Do I need approval to keep a moving container overnight on street? (Plano, TX)

Quick question — does anyone know if I need a permit/approval to place a moving container (like U-Pack ReloCube or POD) on public street parking in Plano for just 1 night?
If yes, who do I contact and how long does it take?
Need to figure this out urgently — thanks! 🙏

WHAT IS IN THAT CONTAINER?! SHOULD WE CALL POLICE?!

From a permit technician, you do need a permit.
Contact Public Works.

Subject line: ROW Permit request (your address) Body: We are having a moving container parked on the street overnight and wanted to verify if a permit was required. The container is roughly (size).
This should satisfy them. :)

I had to have one and contacted the city with questions last year. I was told that the city does not allow the moving containers to be placed on the public street at all and that there is no permit availible under any circumstances ever. They also helpfuly told me that on residential streets plano pd is not looking for illegally placed moving containers and that they will not issue a citation unless it blocks traffic or someone calls to complain at which time they will give 24 hours to have it moved. So not allowed but you might be able to get away with doing it anyway. For myselfni had mine placed in my driveway, but I have seen a few of my neighbors put them in the street without any issues.

Can’t speak for Plano but I know it’s not legal in Dallas.

Most likely yes, you’ll be blocking a lane on a public road.

How is it different from parking a car or a trailer in the same place overnight?
zatchstar@reddit
Idk. Probably if it is bigger than a standard car width (~9’) then you may need a permit

If it's a 5' x 10' you should be ok, but most likely not with the 10' x 10'/10' x 15. Not certain of any of it though.

Visibility, Inability to move in an emergency, possibility for entrapment, attracting animals, etc etc. Same reason many aren't allowed to keep trailers, boats etc on the street.
I'd encourage them to deliver it to the driveway where possible

Go to city of plano website and do a search

Just get the container dropped off on Friday. Then you won’t have to worry because the city is closed on weekends
