Липсата на адекватна пътна инфраструктура, задръствания дори и в малки градове, храната и не на последно място отношението на някои местни колеги, нещо което не срещнах в Македония или Сърбия.

Unable-Stay-6478@reddit
Croatia, Bosnia and Montenegro are not neighbours. They're family.
Names-Are-Confusing@reddit
😭 Sorry this Yugo dream is so funny, wake up to reality. We were the same country in the last century, got over it, better off now.
Unable-Stay-6478@reddit
Well of course some Croat is gonna croating. I didn't say I want Yugoslavia to reunite, just that I don't feel foreign in any of these countries.
Names-Are-Confusing@reddit
Well, you should. We’re definitely not family and while some of us are like our dear southern neighbours, some of us aren’t, and I’m sick of everyone assuming things they don’t know about because they read bs like this online. My culture, language and traditions have been constantly put aside, neglected and denied since we unfortunately got united and I’m not “croating”, I’m just sick of it. I’m a Croat with my own culture and language, not a “Serbocroat”, “ex-Yugo”, or anything else people try to put on me.
Unable-Stay-6478@reddit
It's wrong to put people from Istria, Dalmatia, Zagorje and Slavonia under the name Croats to begin with.
Go to Brčko or Herzegovina and tell me the difference between Serbs, Bosniaks and Croats.
Names-Are-Confusing@reddit
“Croats” from Bosnia are simply Bosnians. Obviously a “Croat”, a “Serb” and a “Bosniak” from the same town will be the same people. This logic only applies to Bosnia though.
Unable-Stay-6478@reddit
No, you have similar situations in all of Serbo-Croatian speaking countries.
Names-Are-Confusing@reddit
No, you don’t. Only the border areas maybe(e.g. Brod and Slavonski Brod), but generally speaking, as YOU said it, Croats are diverse enough by ourselves. Grouping us in with even more diverse groups is alien and unnecessary.
Unable-Stay-6478@reddit
But I didn't group you up, you got triggered when I said you were like a family.
Names-Are-Confusing@reddit
Yeah because it’s not true and it’s ex-Yugoslav propaganda.
Unable-Stay-6478@reddit
I'm not sure why are you so salty? You had us in WW2, we had you in Yugoslav wars - get over it, time to turn the page.
Names-Are-Confusing@reddit
We ultimately won the Yugoslav wars, achieved independence and our own country after so long. A LOT of us, not just me, get very annoyed when propaganda such as “Serbs are our brothers” “We are one people” “Serbocroatian language” gets spread or when people start believing in it because of people like you.
Unable-Stay-6478@reddit
It's not just Serbs and Bosnians, practically every other republic had a positive view of it (with the exception of Slovenia who were 50/50) except you.

Now politically is a different game:
Honorary mention: The Black Sea - our best neighbor. Never caused any trouble. I do not consider the other Balkan countries like Kosovo (quasi-state), Albania, Montenegro, BiH, Croatia, Slovenia, Moldova, Cyprus Hungary and Portugal our neighbors, as we do not share a border.

