Why aren’t these available in the USA??? I just got back from Guadalajara, and these reminded me of the old Sidekick. Saw both 2 and 4 doors driving around.
Daph@reddit
They used to be available in the USA a long time ago as the "Samurai"
Arch-by-the-way@reddit
And no one bought them. But we’re blaming lobbyists I guess.
im_failing_chemistry@reddit
Nobody bought then because jeep lied about them.
Drzhivago138@reddit
Consumer Reports aside, they wouldn't meet modern safety or emissions regs in the US.
im_failing_chemistry@reddit
Yeah but the new ones could I'm sure of it. If we can have smart cars we can have the Suzukis. How much emissions does a 1.3L or a 600cc motor put out anyways?
Apple_Slipper@reddit
Cursed Consumer Reports…
KinkyMonitorLizard@reddit
we're blaming them for not being able to buy them now.
Arch-by-the-way@reddit
And that’s dumb because lobbying has nothing to do with companies knowing Americans don’t buy these
Apple_Slipper@reddit
Also known as the Geo Tracker or Suzuki Sidekick there.
Ibuilds@reddit
Sidekick and Tracker are called Vitara in the rest of the world. The Suzuki Vitara is still made and is similar to a Rav4
Ileana_llama@reddit
i live in mexico and hate this things going 70km/h on the highway when the limit is 110 😅😅
hungryhummushead@reddit
Like many here I so badly want one of these in the US. This would be the perfect car for here in Philly, shit roads, tight roads, and a little car that can park anywhere.
JustAtelephonePole@reddit
That’s my next vehicle, assuming the USA ever partakes in the futuristic present of other nations’ automotive offerings.
neanderthalensis@reddit
I wish Suzuki would assemble these in Mexico so I could buy one in the US
peacenchemicals@reddit
i want one so bad!!
mcard7@reddit
Me too. I’ve wanted a amigo or a samurai since high school.
-HEF-@reddit
i haven't spoken about my Amigo in decades but it came up last night in a bar conversation. it was def one of my fav vehicles. '98, red, stick, V6.
mcard7@reddit
Of course stick, but navy with the top down in Utah mountains in the summer time. Rolling through the days listening to music and camping at night with friends drinking around a campfire in some random mountain peak.
Lake Powell, watching summer volleyball, rugby league.
My favorite summer boyfriend had one at the time and like a bad teenage movie I’d fall for him every summer and break my heart every fall when I had to move back to my normal life.
So much fun but I loved driving that stick all summer while he was working at the mountain.
Plot twist: The teenage love story was with the car, not the boy.

The US automakers couldn't compete with cheaper gray market sales, you know due to being shit, so they bribed the government to block them for 25 years.
Drzhivago138@reddit
Ackshually, the 25-year rule was lobbied for by Mercedes dealers in the US, not the Big 3. They didn't like that people were gray market importing Benzes optioned in ways other than MBUSA would sell them.
StandupJetskier@reddit
The grey cars were CHEAPER.....MB USA was charging a lot more for the same cars.....
JIsADev@reddit
small vehicles don't sell anymore
coatingtonburlfactry@reddit
They look like a baby G Wagon!
Iliveatnight@reddit
Suzuki stopped selling cars in the US in 2012
Apple_Slipper@reddit
Both the Jimny and the Swift are the bestsellers for Suzuki in Australia. One of my neighbour’s babysitters drives a custom Suzuki Jimny.
Drzhivago138@reddit
Suzuki pulled out of the US market over 15 years ago, friend. They couldn't keep the lights on.
Safar1Man@reddit
They're everywhere in Australia. Sick little fourbys
Ladiesman104@reddit
Tons over here in Malaysia. How’s the interior? I hear it’s quite basic?
Ignorhymus@reddit
Mine has absolutely no features. And no screen. And the 3 door is absolutely tiny inside. And we love it
wtf-m8@reddit
Full review here, interior bit starts around 4:51.
beaueod@reddit
Lots of them in Italy
Bad_Edditor8910@reddit
Quite popular in India, parts of Africa and the GCC. It's pretty slow and kinda noisy so if it's annoying to drive on Saudi Arabian highways, I cannot imagine it to be any better in the US.
CDNChaoZ@reddit
Mostly emissions and safety rules. Rules lobbied for by the Big 3. Plus it doesn't help that Suzuki pulled out of the US and Canada.
