those are kind of rare nowadays
DrDan1966@reddit
One in Ashtabula, Ohio
buzzcollins@reddit
Looks way too much like an old Roy Rogers Roast Beef Restaurant sign.
Sassacatty@reddit
I loooooooove Arby’s!!
scully360@reddit
My hometown!!!
willfullyinert@reddit
Flint, MI has one on Dort Hwy like that. When they light it at night, it really brings back a lot of memories.
DickWhittingtonsCat@reddit
I pass them any time I drive more than 200 miles on a midwest highway it seems. Or maybe it’s the same stupid one on I80 and in Michigan I always pass. Impossible to say.
There is definitely one in Niles Illinois- I believe that was a Jack In the Box or adjacent to a Jack in the Box back in the early 1980s
I remember my grandmother telling me something about kangaroo meat- and I was a simple Iowa child although our home regions blight was only 10 years in- and I was wondering what the hell was going on here on the exotic Dempster Skokie-Niles- Glenview corridor
Brilliant-Deer6118@reddit
Plenty of Arbys where I live.
Key_Incident_2950@reddit
Got one up the street. I remember when they slow roasted whole bottom rounds and made their own beef. Now its overly priced processed lunch meat.
leapfall@reddit
Feels like an Arby’s night.
studentofgonzo@reddit
Fun Fact I learned late in life: Arby's = RB's, which stands for Roast Beef. Credit to my much smarter wife for that one, and we don't even eat there lol.
ohmygoditspurple@reddit
Yeah, your wife lied to you.
studentofgonzo@reddit
Lol she wasn't stating it as fact, just a theory. Either way it's trash so whatever
ohmygoditspurple@reddit
You literally called it a fun fact from your wife haha. I don’t actually think your wife lied to you. Just calling out that it’s not why it’s called Arby’s. It’s going to be ok.
studentofgonzo@reddit
You know, you're right I did lol dammit. But yes you're right, it'll all be okay in the end... unless you eat too much of this stuff I'm guessing
gamacrit@reddit
The Raffel Brothers founded Arby’s in 1964. That’s what “RB” stands for.
stupidwhiteman42@reddit
Are these supposed to be rare? There is at least a dozen of them around here.
Infamous-Yak2864@reddit
OY...
SignificantApricot69@reddit
They are talking about the sign, not the existence of Arby’s
whatintheactualfeth@reddit
The sign. Not the store.
themisprintguy@reddit
That location used to have a sunroom, much like an old Wendy’s. Take a few steps down to a nice dining area. Glad the sign went unchanged, but I do miss the old building.
Sir_PressedMemories@reddit
That building had a fire some time back. I was thrilled the sign survived but miss the dining area with the big curved glass.
jordy1971@reddit
Americas Roast Beef Yes Sir
baileya71@reddit
As a child in the 70s, I thought this sign illustrated the Labia Majora! After all, the “top of the hat” is what I saw on my own body, from my vantage point! 😂🤣🤪 As a grown woman, both husbands confirmed: it “is delicious.”
EyeSuspicious777@reddit
In college you could get five roast beef sandwiches for $5.
It was an occasional ritual for four of us to each chip in $10 to get 20 sandwiches and an eighth of brick weed to keep ourselves fed and high for whatever afternoon adventure we came up with
Hilsam_Adent@reddit
There was one right off base in Great Lakes, IL. I happened to be going through my schooling there at the time the 5 for $5 started. When it first debuted you could mix n' match a regular roast beef and beef n' cheddars. Used to buy 20 - 40 of 'em at a time and hang the bag out the barracks window (believe it or not, Chicago is fucking cold during the fall and winter, so you have this whole-ass refrigerator called "outside" just waiting to be used for free) and yoink a couple of sammiches to chuck in the microwave for meals. Saved a shit ton of money doing that and would "allegedly" be willing to part with one for two dollars when it was three days to payday and you had an entire barracks filled with kids that didn't want to eat the galley food and had the money management skills of your average NFL player, though with a significantly smaller paycheck.
baileya71@reddit
WHERE IS EVERYBODY?
harryschmilsson@reddit
Anyone remember Rax roast beef?
