Living in London is mega expensive. What are the places in outskirts/closeby which are affordable and nice.
Turnbridge wells is one that comes up but any others?

Calais.

Chelmsford and billericay

Chelmsford rather than Billericay.

What's your budget - for (a) housing and (b) commuting cost?
Without knowing that it's difficult to answer other than in really broad terms
Lolabird2112@reddit
The problem is the cost of commuting often negates any savings you’d make from rent and just add more time and stress.

Nowhere

Turnbridge wells = affordable? lol!
If you want to be Tunbridge Wells adjacent but want to spend 30% less on a property, pop six miles south and look at Crowborough. It's surrounded by the Ashdown Forest and still has plenty of snooty people if you're after that TB Wells vibe but you can buy a 3bed for less than half a mill.

Word of warning, the asylum seekers army camp is near Crowborough, so quite a few protestors around
bloomsburysquare@reddit
I came here to say this. Tunbridge Wells is lovely but it's something like the second most expensive town in Kent after sevenoaks or something along those lines. Your suggestions of being a little outside, like crowborough, are good.

You can pick any two of affordable, nice and close to London. You can’t have all three.
Stratospheric-Ferret@reddit
Unless you're wealthy, this is the only answer.
tepig37@reddit
I mean wealthy people arent technically buying/renting affordability properties.
Stratospheric-Ferret@reddit
Whilst you're right in reading what I've said, it was aimed at the OP who wants all three. So my answer was "unless you're wealthy" then you need to rethink.
kalendral_42@reddit
Or unless you’re willing to commute a bit further- some nice villages/towns down towards Wiltshire/Oxford/Cotswolds area but would mean a short(ish) commute (about an hr-1.5 hrs by train)
drplokta@reddit
Then you’re picking affordable and nice, but not neat London.

Rochester is nice. Some beautiful Georgian housing.
Surrounding areas less so.
It’s 35 mins into at Pancras / 45 mins to Victoria
ProfessionalEven296@reddit
Bedford. Sister lives there, and (when needed) can commute to London. Milton Keynes is very close also, in case a job change is needed.
skibbin@reddit
If there were such a place, 10 million people would try to move there

It really depends what you mean by “close” and “affordable”?
All of the following are nice and around 30-40 mins to Waterloo and are cheaper than London if that’s the bar for affordable:
GargleHemlock@reddit
Billericay is pretty nice. It's a bit dull, but it's got a pretty good high street and is a 20 min train ride to London/Liverpool Street station. Definitely cheaper than London.
Professional-Put4394@reddit
Sutton/cheam is actually in London, but quite green. Further out Redhill, Crawley are most affordable, or Reigate/Dorking if your want to go upmarket.
Sadie_UK@reddit
I was about to suggest Surrey/Hampshire, but can you define 'affordable' first? LOL
wombat_00@reddit
Also define "close" to London.

Everyone's description of affordable and nice is different.
Name some places you like. Say what kind of budget you are thinking about.

I'll bet you've not looked in south east London.
