Slightly different - guys with land, where are you buying steel targets?

buddy owns a farm thats pretty large, we'll shoot cans and shit on his property at 25-50 yards but its never been much more structured than that, been itching to break my AR10 out some more though since there really arent any decent distance ranges here, and hes got a good 500yds of safely shootable, open terrain. Asked if hed mind if i bought some steel targets to set up and he said go for it.
So. What's worth buying? Largest caliber shot is 168gr 308 out of a 20", big stockpile of Speer LE Gold's/Soft Tips, so my understanding is any 3/8 inch AR500 steel target should catch that just fine, maybe respray it with paint on occasion.
If say I wanted to put up a target per 100 yds, stuff i shouldnt need to manually walk out and set back up, and try to keep the cost as low as reasonable, whats the consensus?
Picked up a 6 inch gong target from Rural King and it seems to work great, but that was $45 with stand. I'm seeing popper/springer targets on amazon for roughly the same price, with some wild fluctuations. LGS's online shop shows Springer targets for $23, eternally sold out.
So what am I looking for brand wise?

I've ordered from them two or three times. They're legit!
Benza009@reddit
Thanks for the recommendation! Just ordered some stuff from them, excited to see how they pan out
Crayon_Eating_Grunt@reddit
I just got a 12x20 and a t-post hanger. We'll see what happens.
REMINGTONMODEL81912@reddit
i build my own out of scrap. Ones that are easy to set up and tear down its way cheaper than buying them.
HonorableAssassins@reddit (OP)
Sounds about right
REMINGTONMODEL81912@reddit
I will say that you will get a better target buying them. I just don’t want to spend the money on something i could build but they don’t last long lol

We have some really innovative hanging solutions, plus we are 100% american made. Check us out at athenatargets.com

I grabbed a silhouette from them, just hasnt arrived yet and i wanted some feedback before dumping hundreds into the brand
imonyourcouch@reddit
I have bought some from ebay. Made a hanger to hang them on old tposts.
Stratbasher_@reddit
I've got some dragon targets. No ar550 so don't shoot short range, but they're the cheapest I've found, especially for half inch.

Walmart sells steel targets?
0neMoreGun@reddit
Don’t buy the Champion ones! 5.56 pokes holes clean through them
DjangoSucka@reddit
Yep! I’m a few sizes too.

If you want to save some money go around your local mechanic(s) and ask for old brake rotors.

many moons ago i bought some from blue steel targets. other than that one time i was a dumbass and shot it with a 204 ruger way closer than i should have, theyve held up phenomenally. i havent price compared in a while, but back then they were the cheapest i found for large rifle rated targets. they dont spend much(any?) money on advertising but theyre legit.

Beautiful to hear
-UserOfNames@reddit
Get AR500 steel and make sure to angle it down so splatter deflects into the ground. If you start getting craters in the plate, you are too close for the ammo being used.
Highwild has a lot of options for targets and mounts. https://www.highwildoutdoors.com
Superb-Detective-838@reddit
A lot of good deals on ETSY. Just confirm with the seller that they are AR500 steel.
TheVillagePoPTart@reddit
Look on r/gundeals as they come up here and there. There will probably be an Easter sale on one of the steel target web stores.
HonorableAssassins@reddit (OP)
Thats a good idea actually, hadnt thought of that
TheVillagePoPTart@reddit
Also, using gold dots as range ammo is wild. The only people I know who do that work LE jobs and get it from work.
HonorableAssassins@reddit (OP)
Literally the cheapest 168 grain available online
Apparently discontinued now, but $25 a box in a world where everything else is like 30
Blunter98@reddit
Theres quite a bit of 168gr 308 for cheaper than that on ammoseek. Unless you want to spend on Speer for range ammo.
HonorableAssassins@reddit (OP)
Was on ammoseek earlier today looking and sword the lowest it was showing me was like $27, but checked again and sure enough youre right. Weird. Must notve filtered it properly.
That said, the vast majority of the speer ive shot i bought months ago on sale and in bulk for a good deal cheaper so im not too too concerned about it.
HonorableAssassins@reddit (OP)
And by all accounts/research i did prior to purchasing the SFAR i rock doesnt tend to like ammo lighter than 168
Goin on 1000 rounds through it and not one malfunction so ive been pretty damn happy with the speers lmao, dunno what brand ill go to when my last 200 run.
Blunter98@reddit
I got some T Posts and used TA Targets T post steel target mount. Easy to set up and they have a good down angle to them, look clean too. Also bought from shootsteel.com.
spinonesarethebest@reddit
Two of my friends own JC Steel (Jake Vibbert) and DM Targets (Seth Hardner). Solid stuff. I have steel from both of them. Have you thought about moving targets? Contact Carl Taylor at In-Motion Targets.
906Dude@reddit
I like shootsteel.com. The owner is a shooter and eats his own dogfood, so to speak. My friend and I have been happy with our plates and stands that we bought. They have a nice selection of targets, including up to 3/4" thick ones for 50 BMG. Hah! I can only imagine having to lug a 3/4-inch plate from car. LOL. I just have their regular, 3/8" that I use for handgun shooting.
HonorableAssassins@reddit (OP)
Fun analogy lmao, good shit
Typethreefun@reddit
I have a bunch of targets from Shootingtargets7. They sell a kit for hanging gongs from a pair of t-posts. I like their stuff. Also have a few cheap gongs from rural king. No complaints.
HonorableAssassins@reddit (OP)
Glad to hear the RK isnt famously terrible or anything
Nervous_Maize_5281@reddit
I buy most of mine from dragon targets.

https://shootsteel.com/ has treated me very well. Shop the sales.
