Do you think that a united Yugoslavia would be better than the separate countries that we have today? (Image unrelated)

It was sad that Yugoslawia broke apart because all those cunts immigrated to other countries.
Sweet-Bed2076@reddit
Without CORRUPTION it would be better regardless, But yea it would be safer and YU could somewhat protect it own economy against others but NO COMMUNISM, no CORRUPTION,
And most important, a lot of EDUCATION,
But again YU is not necessary without corruption every country would be fine on their own
superkikiriki@reddit
lukatsito@reddit
Definitely, larger multicultural countries work better under any point of view
Sad_Suspect_9649@reddit
It would be better if we included Bulgaria, Romania, Greece, Hungary and Russia. Otherwise no.
HorrorsPersistSoDoI@reddit
and RUSSIA? Sure, keep going! Also add Turkey, Azerbaijan, Vietnam and New Zealand while you are at it
SuspiciousShock8294@reddit
No. Turkey is where i draw the line. They spent way too much time here on the last go-around... It didn't work out too well for some of us. No hate, and i am not naming names, but - hard pass on Turkey.
HorrorsPersistSoDoI@reddit
I was just joking anyway brate
SuspiciousShock8294@reddit
Obviously. So was i. For a person that has holly christian blood of my glorious ancestors, i've spent a bit too much time in Turkey. Lived there for 7 years, on & off. I got no beef with Turkey... And they got no pork for me. We're all friends here.
mob74@reddit
Yeah, we don’t offer pork to you, but you could easily go for a supermarket and buy yourself 😁. Btw, some of us also can only communicate with the educated.
SuspiciousShock8294@reddit
Oh. I know. I did buy bacon a couple of times in Migros or Kipa. It was equally expensive as it was bad. And i too enjoyed communicating with educated people in Turkey, as well. The only two real friends i made there were two guys who were doctors, for some reason. And i had some great kokard buddies, but sadly didn't get to spend much time with them. And i can say i met a few polite hotel owners and managers. Sad to admit most other people, i wouldn't call "scholars" but i had a few guys i played football with, so all in all again "no beef" with Turkey. One of the most beautiful countries i have seen.
HorrorsPersistSoDoI@reddit
Turkey is the best, agree
SuspiciousShock8294@reddit
Weeell... The best is a bit pushing it. I prefer other places better to be honest. But every country has + and - things about it. The country is stunningly beautiful. Kappadokya was my favorite trip of all time. The cuisine, the history, you could go on really.
But without trying to be condescending, i found that i mostly could hang with urban and educated people. Never really connected to everyone there so easily.
But then again, maybe i was the problem. As one should look at all the contributing factor.
HorrorsPersistSoDoI@reddit
Oh my God dude, I was just complimenting Turkey in our conversation, it's not like I worship them

My thoughts every time they bring up hatred for Macedonians, as in they don't want to be a part of Bulgaria:
MFers, no one wants to be a part of Bulgaria, not even most Bulgarians🙈
determine96@reddit
Surprisingly I have seen only Macedonians (some) saying that Bulgaria should have joined Yugoslavia, because it would have been counterweight to a Serbian hegemony and the union wouldn't have collapsed in a war.
But I think this is bullshit..
Probably the war would have been bigger and Bulgaria would have attacked Macedonia lol

As somebody who was born after the collapse of Yugoslavia (mid-90s) and have a negative view of Yugoslavia I think that only chance that Yugoslavia could have existed as state was that it was confederation then federation. Samuel Huntington's "Clash of Civilizations" was a textbook case why Yugoslavia failed as unified state (too similar and too different) for it to work in the longtime. Also the Albanian question was a hot topic in Yugoslav circles since their relations with Albania were at most times hostile and were seen as unable to come to term to solution that would benefit both sides. I think that the same principle could by applied to current situation in Bosnia & Herzegovina which suffers from the same problems that Yugoslavia did (even worse in my opinion), this could be a great example to reform Bosnia & Herzegovina as a confederation or risk it's dissolution violently in the near future...

