Singing isn't one of Renee's best talents, especially in a filmed musical like that. You get a sense of her abilities at the end of LYRE and her live performances with Lucy. I'm not judging by her duet with Joxer in COMEDY OF EROS, or doing the song Gabs made up about herself in FEMMES because she might've been off-key on purpose, for comedic effect.

Lucy did confirm that Renee was great with the choreography for dancing through! Lucy said that her and Ted would struggle to learn while Renee would be learning the choreography instantly

The tone, cadence, and pronunciation of some of the words. Kid me was suspicious of everyone singing on tv because of how bad the matching was.

If you listen to the Bitter Suite you can hear the transition between them because it's not blending together and they didn't get someone who would match the performance in either direction. If you look at how good dubs work it's a collaboration with both singer and actor.

Renee does some kind of growl thing when she emphasizes humor and a different one for anger. In the singing there's nothing like that. So it's too sweet a voice and doesn't act like Renee's voice in any single way.

I remember going to the "last" Xena convention in California (it was one after they wrapped filming the final season and the last episodes hadn't aired yet so we were all still optimistic!). Renee and Lucy sang a duet of "Last Dance (Last Chance)". Renee DEFINITELY can't sing.

I honestly didn’t know it was a different person until I had bought the soundtrack for this and it listed Nicastro as Callisto’s vocals. I was gobsmacked to say the least.