CypriotGreek@reddit
Damn we really don’t like any of our neighbours that much . (Besides Bulgaria, we went from enemies to allies, they’re the best).
PlayfulMountain6@reddit
You had open war with Bulgaria and not a single one with Albania
CypriotGreek@reddit
I mean, sure, technically there hasn’t been a formal Greece vs. Albania war. But that doesn’t mean there hasn’t been conflict. Albanians have repeatedly been involved in fighting Greeks, just usually under someone else’s banner.
During the Greek War of Independence, they were used by the Ottomans. In WWI and WWII, under larger powers. Even during the Cold War.
And even today, you don’t see Bulgarian leadership constantly taking shots at Greece every few weeks, which says something about the difference in relations.
Fine-Ear-8103@reddit
Greek war of independence was albanians fighting albanians most of the time so you guys can barely even claim any beef with albanians that shit was more in-house than anything else.
CypriotGreek@reddit
Yeah man, totally. I mean, you had the so-called “Albanians” literally throwing themselves off cliffs in Epirus, whole traditions tied to that, but yeah, clearly just Albanians, fighting their own people, but they’re still Albanians tho!
They’d rather jump off cliffs than live under Muslim Albanian rule, but sure bro, same people, same identity, all just “in-house,” right?
Yeah, they definitely would’ve loved to be seen as the same as you. Sure thing. You guys are so smart.
Fine-Ear-8103@reddit
You can do all the mental gymnastics you want, the facts I stated simply remains. Without albanians on both sides of the aisle, the greek war of independence doesn’t happen when it does.
CypriotGreek@reddit
The thing that annoys you people the most is that the Arvanites willingly assimilated into Greek culture and didn’t see themselves as Albanian ever, and honestly, that’s pretty funny.
Fine-Ear-8103@reddit
Lol trust me we’re not annoyed, you got albanian granddaddies and that makes us happy. And please revise what you write cus your last comment made zero sense. “Willingly assimilated into greek” “didnt see themselves as albanians ever” then they wouldn’t have to assimilate in the first place.? But they did because…they were albanian lol.
ThickCaterpillar9867@reddit
It is not as simple as you put it,during Greek war of the independence ,according to almost any source the Albanian were 20-33% of Greece population and those who fought the most ,the war at that time was religious and not ethnic ,a lot of muslim Greeks fought for the Ottomans exactly as christian Albanians fought for the liberation of Greece.
CypriotGreek@reddit
I love how you guys bring this up like it’s some huge “gotcha” that’s supposed to change everything.
Yeah, there were Albanian-speaking populations involved, no one denies that. But did they see themselves as part of some Albanian national identity? No. Did an Albanian state or identity even exist in the way you’re implying? No.
The Arvanites didn’t fight for “Albania.” They chose to integrate into Greek society, and they did, fully.
So what’s the point of bringing this up every time? Is it supposed to prove something? Because it doesn’t change the fact that they fought as part of the Greek side, not for some abstract Albanian identity that didn’t even exist yet.
ThickCaterpillar9867@reddit
That was no “gotcha Idk why you get offended by simply stating a fact ,clearly an Albanian identity existed but not a national identity exactly as did not exist a Greek national identity ,no one is saying they fought for Albania ,they fought for the liberation of their lands ,is simple as that, Bringing it up in the discussion ,seems pretty relevant to the topic and calling “Albanian identity abstract and did not exist” is contradictory to the existence of Arvanites themselves ,what were they if their identiy did not exist??you see how stupid that is
Porphyres@reddit
Do you have any evidence of a collective Arvanite identity existing.
ThickCaterpillar9867@reddit
Shared ancestry ,language ,customs and history are the pillars of identity, if they did not have these characteristics we would not even be talking about it. Go and post some Slavic toponyms and embarrass yourself over and over with the same topics.
Porphyres@reddit
How about you write a comment of higher quality so it doesn't get deleted by reddit?
ThickCaterpillar9867@reddit
It is not deleted, reddit knows who you are and hides the comments from you so you stop embarrassing yourself
Porphyres@reddit
Its deleted for everyone except you obviously. These don't make a collective identity, a collective identity exists when the majority of people recognise they are part of it. Arvanites do not recognise even arvanites living next to them, let alone the ones a sea away.
ThickCaterpillar9867@reddit
“Ethnic identity is an individual's sense of belonging to a particular group, often defined by shared ancestry, cultural heritage, language, traditions, and history.” This is the definition of ethnic identity ,I do not think you get to make the rules and also to claim that they did not recognize Arvanites living next to them ,you are just talking nonsense …
Porphyres@reddit
"a sense of belonging" Arvanites didn't have a sense of belonging to anything other than their village and church. There is no Arvanite ethnic identity or common ancestry among Arvanites.
ThickCaterpillar9867@reddit
How do you know they did not have the sense of belonging??you are making stuff up Any single historian says they have Albanian origin,Im nit making it up ,you should argue with mainstream historians not with me and ask also yourself did Maniots have the same identity as Arvanites or as Vlachs or as your beloved ones Slavs😂😂
Porphyres@reddit
If you claim there is some shared arvanite consciousness the burden of proof is on you. "they have Albanian origin" origin from an identity that didn't exist at that time, time travellers? Plus in a hypothetical scenario where the Albanian identity existed back then they still wouldn't have a common origin because Arvanites are just a linguistic community made up from a people of diverse origin.
ThickCaterpillar9867@reddit
“They are made up from people of diverse origin”burden of proof on you “Albanian identity did not exist “ burden of proof on you Silly claims ,Idk how you gonne prove it
Porphyres@reddit
Firstly Arvanitic surnames are of diverse origin (Staikos, Liaskos, Seferlis, Papadopoulos) needless to say there is no reason to believe a Seferlis and Papadopoulos share common ancestry. There is no evidence of an Albanian national identity existing before the late 19th century.
ThickCaterpillar9867@reddit
Surnamed developed very recently but Im sure you were not aware of that, you changed it from Albanian identity to Albanian national identity 😂😂you cannot have a normal convo without lying
Porphyres@reddit
Very recently? More recently than arvanite settlement in Greece? No. National, ethnic, collective whatever you want there is no evidence of such a thing pre-modern era.
ThickCaterpillar9867@reddit
Of course yes ,you are clearly an ignorant ,you keep denying any historical evidence, you made baseless claims and cant prove shit, just shut up and accept reality
Porphyres@reddit
Why do Arvanites have the Roman surname "Liaskos" from "Laskaris"? I thought surnamed appeared recently.