Secure_Sherbert_1202@reddit
America's roast beef, yes sir!
Qwirk@reddit
I always thought that slogan was funny as it didn't exactly roll off the tongue. Not that I'm a marketing expert.
Downtown_Anteater_38@reddit
We have one in Denver on Sheridan.at least I think it’s still there
Top-Order-2878@reddit
As of a couple days ago it is still there.
aran_maybe@reddit
I was gonna bring that one up. I haven’t been up there in a few years but I assume it’s still there since the world has not completely ended.
Randeth@reddit
My favorite use of these signs was when an Austin local burger place opened up they were named Hat Creek so just reused the existing frame with a new sign. 🙂
They've expanded now and don't use that anymore, but as a single location to save money starting up it was a great idea.
Onslaught7676@reddit
There’s one in Meadsville, PA.
kentuckywildcats1986@reddit
I just thought it was funny that under the big "Roast Beef" sign the little sign says "FISH IS BACK"
pocketdare@reddit
It's all about the Roast Beef!!!!
(fish is back)
Significant_Dark_725@reddit
They had one of those in Greensboro, NC when I was in college in 97. Not sure if it's still there, or if they updated to new signage. Throwback fosho
t_huddleston@reddit
America's

Beef
Yes
Sir!
sgtedrock@reddit
We still have ours in Athens, Georgia.
HippieJed@reddit
We still have a few of these in Knoxville
A_SingleSpeeder@reddit
I've eaten at this one in the 80's! That's my old stomping ground.
Eldar_Atog@reddit
There are a few in East Tennessee too.
davekva@reddit
We have a bunch of Arby's here in Northern VA, but only the one in Alexandria, VA still has that same old school sign.
Final_Pear7801@reddit
OMG! My home stomping grounds!!!!
ONROSREPUS@reddit
They are rare but they do have some around. I know of two in my state.
aarontsuru@reddit
There’s nearly 3,500 Arby’s in the US.
Dude_1980@reddit
TheJokersChild@reddit
But how many of them still have that great big hat outside?
Majestic-Tadpole8458@reddit
Sign updated on US 19 in Tampa/Clearwater. Bummer
unicornwantsweed@reddit
There’s one in my town in Michigan as well.
No-Lock6921@reddit
There is one off 202 in Wilmington, DE.
IgorRenfield@reddit
Don't tell corporate. They'll make up them "update" it.
SqueezeBoxJack@reddit
Me: "A giant potato?"
Step-Brother: "That's a Arby's hat shithead. It says ROAST BEEF."
Me: "Just like dad when he see's your mom..."
Ah the those sweet summer days running through town from an angry step-brother.
Dude_1980@reddit
As a kid, I had no idea it was supposed to be a giant cowboy hat.
Human_Evidence_1887@reddit
State?
TheJokersChild@reddit
Presumably Ohio since OP mentioned Cincy. Unless there's another Cincinnati...
Human_Evidence_1887@reddit
I didn’t know “Cincy” - ty
iOSmkim@reddit
THAT is an old-style Arby’s. 🐶
Bartvader75@reddit
There's one just outside Birmingham, AL. I forget the name of that area though
shakeyjake@reddit
The older vintage the street sign the better the food for the national fast food chains.
Witty-Reason-2102@reddit
Up until about 5 years ago, the Arby's in Warrensburg, MO still had one of these signs. People in town were pissed when they replaced it with a newer one.
coci222@reddit
Anyone remember when they sliced the beef in store?
HandheldObsession@reddit
They still do
Majestic-Tadpole8458@reddit
Is that a hunk of processed meat they are slicing?
im_datMofo@reddit
I miss the Arby-Q's from the late 70's - early 80's. Freshly sliced beef and then dipped in BBQ sauce.
