Are there differences in Easter traditions between Catholics and Orthodox Christians in the Balkans?

Oh, I see? I didn't know that pigs were also slaughtered. I'm used to people usually preparing an Easter lamb or rabbit.

Well for Christmas its pig. Sheep is also good roasted whole, but this year we had good price on the pig. Actually the tradition is just boiled eggs painted on big friday and eaten on sunday. Roasted chicken, turkey, etc. is all fine, its just because entire families would gather on sunday for lunch and other meals so roasting according to how many people need to eat. Its gonna be 8 of us this year, but ladt year I roasted half a pig for my uncle, cousin and myself 🤣

In albania pigs are reserved for holidays in the winter. Pigs in the spring are not good to eat.

Traditionally we do lamb, but nowadays no one really cares that much for the "lunch" portion of the day (i.e. we can do lamb, pork, even poultry). The breakfast (or rather the 2nd breakfast, i.e. "marenda" as we'd call it in Dalmatia, eaten around 9-11am, during the first break after the first bout of the day's work) is the meal which tends to be way more traditional. The main part are of course Easter bread ("pogača"), boiled eggs (usually traditionally dyed using red onions and various wild plants for patterns) and cooked ham. Other than that people eat leek, radish, sausages, and many other things, depending on region and personal preference.