ThickCaterpillar9867@reddit
They did appear very recently and were always fluid ,they changed over time and usually before were given based on your profession, place of origin ,your family member etc etc were not the official form we have today ,look at the Ottoman defters and you will see that most people had no surnames till the 16-17th century ,they are register with the name only and max father name.
Porphyres@reddit
Highly imaginative to think an "albanian" in south Greece would have the surname of a Roman noble house.
ThickCaterpillar9867@reddit
What is the Roman noble house??Laskaris??oh boyy😂😂do you have the word laskar in Greek?
Porphyres@reddit
No we dont. Its Persian.
ThickCaterpillar9867@reddit
Yes but it was used for soldiers/sailors(in albanian is derogatory now) those who have that surname had probably a soldier as ancestors and it got also changed ,for example if one was born with the surname “ soldier” became a carpenter in profession also his surname changed to “carpenter” or even if he came from another place ,the old place name became his new surname in the new place, this is how surnames evolved. Kolokotronis original surname was Tsergini,he got the Kolokotronis(bythguri) nickname from Arvanites and it became his surname.
ThickCaterpillar9867@reddit
https://macedonia-invictus.com/blog/skanderbeg-letter-to-prince-of-taranto/
From 1460 Skanderbeg himself proclaims the clear Albanian identity ,he refers to himself as Albanian and talks about Albanian. Sleep good little paleoslavite😂😂
Porphyres@reddit
One person? Plus Albanians today claim they descend from Illyrians, Georgios Kastriotis claims he descends from the Epirotes which is which.
ThickCaterpillar9867@reddit
You forgot also that Albanians claim that Epirotes were Illyrians but those ancient identities means shit today!! You clearly got owned and bringing stupid claims cuz I proved a clear identity of Albanians since 1460s( even earlier) so the Arvanites had a clear identity since then, the Arberesh also prove it ,you just do not wanna accept reality.
Porphyres@reddit
Albanians claim everything that existed before slavic migrations as their, silly claims. 1 person does not make an identity, I can find a byzantine talking about Greek identity in the middle ages, that wouldn't make it real.
ThickCaterpillar9867@reddit
No they do not claim Spartans or Athenians ,it is not one person ,there are many ,you cannot find any single source of a Greek identity beside 1 ,referring to the origin of some others while for the Albanian there are many but I gave one where an Albanian calls himself Albanian and part of the Albanians because he says “you consider Albanians as …”
Porphyres@reddit
There is many tens of references to Greeks in byzantine times but they dont mean anything, the average person didn't have a greek identity. I will be seriously impressed if you find evidence that the average person in Albania before the 19th century had an Albanian identity.
ThickCaterpillar9867@reddit
I would be surprised to find that kind of evidence for any ethnicity, there were no recording like today so idk whta is the point you making
Porphyres@reddit
Those (half of which are not true) dont make a collective identity on their own, let alone any identity resembling the modern Albanian one.
PlayfulMountain6@reddit
There was no Albanian state during the Greek War of Independence, so you can’t project modern national identity onto people who were subjects of the Ottoman Empire. Albanians, like Greeks, were on both sides of that conflict, some fought for the Ottomans, others were central figures in the Greek side itself. So technically they should thank orthodox albanians for helping in revolution. As for WW1 there wasn’t any real ‘Albania vs Greece’ conflict in World War I. Albania had just been created in 1912–1913 and basically collapsed into chaos during the war, no stable government, no unified army, and large parts of the country occupied by foreign powers. Greece briefly occupied parts of southern Albania , while Italy, Austria-Hungary, France, and others controlled different zones. In WW2 Albania was officially invaded and occupied in 1939. After that, it had no independent foreign policy. During the Italian invasion of Albania, there was resistance from Albanian forces against Italy. After that, Albania lost its sovereignty, so anything done from its territory, like the attack on Greece, was under Italian control, not an independent Albanian decision.
CypriotGreek@reddit
You’re contradicting yourself. You start by saying there was no Albanian state or identity, and then turn around and talk about Albanians as key actors with a defined role. You can’t have it both ways.
And you’re basically proving my point. Albanians didn’t fight as an independent state, they fought under whoever controlled them at the time: Ottomans, Italians, Austrians, whoever. That’s exactly what I said.
As for WWI, we occupied Northern Epirus multiple times, two times. That alone shows there was ongoing conflict in practice, regardless of whether Albania had a stable government or not.
And your argument about “no independent policy” doesn’t really change anything. At the end of the day, what matters is what people on the ground did, and historically, Albanians have repeatedly ended up fighting against Greeks, regardless of whose banner they were under.
PlayfulMountain6@reddit
You’re still applying a modern nationalist lens to a pre-national era, that’s the core mistake.During the Greek War of Independence, people didn’t act as ‘Greeks vs Albanians’ in the modern sense. They acted based on religion, local loyalties, or imperial structures like the Ottoman Empire. That’s why Albanians appear on both sides, some in Ottoman ranks, others as key figures in the Greek revolt. You don’t get to call the ones who helped the revolution side “not really Albanian,” and then label the ones on the Ottoman side as “Albanians fighting Greeks.” That’s selective logic. As for World War I, occupying parts of a collapsed, fragmented Albania isn’t proof of an ‘Albania vs Greece conflict.’ It proves Albania had no functioning state, and stronger armies moved into its territory. That’s occupation, not bilateral conflict. And the “people on the ground” argument doesn’t change that. If those people weren’t acting on behalf of an Albanian state or national program, you can’t retroactively turn their actions into ‘Albania vs Greece.’ Otherwise, you’re just rewriting imperial and world wars into modern ethnic conflicts. By your standard, every multiethnic empire becomes a ‘national war,’ which is obviously ahistorical.
ThickCaterpillar9867@reddit
We had no official wars but ……
PlayfulMountain6@reddit
What?
ThickCaterpillar9867@reddit
There have been always ethnic tensions between us ,we calling them Grekomans they calling us Turk-Albanian , Im not saying as recent and tense as with Serbs but those issues have existed
PlayfulMountain6@reddit
Mostly non ethnic tensions. Even the state were not formed yet. Mostly religious tensions but there were also muslim greeks and orthodox and catholics albanians. Thats for sure
ThickCaterpillar9867@reddit
There were minor ethnic tensions during the modern states, along with somewhat more significant religious tensions, where people of mixed ethnic backgrounds fought each other primarily over religion.