With Serbs, no. Without, yes.
Unable-Stay-6478@reddit
Don't be salty. If we endured your genocide and then went on to form a common state with you—even with a president who was Croatian—then surely you can show some compassion too.
bro_im_done@reddit
I am not salty, you are talking to a liberal person who is highly yugo nostalgic. But facts are facts. Serbia, Serbs and even progressive Serbs have strong nationalistic tendencies, which were in big measure the reason Yugoslavia was disbanded in war. No other country has this amount of myth integrated as history or fact, and your education is basically a propagandistic machinery for keeping Sebs uneducated and loyal nationalistic voters. Voices talking about this matter from your side are minimal, like prof Stojanovic, but reality is, it is a problem and impossibility to have a normal life with Serbs who look at most things if not everything in this regard through the nationalosti lense (even your reply to me was nationalistic)
No-Lawfulness-699@reddit
Hm. You seem to be going back too much, you're kind of skipping something more recent that happened on your side.
Objectively speaking, the countries could unite without Serbia and would objectively work better without them.
Unable-Stay-6478@reddit
Hm, you kind of forgetting it's not only Serbs who were violent or with agenda.
No-Lawfulness-699@reddit
That's like saying the rest of Europe was violent towards the Germans while defending themselves.
This is exactly why it could never work.
If you asked other five countries which country would be the problem, every single country would say Serbia. Only Serbs make themselves eternal Martyrs and the dogooder, when in fact they're the aggressors.
Unable-Stay-6478@reddit
I didn't say Serbs weren't the aggressors. Brother in Christ, you attacked Bosnia as well, for the very same reasons as Serbs. Don't play senile.

And it's been many, many years since i stopped equating a certain (usually pseudo-ideollogical) political orientation of politicians with the inclinations to be corrupt. Most of them are greedy little pigs - left, right & centre.
Plastic_Ad_2424@reddit
Ohh no doubt.
Ok-Syllabub-6619@reddit
There is no way to make a system where punishing the undeserving who abuse the system, doesn't end without the deserving suffering too.
It's proven that when everyone gets help, there is more positives ie more of those helped give more to the system than the few who abuse it, so I don't understand the sentiment of "let's change the system and fuck everyone cuz the few are getting something out of it without giving into it"
The amount of money those few at the bottom get out of cheating the system is so miniscule that it's laughable, but the amount those at the top take from everyone is very different, and the thing we all feel.
Helping those in need should never be the opposite of punishing those who don't. Those are separate things but our way of sensationalist type of journalism has gone too much into propaganda and negativity, sowing seeds of doubt and fear.
Unfortunately we're attacked from all sides by influences that want us to think bad about our neighbors, I hope it's not too late but it feels like WW3 in it's last phase of preparation, before it's all out and everyone knows it is begun. (Doesn't help billionaires are building bunkers the last decade)

Unable-Stay-6478@reddit
Of course it would. We just need to get rid of the people who think Yugoslavia is/wad bad.
Names-Are-Confusing@reddit
So, 70% of Croatians lol?
Unable-Stay-6478@reddit
Yes.
Names-Are-Confusing@reddit
Then, Yugoslavia doesn’t make sense. I mean nothing’s stopping Serbs, Bosnians, Montenegrins and Macedonians from uniting - if you’re so Yugonostalgic, why don’t you do it? You’re not in the EU neither, I don’t get why you need Croatia and Slovenia so badly. Oh, probably because Croatia is the biggest and Slovenia is 3rd biggest(used to be 2nd) contributor to its GDP.
Unable-Stay-6478@reddit
The irony is calling others dependent while flexing EU membership... and If everything is peachy now in Croatia, why do you experience larger brain drain than Serbia, for example?
Yugoslavia didn’t exist because some countries ‘needed’ others’ GDP, it existed because of history, geography and politics.
Names-Are-Confusing@reddit
You still didn’t tell me why don’t Bosnians, Serbs and Macedonians unite if you want Yugoslavia back so badly.
Unable-Stay-6478@reddit
It would require massive political agreement and constitutional changes. And we all know how 'good' our governments are.
And Yugonostalgia doesn’t mean people literally want the country back. For most people it's usually emotional or cultural—not a real political movement.

I'm just saying personally I wouldn't really have anything against that, but it's not like it's my desire or similar. Never thought about it before I read this question.
I guess what I'm trying to say if I HAD to unite with any country, and I had a choice, it would be Slovenia, no other ex you country. Not even close.

Me being me, can't help to rile them up no matter where I go lol. I'd say when it comes to the Balkans you have generally pretty much two stereotypes..hillbillys and chess players, farmers and corporate people and so on.

True. As a fellow atheist, I agree.
Substratas@reddit

No-Lawfulness-699@reddit

If there was unification between Slovenia and Croatia it would benefit both countries economically. We're almost exactly the same now in terms of economical power, yet we are larger.
I don't know if you're misunderstanding what I'm saying. I'm not saying that there is any desire/wish on a Croatian side to unify, this is completely hypothetical.
Overwhelming majority of Croatians probably would not want to unite, as probably a majority of Slovenians wouldn't either, I'm simply saying that on paper it would benefit both countries, that's all.

