged? No clue.
Mvromeo@reddit
The grey palmrest is probably from a Travelmate (660, 800 or other).
Ferrari 3000 came with an Athlon XP-M cpu and Radeon 9200, 3200 and 3400 with Athlon 64 and Radeon 9700.
Lumpy-Valuable-8050@reddit (OP)
yep it's defo a 3000 with the shell of 3200/3400 then.
TheGillos@reddit
Am I the only one who removes all the stickers from the inside? Lol.
I did it then, so it feels authentic to do it now.
Lumpy-Valuable-8050@reddit (OP)
For the asus one, you are probably supposed to remove that big sticker talking about the specs, for the ferrari ones, it's part of the design.
thedirr@reddit
First time I've ever seen a laptop with a Marlboro logo and and not the smoke only. Sweet machines
Soros_G@reddit
The Lambtop has itself as the background? What an ego
bok4600@reddit
LGR did a video on the Ferrari laptop several years ago
Lumpy-Valuable-8050@reddit (OP)
Yeah he basically has the second generation of both these laptops (Ferrari 4000 and Lambo VX2S)
AgentOrange96@reddit
My favorite part about these laptops is the fact that these high end car manufacturers patterned with laptop manufactures known for being low end.
Lumpy-Valuable-8050@reddit (OP)
If you think about it, then Asus and Acer were probably also fierce competitors in 2000's - as that's when asus was actually making affordable stuff lmao.
AsusP750@reddit
Very cool
elvelazco@reddit
Lamborrari :/
Potential_Copy27@reddit
Ferramborghini :)
electrowiz64@reddit
You should load vista in the lambo laptop lol. I remember seeing commercials with vista in it
Lumpy-Valuable-8050@reddit (OP)
So the sticker on the ferrari is "supports winxp, compatible with win2k" and for the lamborghini it's "supports winxp but vista capable" - I decided to keep it on winxp as the windows key on the asus is not the windows vista variant - which has a circle around the windows logo
TechIoT@reddit
I own a VX2 myself!, lovely machine
Lumpy-Valuable-8050@reddit (OP)
I bet the VX2 actually has the lamborghini bios splashscreen 🤣 - that's the only annoying thing about the VX1, that it's just an ASUS animation
TechIoT@reddit
It does, it also goes Vroom vroom
Lumpy-Valuable-8050@reddit (OP)
That's good, I hear it's only VX2S that could potentially be affected with bumpgate, but VX2 is safe
Lumpy-Valuable-8050@reddit (OP)
oh crap i forgot to show the ferrari mouse 😭
gen_angry@reddit
It's always lambo day
Nice machines :)
Manjushri1213@reddit
I concur lol
Lumpy-Valuable-8050@reddit (OP)
I hate to be biased but you ain't wrong 😂
failtuna@reddit
I vaguely remember seeing these in (I think) the Argos catalogue many years ago when I was younger.
Really wanted one until I realised the laptop I had was pretty much the same as the Acer one without the Ferrari design.
LogicalEgo@reddit
You spend all day working on a excel spreed sheet with the Ferrari just to bottle the presentation later.
tricheb0ars@reddit
Ahhh I see we have knowledgeable sports fans on this sub as well