I mean yea, the Bulgarians went from fighting with the Balkan League against the Ottoman Empire to liberate the Balkans, then betrayed the alliance and attacked them, which caused the Bulgarians to be gang-banged by the League, the defeated Ottomans retaking parts of eastern thrace and Romania also joining in to take south dobruja. Then, they joined the Central Powers, fighting alongside the the turks against the Balkan League and Entente, then again joining the Axis voluntarily fighting against the Little Entente and the Allies, until after WW2, where they were forced to become Communist and be allied with Romania who also became communist, and from there the Romanian-Bulgarian bond reignited, after 1989, Bulgaria bonded with the greeks again cuz they were like, ok, if u can't beat them, join 'em, the first time it went well, so lets keep it that way. 😂
Good-Bear-4231@reddit
And look now both of you have problems with small country Macedonia, why because both have parts of Macedonia and bout don't recognise one Macedonia
canyoubelieveitt@reddit
What do you mean betray we were literally betrayed by you guys because we didnt get Macedonia (the fake one) as agreed prior to the war. Since this region is pretty much what Kosovo is to Serbs but x2 we went for it in BW2. Same reason we were in WW1 on German side, they promised it to us in case they win. Its all in the past anyway but I dont like this agenda with backstabbing because there were clear agreements which ultimately were not abided to so for me this is absolutely a reason to declare war.
SOHONEYSAME@reddit
right.
if u only wanted North Macedonia, y attack Greece?
Greece never controlled it, our forces were in Macedonia (including Thessaloniké) & it's Bulgaria launched offensive.
canyoubelieveitt@reddit
Because you had a defense pact meaning you would fall into our flanks bro.
Checky_3rd@reddit
if I was ruling Bulgaria, I would do the same dont get me wrong, but objectively, the attack was Bulgaria, wdym we betrayed you ? I mean, maybe us Romanians, yea, I admit, but the Balkan League (Bulgaria, Serbia, Montenegro and Greece) clearly established some claims before the 1st Balkan War. Splitting North Macedonia, West to Serbia, East to Bulgaria, and after the treaty in londom of 1913 may, the bulgarians attacked.
canyoubelieveitt@reddit
From what I know Serbs didnt abide to the agreement because the western powers didn't give them their claim, which I believe is nowadays Albania . Therefore they felt like they fought for nothing if they gave us what was agreed, aka Macedonia. Then Greece had simply a secret pact with Serbia because Serbs knew we were coming for Macedonia regardless. Then yes Romania joined like out of nowhere and Turks just used the momentum to snatch Odrin back. Again past is past, I actually like Greece a lot and Romania too, I dont harbor bad feelings towards Serbs as well and actually not even towards Turks. I simply dont like this portraying of us in BW2 and WW1 as if out of the blue we decided that we want to occupy all neighbors out of territory thirst, its not accurate. To us, and especially back then, Macedonia is core and heart territory of Bulgaria, with tons of our folklore stemming from there, plenty capitals of past empires and states of ours, so obviously this was always THE goal of all wars we fought against Ottomans, far more important than Odrin and even Aegean access. I assume diplomacy would have done a better job back then, like telling Serbs to go for their claim and simply backing them united or smh, I doubt western powers would have liked to commit millions of soldiers to die in the Balkans, but it is what it is. Nowadays territory is the least of our problems, far more important is to fix demographics and economy etc.
Good-Bear-4231@reddit
You like Macedonia more than Bulgaria admit