No, because it is not possible. But i wouldn't mind seeing some more neighbourly initiatives, in the future. But a lot of people need to die out naturally for better cooperation between the ex-Yu countries.
Personally i have friends and pleasant relations with people everywhere, but i get that there are some who don't share my pov. And that is perfectly fine.
What i would like to see is a stronger youth involvement in all the environments... Something like the kids in Serbia are doing. The youth should take over their futures.
And after they clean up the mess of the fat, corrupt pigs that we all have now, those kids can start to build more friendly relations and start to bring initiatives that should bring us all back closer... Up to a degree that is suitable for everyone, of course.
Having a weak and divided region as it has been for decades, works for everyone but for the people that are part of it, i think.

The interesting about my studies on Yugoslavia, is that every person who played a major role in the destruction all wanted Yugoslavia to survive in way or another. Even Tudjman at first supported a confederation. Even Izetbegović had once said that Yugoslavia would have survived had the country listened to (or bad a few more leaders like) Kučan and Gligorov. It's a very interesting topic.
cesam1ne@reddit
Hell no
fickogames123@reddit
If it was really united, no doubt. Just from economic leverage alone, as a block, it would be more powerful and could force EU and USA and China to bend.
In the game of capitalism, growth gives growth, and a united Yugoslavia has better economic potential than most other regions. Breadbasket of Vojvodina, material richness of Southern Serbia, Yugoslavia, education and skills of Croatia and Slovenia, quite literally would be the strongest European country in few years... again... if united. It would be trivially easy to go back to 90s wars
dpenchev@reddit

Reading the comments really shows how out of touch people from the Balkans are in relation to this topic.
I don’t know if you lack the back education? Or just so ethnocentric that you believe everything you were spoon fed in school or by the church.
When will people understand that ethnic cleansing, slavism of local populations will not achieve colonial goals and long term prosperity.
I wait for the day for an intelligent conversation.
Names-Are-Confusing@reddit
Absolutely not. Croatia, 2nd biggest country, 2nd biggest population and the biggest economy would not want it, Slovenes are 50/50 apparently(by polls at least), others probably would. But if Croats don’t want it and they would contribute the highest GDP, 2nd highest population and a necessarry land area to connect Slovenia and the rest, what’s the point? Would never work. I honestly doubt most Slovenes would want it back. Non-EU ex-Yugo countries can unite all they want since they’re so Yugonostalgic though, why not?
ItsmeLuka@reddit
While I am Jugonostalgic and belive in brotherhood and unity, I belive it should stay the way it is. We had our chance and we blew it. We still have lingering hatered towards our neighbours and the same politicans are still in power that fueld that hatred. Maybe in the future when all the politicans that were in power die out and we replace them with progressive young minds that can see past the hatred and work towards the same goal in the future. And honest I dont see that happening.
ProductOfSight@reddit
I think a federation in 40-80 years is definebtly possible and if there enough of us left we might be a european power on par with others.
Names-Are-Confusing@reddit
Won’t happen. Lol.
No-Lawfulness-699@reddit
I think that is correct for the Serbian side, not as much for the other countries.
Other countries do not have politicians empower who were part of the radical side. That is accurate for Serbia not for other countries.
m1lam@reddit
True but there's hatred anyway on all sides. Give it another 50 years at least and maybe we'll see another attempt (though I still wouldn't count on it).
CreBanana0@reddit
How about Yugoslavia without Serbia?
m1lam@reddit
Would work probably tbh just because the vast majority would be Catholic so less religious tension
CreBanana0@reddit
Religion is completely irrelevant to the equation.
No-Lawfulness-699@reddit
You couldn't be more wrong, religion is an ENORMOUS factor here.
I am personally an atheist, but all the right wing nationalists on either side are religious or at least use religious dogma to guide them in their political views, so no you're a dead wrong, religion is a huge Factor.
shogunlazo@reddit
religion didnt play a role in the brake up, ethnicity did
No-Lawfulness-699@reddit
Yeah, NO. Religion played a very big part
CreBanana0@reddit
The right wing nationalists would never support unification anyway.
No-Lawfulness-699@reddit
That is correct.
Also other than maybe Serbia, most of other countries would not want to reunite, certainly not if Serbia is there, and by that I don't mean only Croatia.
No-Lawfulness-699@reddit
While that would certainly make other nations get along, I don't think CRO and Slovenia would want to do that, simply from an economical standpoint.
No-Lawfulness-699@reddit
Maybe in 50 years, one would hope. The e problem is also The Serbian mentality, overall. Even people who are more progressive, more on the left, who are generally more intelligent, more logical and rational, when you mention war between Serbia and Croatia they all get a collective amnesia and resort to all sorts of different spins of what happened, and why it happened. Even the progressive left in Serbia right now is not too friendly to CRO, perhaps they don't want to be in war again with us or attack us like they did before, but they are still not even close to what would be a progressive left in Croatia or other European countries.
Sorry I'm using voice recognition and I'm not gonna go back to correct any mistakes, I'm just a bit lazier right now.
m1lam@reddit
I agree definitely that we Serbs are the main problem in this scenario but as you said the only ones who would hope for reunion have left/are leaving. Maybe one day, God willing
No-Lawfulness-699@reddit
Yes it's true, and as a Croatian, I simply wouldn't want to deal with that. In Serbia, to large of a percentage of the population has a very dangerous, aggressive mentality, something similar to Russians. I'm not trying to shit on you, just telling you how most of us feel, even those of us who are very progressive and liberal.
Also, for us Croatians, economically just doesn't make any sense, whereas it makes sense to unite with Slovenia, both economically and mentality wise.
Best we can hope for is that you get rid of the right wing authoritarian, and hopefully slowly start moving more towards the democracy rather than what you have right now. Or rather, what you've kind of had for the last 35 or so years with a very brief period of light shall we say.
Crossing our fingers for you guys from Croatia, although right now the tensions are the highest they've been in a very long time due to incoherent and yet again aggressive statements from your current president.