Hilsam_Adent@reddit
Peak memory for me, as well; as that was the era in which I was a lil' sprout, first developing my own tastes and preferences.
Aggravating_Cable_32@reddit
Tampa has one, or at least they did the last time I was there in 2012ish.
Majestic-Tadpole8458@reddit
Sign updated on US 19 in Tampa/Clearwater within last year. Bummer
TenderLA@reddit
Does Eugene, Oregon still have one of these? My grandpa used to take my brother and I there if we were hanging out with him on a weekend, grandma was probably at her weekly hair appointment.
Open_Mortgage_4645@reddit
We got one of these in Denver (Lakeside). It's the same Arby's, but the sign is fun. It's right next to the amusement park.
doopoffwoffwagon@reddit
Nihilist Arby’s
Relevant_Wrangler830@reddit
We still have the big hat sign in Athens, GA!
Weird-Girl-675@reddit
We have one near Denver too. Such a staple.
texicali74@reddit
The one on Sheridan? I haven’t been down there in a while so I didn’t know if it was still there.
Weird-Girl-675@reddit
Yup. I used to commute that way and it was like a beacon when traffic was backed up. So close…so close…
beneaththemassacre@reddit
There's one in Phoenix. The hat. So good.
Witty_fartgoblin@reddit
So much beef
birdlord_d@reddit
Williamsport PA has one on "the Golden Strip"
TheJokersChild@reddit
Johnstown did too, last I was there 3 years ago.
TheJokersChild@reddit
I hope all the lights still work.
Afraid_Till_1990@reddit
Crystal MN has one
ChrisRiley_42@reddit
Until I zoomed in, I thought you found a sign for 'Bob's country bunker" ;)
OreoSpeedwaggon@reddit
What kinds of music do they have at that place?
ChrisRiley_42@reddit
Both kinds. country AND western.
OreoSpeedwaggon@reddit
😉👍
SweatyPalmsSunday@reddit
There are a few in Michigan
stillthrowinitallawa@reddit
I think there's one on the west side too. They definitely have one at the sign museum which is worth checking out if you're in town.
GrandMoffJerjerrod@reddit
There is one on West Broad St in Richmond VA, if the location is still there that is.
Sufficient_Stop8381@reddit
I think that one is gone now too. I think I remember some efforts online to save it a couple years ago.
GrandMoffJerjerrod@reddit
That location had been there for decades.
FuckIsItFridayYet@reddit
That sign looks almost as old as the meat they put in their sandwich’s!
Futrel@reddit
I recently bought a waterbed. My wife calls it the Dead Sea.
Bobby_Globule@reddit
I want to climb it.
BuyInHigh@reddit
Spoke WA has one
SaebraK@reddit
South Bend, IN still has one.
pjhk75@reddit
We still have ours in Gainesville, FL.
ImWatchingTelevision@reddit
I distinctly remember when I was a kid we went to Arby's and it was nice inside...carpet, big table, booth benches were cushioned and the tables had the squirt bottles of Arby's Sauce and Horsey Sauce. The crunch of the sesame seeds on the bun was also memorable. Anybody else remember it that way?
Global-Jury8810@reddit
There’s an Arby’s on Sunset in Hollywood that still has the sign with the neon on it.
HandheldObsession@reddit
We have one in Norfolk VA that is still here in spirit at least
walter_o_dim@reddit
The one up on Little Creek still has the original hat sign and is open - or at least it was a couple of weeks ago!
HandheldObsession@reddit
I didn’t even know that one is there. I used to be a manager for the one on General Booth when it opened a thousand years ago and I don’t think the Little Creek one was owned by the same group I worked for. I know the one on Shore Drive and that one in the pic I posted where always the worst performers. Who knows the little Creek one could have been but I don’t remember it. The one I worked for an 5 others were owned by ex Browns QB Bernie Kosar. I’m a huge Browns fan so it was great when he’d come through every few years.
walter_o_dim@reddit
Ah, gotcha! And yep, that one is still there. Also, I have moderately high hopes for you guys this year since you got Todd Monken on board (I'm a UGA grad, so I can only speak highly of that guy)!