On a side-note, I think the Sarakatsani are similar to the Medieval Romans in the way they identify themselves.
Medieval Roman Empire:
Identifying themselves as Romans.
Ethnically Greek.
Sarakatsani:
Identifying themselves as Bulgarian (politically, since they live in Bulgaria)
Ethnically Greek.
It's the same as me, I was born in Moldova, but Moldovans are Romanian, so I am ethnically Romanian but I am politically from Moldova.
MartinBP@reddit
That's completely normal in Bulgaria though. Unlike the ethnic-based politics in the Western Balkans, the type of nationalism that developed in Bulgaria has historically had a larger emphasis on loyalty to the state. Levski was inspired by the French Revolution and tied Bulgarian identity to an independent state, so Bulgarian, Turks, Greeks, Jews etc. could all be compatriots. Other nationalists influenced by Central Europe favoured a strict religious/linguistic nationalism and that's what is more common among nationalists nowadays but the Bulgarian constitution is still based on Levski's perspective.
Checky_3rd@reddit
Yeah. That's actually really cool.
ClothesZestyclose814@reddit (OP)
Wait, you are Sarakatsanos? That's so interesting
erythrocytes235@reddit
Yes, there’s 20k of us in Bulgaria.
ClothesZestyclose814@reddit (OP)
And how do you guys identify with? Do you speak a Greek dialect? I honestly have no clue, all I know is that it's a nomadic people originally and probably of Greek heritage.
erythrocytes235@reddit
We identify as Greek but also Bulgarian. The Greek dialect spoken by the Sarakatsani in Bulgaria is dying due to the internet and it’s becoming more like mainstream Greek. The nomadic lifestyle died with communism, most Sarakatsani & Greek Bulgarians reside in cities.
floare_salbatica@reddit
So we're you speaking of Bulgarian general preferences or your own? Curious why you'd place Romania first.
erythrocytes235@reddit
Bulgarian general preferences otherwise I’d place Greece first.
floare_salbatica@reddit
Understandable
ClothesZestyclose814@reddit (OP)
Are you guys organized to protect your identity? Are you in contact with the Sarakatsani in Greece?
erythrocytes235@reddit
The Federation of Cultural Associations of Sarakatsani is the primary organization that protects our identity. Yes, we are in contact with Sarakatsani in Greece and some of us visit for cultural festivals.
ClothesZestyclose814@reddit (OP)
And what is the cultural center of the Sarakatsani, any specific region? Where are you concentrated?
erythrocytes235@reddit
The largest one is in Sliven, after Sliven they can be found in the Balkan Mountains. Keep in mind that that the young people like to go to move to the big cities.
ClothesZestyclose814@reddit (OP)
Oh so up north? I expected them to be somewhat closer to Greece?
xperio28@reddit
Most nomads that migrated the route between the Rhodope Mountains and Greece converted to Islam to avoid persecution by the Greek Church and to preserve their traditions. Pomaks are actually many distinct groups that are quite different from each other.

