Unfortunately, and I can attest to this with quite a degree of confidence, you're asking individuals to do the right thing, but 90% of them out there just don't give a shit. Look at any rest area, you'll see dozens of piss bottles scattered around.

It's an unfortunate truth, but the truth nonetheless ... the majority of truckers out there are shameless, self-centered, arrogant and uncaring assholes. They know it, the rest of us who try and do the right thing know it, and it's always been that way.

I, for one, am sorry you have to deal with crap like this (both figuratively and metaphorically)

One time at the sapp bros in Denver I was walking between trucks at night to go use the restroom myself, and I ended up stepping in someone’s shit bag that was hidden in the darkness. Got shit all on the bottom of my shoe. Thankfully I was able to easily convince one of the workers at the truck wash there to spray down my shoe, and he even went the extra mile and took the soap scrubber to it to make sure it was completely clean. Ever since then I don’t walk between trucks at night anymore and will take the long way around. At least I can say I’m getting my steps in😂

Had a truck stopped by the curb of a business overnight. It's all warehouses where I work, so there's roads, curbs, grass, and parking lots. Truck parked on the main roadway and left a big black trash bag filled with Walmart bags full of human waste. Left it wide open. Just sitting on the curb in front of the business' front doors. I walked over to see if I should grab it so it didnt blow into the yard where I work, but it's filled with poop and toilet paper, so it sat there.

I completely agree. Most shippers don’t offer a bathroom for us to use, and it’s common to be waiting at one for hours and hours on end. Not to mention having to rely on truck stops or rest stations when rolling over the interstate. There are some spots where there are literally hundreds of miles in between where we can stop. I agree completely that pee and poo is gross. That's exactly why I dump my little pee pail when no one is watching, preferably in the dark. My method of managing my waste disturbs nobody. I think it's gross and disrespectful to truck stop employees to toss a full bottle in the trash. Liquid is heavy and those caps can come loose and spill out. When I dump it in the ground it is gone and no one has to look at it or smell it ever again. That's being responsible and respectful of others.

That four wheeler doesn't usually face the time constraints or loss of income that come with this job. Most drivers get paid by the mile. Then there is the fact those four wheelers can pull off most exits and find a restroom with ease. Gas stations, grocery stores, Walmarts and Targets and the like. These are all easily accessible, and designed for this sized traffic. Truck drivers can be stuck going a hundred miles or more between stops that are accessible for trucks.

The 4 wheelers have also figured out how to park in truck spots, blocking us from being able to find safe parking for our BIG trucks.

We're not allowed to enter many small towns in my country because we'd simply wreck the infrastructure, we're not allowed to park at most stores like walmart, we're not able to park in the grass without risking needing a heavy wrecker, and there is a WORLDWIDE shortage of truck parking spots. Every single country is facing these issues.

I'm extremely lucky that I only drive local, and I can always go to the restroom at a customer, but even I have had very close encounters because you can get stuck in traffic for hours, without any big parking spots in sight, with a clock that's running out and suddenly you're risking a €4000 fine just to go pee. You can receive that fine for 52 days after committing the crime of going a few minutes over your drivetime in Europe.

Ps. The amount of 4 wheelers that I've seen pull over onto the shoulder real quick to go pee in the grass is astronomical. You guys just don't see them because they're hidden by other 4 wheelers/trucks but we can see right over everyone at those dingdongs.

Yeah... unfortunately anyone reading this that cares is already doing the right thing and dumping them in the grass or whatever before tossing the bottles in the trash or using a large dumpster at a rest area, etc. Unfortunately, some of these drivers are inconsiderate, assholes and don't have common sense, common decency or any bit of respect. Best thing you can do is, if seeing the drivers do it, ask them to dump the bottles first because it's heavy and you struggle with it, etc. Just as you did here, maybe if it's face to face, they will actually care and unfuck themselves. Also, maybe you can have a chat with your coworkers and all of you start double bagging the cans? If it seems light, just pull the inner bag and replace or if it seems a bit heavy, grab both and it'll add a bit of protection for ya.

An owner operator in Fort Stockton, TX once described to me how they spread a Walmart bag between the seats and sit with their butt spread over the opening to poop.

I don't know why he told me this, even weirder he had his son in the truck with him.

I was a little more.. advanced. I always double bagged and used a tractor supply $8 bucket and always threw away in dumpsters. (Both bags were drained of air, wrapped tight and double bagged then stored in a lid trashcan with removable bucket.)

Problem is, Love's doesn't use dumpsters, Pilot/Flying J typically locks theirs and so does QT.

Sometimes you gotta go, and some dickhead is watching ESPN in the stalls OR you're on a long haul and California has closed every rest area in the next 400 miles OR the shipper only has a porta potty, and I'm not sinking that low.

Proper etiquette is pissing in wiper fluid jugs and emptying them in the grass or down a drain, and when they do eventually get retired they get thrown away empty at the truck stop or thrown at shithead 4wheelers with the cap loosened if full (satire, mostly). As for shit, you're supposed to put cat litter in the heavy duty trash bag first and then do your business and when it's time to throw the bag away you take it out of the bucket, cinch it, squeeze the air out of it, and then put it inside another heavy duty trash bag before throwing it away.

At least then it's just heavy and stinks instead of getting shit and piss all over the poor folks that work at the truck stop.

As a driver myself I don’t much like people that do that either. Those driver tend to be the same one that just throw trash out on sides of the road where they park etc. It’s the reason a lot of places don’t allow truck parking anymore. I’m sorry you have to deal with that and I’m great full for y’all because you’re the reason we have clean restrooms and showers as well.

The fact that someone would defecate in a bag is diabolical, I'm sorry that this is a regular occurrence. As a trucker I regularly use bottles when I'm not near a restroom and try to spread the garbage I have over multiple can just cause I know and have seen how full the can get. I know that doesn't help but just know that some of us do think about others

Never in the trash cans, always in the dumpsters, and I always did my best to choose dumpsters that were away from the building out in the back of the parking lot so it wasn’t one that employees were walking up to all the time to throw away trash. It’s not hard to be considerate.

I'm just afraid that the people doing this aren't self-conscious enough that somebody else has to then take their trash out, or that they will not feel concerned by a reddit thread. The trucking industry really needs to address the issue that drivers have to piss and poo in their trucks, all day everyday. Why can’t they make trucks with some half ass bathroom accommodations. They do in RVs and super tiny RVs and truck campers. Why is this a problem that’s been fixed?!!

I always stack my piss bottles up in a trash bag and toss it in a dumpster at my OC at the end of the week. I also like to just dump my body armor bottles in the grass whenever I can to alleviate the weight of the bag. Sorry a lot of us aren’t as considerate.