Here's how it currently looks.
GlassHouses1980@reddit
Still one here where I live too
Blizzardof1991@reddit
There's one in Roseville MN as well
ZweitenMal@reddit
There’s one in Galesburg, Illinois too. North Henderson Street.
ZeroCalorieCoffee@reddit
ZweitenMal@reddit
Behind there you can just see the Perkins where my grandpa and his girlfriend (both 96) have dinner most evenings.
ZeroCalorieCoffee@reddit
We visited this location on our way back from Custer State Park, headed towards Decatur. I use Swaem to check in and loved the old school Arby’s sign.
ZweitenMal@reddit
My parents grew up there and moved away in 1973. We visited every few years the whole time I was growing up. That sign is one of the most consistent markers in my life. (Swedoughs, now Judy’s, is another!)
My dad’s parents had a magnet of it on their fridge. My uncle owns the house now and I’d bet anything it’s still there.
My grandpa will be gone soon and that will be the last time I see it.
ZeroCalorieCoffee@reddit
I feel this so much ….
vavavrroom@reddit
Alexandria VA has one!!
Responsible-Middle35@reddit
There's one of these east Indy, too.

wyohman@reddit
It should be, they started in Boardman, Ohio near Youngstown
Original_Study3415@reddit
One out in Fountain City (Knoxville) Tennessee
sven_bohikus@reddit
They’re trying to tell you what part of the animal the meat is with the sign. Balls and all.
FairBaker315@reddit
There's still one in Erie, PA.
When I was a little kid and saw it all lit up I'd think that must be what Las Vegas looks like! If I remember correctly, the lights around the outside flashed in different patterns making it even more flashy.
mcclone1@reddit
Wow
DynastyZealot@reddit
Denver still has at least one
Ianthin1@reddit
I have a neighbor that collects all kinds of weird things, and this is one of them. He has an old Arby’s sign mixed in with old busses, a train car, and the fuselage of a decommissioned Maryland State Police helicopter.
Diligent_Actuator950@reddit
This sounds like a terrible neighbor unless he lives on 20 acres. Either way - I pity whoever has to clear that out.
Ianthin1@reddit
Oh he has plenty of land. He also runs an auction company, which is probably how he gets most of that stuff.
FormNo9206284@reddit
We still have one here as well! Mishawaka Indiana
GlossyBuckslip@reddit
My little sister called Arby’s “big hat”. We got dinner there one night and I told her, “This is Arby’s.” She said, “It’s not Arby’s, it’s their’by’s.”0
Warhammer517@reddit
The East Michigan Avenue Arby's here in Jackson, Michigan has that same sign.
External_Side_7063@reddit
Street Rd., Bucks County Feasterville same original sign
LeiraLaw@reddit
We have one with a sign like that in San Antonio TX as well
whatintheactualfeth@reddit
There's one in Spokane Washington too
skronk14@reddit
Richmond, Virginia Arby's are built different. For real.
We have the largest Arby's in the world in Colonial Heights and all our beef is grass fed.
https://arbysrva.com/
BatGlittering7781@reddit
There used to be one on route 202 outside of Wilmington DE. I could never figure out why they took it down.
FoleyV@reddit
We have one here in Alexandria, Virginia as well! 😋 Jamocha shakes!
Bob-Dolemite@reddit
back in 2006 i took a whole bunch of stills and made a gif out of this sign. its on a hard drive somewhere
justino@reddit
There is still one of these by my house and until we were in our 30’s my wife thought this was a pancake and a sausage.
Tom_Slick_Racer@reddit
Those signs are back when they actually sliced off punks of roast beef in front of you in this huge back leg of a cow
Outrageous_Drag6613@reddit
There are still Arby’s in Washington state
pigprof@reddit
Nice. There’s one still on the east side of Ann Arbor as well.