Our favorite is the only one that did not attack us during Balkan War 2 - the Black sea.
Stupid history jokes aside, I am biased and can't say anything but Greece.
Travelling to Romania next week, let's see how this goes.
Least favorite.. nothing against but we do not seem to have much in common with NMK lately.
vitzex@reddit
Anything specific happening in Romania next week? Have fun btw!
RustCohle_23@reddit
No, tbh. I just promised my grandma that we will go visit the castles one day so we are making a family trip to Bucharest, Brasov and the castles. Any suggestions - feel free if you are local! Have not done much researching tbh.
vitzex@reddit
Aww, that's sweet.
Only general advice I can give is that the Bucharest<>Brasov traffic might suck if it's a weekend or holiday, as everybody will be driving on the same small mountain road.
As far as local suggestions go, I can only advise about Bucharest. It all depends on how long you're staying there - i.e. are you just parking and hanging out for a few hours or are you staying overnight?
RustCohle_23@reddit
About the traffic - this is why we decided to travel this weekend, because next week is Easter and it'd be crazy. We are arriving in Bucharest in Saturday and heading to Brasov on Sunday.
We will spend at least a day in Bucharest - I've booked a place here:
Bulevardul Unirii 72, Sector 3
Any suggestions would be welcome - we are a family of 11, so any tips for a family sightseeing and places to eat are welcome! I think we all would appreciate some authentic place to try Romanian food.
Then on Monday we are heading back to Bucharest, we will see if we will stay there for another night or just for a walk, depends on how much time we have Saturday and Sunday morning.
vitzex@reddit
If you're here on Monday, definitely book a guided tour inside the National Bank. It's free during the week. You need to book 2 working days in advance so do it today.
https://www.bnr.ro/en/24828-visitation-form-adults
The best tourist places to eat traditional food are Hanul lui Manuc and Caru cu Bere - they are both historical monuments too, so it's 2in1: sightseeing + eating. They will require booking.
Otherwise if you just want honest traditional food, locals seem to like La Mahala.
Most traditional food will be familiar to you as a Bulgarian - mici are cevapi with less spices but with mustard, sarma, mamaliga (polenta), all kinds of chorba.
I would suggest trying Bulz (baked polenta, stuffed with cheese/meat/eggs). Hope you don't have that as well xD
Sightseeing areas are basically between Hanul lui Manuc and Ateneul Roman.
You can go further to Strada Arthur Verona if you like street art. There's also free street art maps online.
That street's near a cute bookshop - Carturesti Verona. If you bring children or teens, they might like the basement, that's where the manga is.
Otherwise you'll definitely stumble upon the fancier Carturesti Carusel - the white bookshop in the Old Town.
IMO, an underrated central place is Aleea Dealul Mitropoliei, leading up to the old senate and current Church HQ.
As far as underrated architecture goes, our national style is visible on the University of Architecture (Strada Biserica Enei side). Honourable mention since you're BG: Strada Hristo Botev nr. 3, nearby.
RustCohle_23@reddit
Thank you for all the information. All places bookmarked. Appreciate it!
I will try to organize a tour in the bank, thank you.
Both places you gave look amazing, especially the Caru cu Bere. Unfortunately, it seems to be full for this Saturday, I only found a table for 10 in decent times at the Craftsman's cellar - do you know if this is good?
I sent a request for the other place as well - so we at least have one option available.
We call mamaliga kachamak and it is not the most loved dish here but I will try Bulz just for the experience :D
vitzex@reddit
I think the cellar has little to no decoration, so it'd be underwhelming compared to the main rooms and balconies.

