Winter Rust 2026: CarbonMax CM-1 Composite Rifle

I call it the CarbonMax CM-1, my first generation composite rifle based around Eugene Stoners operating system in a full length upper (from buffer system to handguard). Press molded prepreg composites, bonded in assembly with 7000 series aluminum on wear surfaces with titanium accoutrements. Production build #0000 shown in raw.

I built a few of these in the past using another production method, but I have a jig now to produce more. Since the first 3 prototypes I added a charging handle guide rod bushing, latching charging handle, and cartridge buffer assembly. Added Aluminum/Ceramic lining on the handguard as well as stainless steel plates behind the M-Lok to improve clamping strength.

I have barreled this as 223 Wylde, and mostly run a Riflespeed gas block, Criterion Core, or Proof Barrel in 16 with a mid length gas system. Bolts tested include Young Manufacturing M16 Chrome, Unrivaled Performance Duty, Lantac Enhanced. It can run any AR15 bolt with the addition of a saddle on the gas key. Upper is serialized.

It weighs 6.5lbs with full mass carrier, core barrel, captured buffer, ambi charging and billet lower. It can be built as low as 5lbs with lower duty cycle components and skeletonized rails. Right now I regularly magdump a full loadout but full meltdown will have to wait for first blem build.

Co-Worker, Craftsmen, and Dog shots cause they were critical to this project.
