Plane “names”

So I’m watching a show and this pulls up as b roll.
I mean yes!
Also the teams at airlines who comes up with names and gets them approved. Hats off to you.
Also I wonder if this flight serves it as a meal option. It would be great. ( I don’t do you get meals on JetBlue never flown em)
Own-Acanthisitta2460@reddit
I love how jetBlue does these! I saw Chicken Cordon Blue at DCA last month.
Canikfan434@reddit
JetBlue has named their airplanes for as long as I can remember. A lot of them are pretty clever!😂
gregla516@reddit
Not exactly what you want to see when your about to take off 😂😂😂 “hopelessly devoted to blue” was the full name
ComfortableBus7184@reddit
Another good JetBlue one is "Tangled up in Blue"
WickedRaccon@reddit
Corsairlfy (french airline) had a similar thing. They used to have 3 B747 registered SEA, SEX and SUN. Each had either a wave (SEA), a sun or a.... lipstick mark on them (yes, thankfully, SEX didn't have a giant dick painted on it).

Weird because Aer Lingus’ has one too and apparently Vueling “Since 2013, it has been an operating company of International Airlines Group, the parent company of British Airways, Iberia, and Aer Lingus.”

"How do you know this airline's company owner is British?"

JetBlue has a "Minty McMintface" at least.

Isn't it "Cordon Bleu?"

Yes, but in keeping with their “Blue” theme they made it “Cordon Blue”

Ohiolongboard@reddit
Another comment said they actually have employees submit ideas and when they win, they get a small model of the plane they named and a vacation voucher.
Forsaken-Builder-312@reddit
Ok now this is even wholesome! I love it
Bob70533457973917@reddit
Also, unless I'm mis-remembering, I believe JetBlue is employee-owned. So they all enjoy the success of their airline.
pickle_pickled@reddit
It's supposed to be "new phone" implying that the person receiving the message has the same phone number but lost all their contacts, and the sender still had the right number to message.
New number would mean the sender no longer has the right number to contact the person unless they gave it to them directly.

That's great but definitely takes a bit of cultural background to get,
For non Spanish speakers, it means fast/quick/rapid sandal. And basically from the idea that Latina mothers are able to have insane aim and hit a child with their sandal from any point in the house.

I always wanted Blue Job but don’t think it will get accepted

Same with Blue Balls. It could be a plane with flights that keep getting rescheduled before being cancelled outright.

They have any planes that seat 1000?
hbk409@reddit
This is true. I retired from them in 2020(thanks Covid). I was there for 10 years and in that span I named two planes, Blue State of Mind(N375JB) and Menta-licious(N988JT). Got a model of the plane with the name on it for both. For N375JB, I also received a $1,000 vacations voucher.
sourcefourmini@reddit
That's so cool! Out of curiosity, were they generally pretty good as an employer? Or did the tantalizing offer of a free plane model and a potential voucher cover for the work environment?
Flo-Rida13@reddit
They are actually really good with their employees. They also have third parties at airports but mostly amazing dedicated employees. There is a good culture there
hbk409@reddit
I worked Ground Ops out of JFK, their main focus city(hub). They didn't have the highest pay scale for an airline, but I felt they genuinely cared about their employees. One of their values was fun and at least at JFK when I was there, we always had something going on. Parties for all the holidays, bake sales, with raffle prizes, on hot days in the summer the would have Mister Softee come on the ramp and it was open to everyone, the ability to trade shifts up until your start time. This is to name a few things. I currently work for another airline and while the pay is better, the work rules and overall moral of the employees is far below what it was at jetblue.
herladyshipssoap@reddit
I was there for 3 years in the office. DIdn't name any planes though.
Davido401@reddit
I mean, that would be fine for me! And I can't even drive an airplane! (Ma step-bro-in-law can though, hes with that awful Jet2 advert mob, I think, or Easy Jet... he flies 737s! Its also 3.40am here in Scotland so if hes not working he'll be sleeping which a should be doing!)

Icelandair names their planes after volcanos. I have had the pleasure of flying on Eyjafjallajökull
DutchBlob@reddit
Imagine having to spell that to ATC using the NATO alphabet
obscure_monke@reddit
What's ö in the nato alphabet?
Ökopunkt?
BigBlueBurd@reddit
First of all, it's the ICAO Phonetic Alphabet, not NATO.
Secondly, it doesn't exist. Phonetic spelling assumes all caps, standard Latin characters only. Thankfully there are standard transliterations for special characters like Ö. Namely, OE. See also: Ä = AE, ß = SS, etc.
DutchBlob@reddit
First of all, it’s the International Radiotelephony Spelling Alphabet
thegayquadzilla@reddit
The planes still have registration names. For example the plane I flew on is TF-FIV officially

Spirit of America, Spirit of Arizona, Spirit of New York, Spirit of Indiana, Spirit of Ohio, Spirit of Mississippi, Spirit of Texas, Spirit of Missouri, Spirit of California, Spirit of South Carolina, Spirit of Washington, Spirit of Kansas (crashed), Spirit of Nebraska, Spirit of Georgia, Spirit of Alaska, Spirit of Hawaii (crashed), Spirit of Florida, Spirit of Oklahoma, Spirit of Kitty Hawk, Spirit of Pennsylvania, Spirit of Louisiana.
aviator_jakubz@reddit
The joke i heard is that original order was for something like 100 aircraft. However, the USAF stopped at 21 because they ran out of spirits (rum, vodka, gin, brandy, whiskey, etc...) to name the aircraft after.
Pipe_Mountain@reddit
Don't understand why they put the 'crashed' in the. name after Hawaii and Kansas, seems like they were just asking for them to have an accident.