IlerienPhoenix@reddit
Ah, classic. Soviets did something bad? Blame Russians. Soviets did something good? Must be people from the other ex-Soviet republics. You know, soldiers of Ukrainian front marched to Berlin in 1945? 100% Ukrainians. Soldiers who violated German ladies during the very same advance? Exclusively Russians, and there's no contradiction whatsoever.

Names-Are-Confusing@reddit
Why though? Aren’t Serbs and Montenegrins closer to Bosnians culturally; because they fully identify as Balkan, have a fully Balkan culture and have been with you historically for far longer than Croats have? I’ll never get this. You’ll be miles closer to any Serb or any Montenegrin than a Croat from Zagorje, Istria, the islands, Podravina, etc etc etc
daftskunk909@reddit
Mate, I was born in Bosnia and I’ve spent the first 19 years of my life in District, before settling in Belgrade. I had an equal share of best friends from all ethnicities: Bosniaks, Croats and Serbs. During this short period of time, I’ve personally experienced all stages of evolution in our relations: from war, post-war trauma, open-hatred and distrust to curiosity, willingness to overcome the differences, acceptance of the common traits and finally mutual love. Sure, if we want to focus on the differences: yes, I probably don’t have much in common with a kajkavian or an Istrian who never left their house, but I could say the same for such person from the south of Serbia or Vojvodina. And not to even mention the Montenegrins. I understand the part regarding the Croatian islanders too, my brother-in-law(dude from Zagorje, living in Zagreb) considers them as aliens(in a positive sense ofc). He probably visited every single island, and yet he still doesn’t understand the word they say.
As you may see, I gave the high rates to all of our brotherly nations, and for the Montenegrins—I was partly taking the piss. There are countless differences between these nations and the regional sub-groups, but I still consider all of the Western South Slavs as twin brothers; all of the South Slavs as brothers; and finally all of the Slavs as one huge family that’s full of drama.
Thank you listening to my TED Talk, I have to work now. 🖖

Honestly I've really noticed that for a lot of Bulgarians, it changes based on where they lived. If they are in northern BG they are more likely to put Romania first. If they are from south-western/central BG number one is most likely Greece. If they are from south-eastern Bulgaria - very likely Turkey would be their choice for N1. I personally have had amazing experiences with Romania and Turkey, but due to me being just a few hundred km from Greece - they are the people that I have had the closest relationships with. North Macedonia is 4th because I'm living close to them and we visit and talk to each other non-stop. So while the governments are at each others throats, the people near the border don't care. They are fourth though because I think even beyond contemporary politics, when we weren't at each others throats we never developed business, educational exchanges, infrastructure and tourism between each other like we have done with Romania, Greece and Turkey. And Serbia is 5th because I think surprisingly regardless of the fact that wherever we meet - we seem to like and understand each other with the Serbian people(and often drink together), Successive governments of both nations have shown total apathy towards each other. Not negativity not positivity, but just plain ol we won't engage with each other state-wise. Just like with North Macedonia - no infrastructure plans, not a lot of trading, tourism or educational exchanges. And I think this one is the weirdest and both of countries would've been better off by engaging and trading with each other maybe building proper infrastructure so our businesses can trade easily etc...

Well, one “neighbor” attacked us and wants to take our lands. We’ve been attacked from the territory of another country, another country has a bought-and-paid-for president (we used to have that too, but we removed him from power), and yet another country occasionally claims our lands as well (and has invaded us in the past). And all this despite the fact that we have never encroached on чужі землі—even those that were taken from us several decades ago (I’m not talking about the ones that are currently occupied). So we just want to be like Australia or insert the name of another country that only has neighbors across the sea/ocean, except Taiwan.
And this is what my house looked like after the “neighbors” came to my land

