I think Death Race, Rock And Roll High School, Eating Raoul, and European Vacation. To name some. Most of those also star Mary Woronov, and Steve Steele, as a radio DJ/announcer type ( Steele was an actual AM radio DJ in the L.A/ area, in the 60s/70s)

Piranha 1978. Caused me to lose my shit at summer camp when my friend unexpectedly decided to flip the canoe we were in.
The counselors screamed at me upon discovering I was fine. "Don't you ever, ever do that again! Why did you do that?"
I couldn't bring myself to admit that my mind immediately went to the summer camp scene in Piranha and my imagination got the better of me. 🤭
Now I see the movie for what it is: a silly Jaws spoof.

I had started a D&D club at the town library a few months before this came out. The librarian had been a big help in promoting it & after "Tom Hanks' Unforgivable Sin" came out, she was happy to stand up to the Town Council when they discussed the club during a meeting.
She explained (with stats even) how it had significantly increased the number of Jr. High & High School kids coming to the library and getting library cards, and how she had had to buy or borrow more Science Fiction & Fantasy books because the kids were actually checking them out & reading them (a Conan book may not have been a milestone in American literature, but they were like a gateway drug for getting more kids reading), so she was very happy to host the club, it gave kids something creative to do, and she was 100% behind it. I spoke too, just to debunk the Satanist thing & explain while it was hard to understand a game with no board, it was just a very complicated game of "Let's Pretend" with rules about what you could or couldn't do (plus I had a secret superpower - my Dad was the Town Manager, so the Council all knew me & that I was a good, church-going kid and top student, plus I babysat for a couple of them, so they genuinely were interested hearing what I had to say). The Council thanked us & after a short discussion basically said that if it gets kids reading & staying out of trouble, keep it up. The local paper ran a story about it & what was said at the meeting, and that was the end of the controversy. We had official small town approval now!
A few months after that, I designed a tournament dungeon & characters (uh, "taking a lot of inspiration" from various early modules), my friends pitched in as playtesters & editors, and the Library hosted the club's first D&D tournament, with an entry fee of One Dollar, cash money. We only had three prizes, and those were all just sets of dice the Library bought at the "local" wargame store about 40 miles away.
We were hoping for 25-30 people and got over 90 - the librarian grapevine was much larger than I knew. I drafted the whole club as emergency DMs since they all knew the dungeon from playtesting. The Librarian opened the other two conference rooms for more space, and we set up or used every table the library had (there was a D20 roll-off to decide who got to play on the short toddler-size table in the Kids' Section with the tiny chairs, and here I'd thought that would be the last pick!). The Librarian fired up the Xerox(tm) machine and printed additional copies of the dungeon (plus a bunch more, because we were selling copies for $3.50 once players had finished). The Librarian knew one of the reporters at the paper & made a call. The reporter showed up about halfway through, so we made the paper again. But this time with a very positive story about the club & tournament's success. We sold about 40 copies of the dungeon (Xerox machines were expensive to run back then, so the plan was always for the library to keep the sales & entry proceeds). A great time was had by all, we were happily exhausted, and it became the only day in its ~50-year history the library turned a profit. 😁
Fuck the haters, form ranks and press forward!
No_Parking_4195@reddit
I once had to explain to a news crew that nobody who played D&D believed they could cast a fireball and actually blow something up. And nobody thinks there are real dragons hiding in caves and hoarding gold. Normies are stupid.

Most of these listed are when I was well into adulthood which is really strange......... You say Forgotten movies of our GenX childhood is very different than the forgotten movies of most of the people in this group that are actually GenX..... We had Giant Robot 1967, Roots 1976, Legend of Bogey Creek 1972, We had Cybil 1976, We had Erasurehead 1977. There's clearly a 20 yr gap between some childhoods and other childhoods 😅🤣😆😆😆

Ok- looked it up. The actor is Michael O’Keefe. Two interesting facts. Apparently, it was called ‘Savage Islands’ in the UK (where I live now- grew up in the USA), and it also starred Jenny Seagrove, who was also in one of favourite forgotten film of the era, ‘Local Hero’.

Murder by Death also. The Big Bus- "watch out! He's got a candle!". Student Bodies- watching it with a date when it first came out and it turned out that my little sister was also there. I found that out when her & her friends stated throwing popcorn at us. She thought i was spying on her, I just wanted to maybe snuggle with my date. She couldn't explain how I was supposed to spy on her while sitting 4 rows in front of her. Fun times. At least she also thought it was funny.

Saw that because the line for ‘Return of the Jedi’ wound around the entire second floor of the Golden Ring Mall. It was a little underwhelming. Saw it again as an adult a few years back and it was ok. All the actors are game but the threadbare budget barely allows anything to happen. First twenty minutes are set in a convincing ‘space future;’ the rest is set at a quarry/rat rod event.

Gus, and some movie I can’t find that was a take on A Connecticut Yankee in King Arthur’s Court, except it utilized some space shuttle type thing that was the cause of the time shift.
Extra_Elevator9534@reddit
It was marketed under a few different names ... "A Spaceman in King Arthur's Court" was one of them. I think originally it was "Unidentified Flying Oddball."
(Edit: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Unidentified_Flying_Oddball .... yep. That was the first name.)
Fraggit ... U.F.O. was the first release name -- and there was a jingle embedded in the commercials. A cheezy jingle. I just awakened the neuron that stored it in my head. I thought I'd killed that neuron with alternating bleach and battery acid.
That was 1979. How did I remember that jingle?
SunshineAlways@reddit
As soon as I read the name, I heard the jingle. So weird the random stuff that is hidden in the little nooks and crannies of our brain.
borisdidnothingwrong@reddit
My grandma took 9 of her grandchildren to see this.
We all piled in the backseat of her Cadillac, except my older brother who as the first grandchild claimed "shotgun," happily singing "unidentified flying oddball" over and over and over again.
Grandma was a tad flustered and told my mom she never wanted to hear the song again.
Right then, an ad for the movie played on our TV.
Mom quickly turned it off, and grandma laughed a witchy cackle.

5th grade, 1978, in the auditorium, sitting on my butt on the wooden floor, thinking this was the best thing ever (after seeing Star Wars in the theater the year before, of course).

Oh my- they showed that to us in the gym at school when I was either kindergarten or first grade. Three of my friends and I were bawling and to this day I have no idea what they were thinking showing that to the littlest kids under the charge of sixth grade patrol kids. They were not ready to deal with us!!! It was a beautiful film and story- but that ending just layers the pain. His dogs in turn, then having to leave his grandpa behind and for what- to move to the town where the kids were already cruel and mean to him. It was sooo not fair!