Just deport the nationalists, and we would naturally merge back. Big unified county good, small schizophrenic micronations bad

let that thought sit for 30 years first

Yes, but only under communism

Yes. (Answer unrelated).
Blue_7C4@reddit
No, fuck Yugoslavia.
No-Lawfulness-699@reddit
Perhaps if it consisted of five countries and it excluded Serbia.
I could see everybody getting along if the Serbs were not in the mix. They, unfortunately, as a whole are the most extreme, the most aggressive, and want everything to be the way they see it fit, whereas other countries, I could see it actually all coming to one decision together, without any expansion ambitions.
But to answer the question, at this point, NO, I don't think that's possible in any way shape or form. Especially because Slovenia and Croatia are in the European Union, and our realistically at least 20 years ahead of other countries that were part of Yugoslavia. When you drive and cross the border from Slovenia or Croatia into any of the other countries, there's a an immediate change and you can see it as soon as you cross the border.
Neither of the two would ever want to go back either economically or in any other way.
If Slovenia and Croatia would unite, they would certainly be stronger, but there's no will on either side, politically or otherwise to do that. I mean ,that would be one beautiful country, stunning. Uou would have the beautiful Mediterranean and the Alps in one country, which Slovenia kind of has, but not really.
You could have the germanic mentality and sense of order from Slovenians combined with the Mediterranean mentality of the Croatian coast.
That is not happening, not ever, I've actually never ever heard anybody say anything about that, I myself never thought about it, until I read this question, so the final answer is NO.
Just the make things clear, I personally wouldn't have anything against Croatians and Slovenians uniting, but I just don't see that ever happening.

Yugoslavia was a fucking disaster so now we have retarded redditors making this question every day?

What way would this new Yugoslavia manifest itself? Is the question supposing that the war never happened or that it happened but now we're going to try Yugoslavia again for a third time?

Country, which international relevance layed on continuation of east - west split. Whose economy was heavily subsidized by foreign currency brought by emigrant workforce. Country with heavily protected market which had a few dozen companies that could compete on international market.

We had 2 yugoslavia countries and none of them survive so why bother with 3'rd type of failure!?

Particular-Pass-4021@reddit
It could be better in theory if it was federative capitalistic Republic like Germany or US, but that communist shit couldn't ever work...
I was thinking about it few months ago imagine that potential if we actually were like that if Bavarians and North Germans could unite why couldn't we, it seems that kind of unification would be good for global leaders so we are where we are
Italians as well, they all united under one banner, they are still proud Neapolitans, Milanese etc. That's how could we coexist we all could be proud Yugoslavian, Croatian, Dalmatian all in one, but communism destroyed everything and on mention of Yugoslavia Im puking and it's shame...

Will you guys EVER shut the fuck up about this topic? It is posted EVERY single day. No, it would not be better.

No. I'd argue that the population of each of the 7 states that were part of Yugoslavia will benefit even more if their own states splits again multiple times.

Mobile-Recognition17@reddit
"would do better" is the broadest, most vague definition. So it depends what you mean by that, and also it depends on who you ask. There would always be a part of Yugoslavia that felt more segregated than others.
"Unity" is just an illusion when you have such different demographics under one rule. Just ask Americans...
Drafter1991@reddit