I'd say we have mostly okay/neutral relations with all of our neighbours, but if I had to rank them:
Nowadays, I'd say Hungary and Serbia can be interchangeable, tbh.
ClothesZestyclose814@reddit (OP)
I will never get over the fact Serbs and Croats are basically the same people yet hate eachother to death. When did you guys start having conflict, things shouldn't be that bad between you for all history?
Names-Are-Confusing@reddit
We’re not “basically the same people”. Not all of us, at least. Croatia is diverse and Slavonia is very similar to Serbia, especially Vojvodina, but the rest is not the most similar to Serbia. Linguistically, culturally, genetically and historically for example Zagreb and its region have been distant from Serbia and closer to Hungary, Austria and Slovenia. That still stands and I feel the closest to Slovenia and Hungary, then Serbia. Generalizing everyone as “Croats=Serbs” is dumb because it’s only a smaller part of the population.
ClothesZestyclose814@reddit (OP)
You speak the same language, are both South Slavs, you live in the same land (Western Balkans), you only had different conquerors.
Names-Are-Confusing@reddit
We don’t speak the same language though. At least not all of us. Shtokavian is a language spoken by Serbs, Bosnians, Montenegrins, and a number of Croats. But not all. On this map, Shtokavian is yellow and orange. The rest is Chakavian and Kajkavian, different languages with different grammar altogether, but they’re considered dialects for political reasons. I’m a Croat and yet I speak more similarly to a Slovene than a Serb. Also we have way more similarities in culture with Slovenes than with Serbs. Even Serbs recognize that. But you’re a Greek and uneducated on this topic so I don’t know if explaining it is even worth it.
Unable-Stay-6478@reddit
Yes, we're basically the same and we don't hate each other. We're mostly ok with each other irl.
Tensions as a political conflict really started after World War I with the creation of Kingdom of Serbs, Croats and Slovenes, mainly because of disagreements over how the state was organized and who held power.
Sheb1995@reddit
Firstly, calling us "basically the same people" is part of the problem. We can be very similar, but still different, and that is also fine.
Like I said, most Croats have okay to neutral views about all of our neighbours (we have good and bad things to say about all of them) and most don't think about having to rank them in order. But preferring certain neighbours, doesn't automatically mean you hate the rest.
Mutual animosity happened over the last century, primarily centred around WWII and the Yugoslav Wars in the 1990s, as you probably know.
We have lived in peace now for 30+ years and relations have massively improved since the 1990s, but nationalism and tensions remain, just like between Greece and Turkey today, and you guys have been at peace for far longer.

Funny how it’s for some people acceptable to hate Italians but if there is some criticism of Croatian behaviour towards Slovenians then it is labelled as “hate nationalism”.
the_TIGEEER@reddit
> It was literally on the news. And it happened multiple times over summer.
How is that a counterargument? I literally said that the point is that the Slovenians also beat up Croatians. You cna't form your opinion because of some individual events. There is soooo many more stories and situations where Croatians helped out Slovenians at the sea when their car died or when the hotel rejected them or how everyone gets along in Zagreb etc..
> Funny how it’s for some people acceptable to hate Italians but if there is some criticism of Croatian behaviour towards Slovenians then it is labelled as “hate nationalism”.
No. If you check the other replies on this top comment I similaraly called out another (suposedly) Slovenian for being a bigot towards the Italians.
This is your problem. You choose to believe the truth that you wanna hear. "Huh, a Slovenian was beaten up.. Those Croatians are all the same." "Huh, you are attacking me just cuz I'm talking shit about Croatians? You wouldn't do that if it was Italians."

Put it shortly cant stand them.

The Austrians also do that btw you just don't live next to the Austrian border. If that helps you rethink your life mindset on judging whole populations of people.

the_TIGEEER@reddit
> well i know the austrians do that but thats NOT the main thing i dont like italians for
Right, my point was tho that maybe if you see the pattern of how judging whole populations of people based on individual and your biased experiences is irrational, you might make the connection and try not to do it anymore for other reasons as well.
> its MY OWN opinion to wich im entilted to.
Yes, you are. And I am entitled to judge you for it and make my own conclusions about you and at least attempt to give you the other point of view in an attempt to make the society I live in better and not let bigotry run unchallenged.
Because unlike the entire population of Italy. You ARE an individual.

DownvoteEvangelist@reddit
Does Slovenia have gas shortages?
the_TIGEEER@reddit
Not shortages per se, but for some reason we have the cheapest gas prices in the region if not in Europe so our border towns come to fill up theie cars by us which is completly fine.. free trade, schengen, EU and all that.
But so to not run out of gas in specific stations the stations implamented a cap on how much each car can fill up per trip. If it was really a shortage the prices would have risen with supply in demand if you think about it. If we really atarted running out of gass the prices wouldn't be one of the cheapest anymore. Right now limiting to x amount per car fill seems more like a strategy to make logistics easier so individual stations don't run out with the wave of neighbours coming in to fill their cars.
I don't know the reason for lower gass prices in Slovenia, but I think it has to do with the election we just had. That being the current goverment not wanting higher prices before election voting. So we will see what the future brings.

I won't deny that Moldova owes A LOT to Romania, but u calling Romanians beyond the Prut "russians" that is disrespectful, by that logic, the Romanians in Transylvania are a bunch of Hungarians cuz they speak Hungarian, see? that IS SUPER disrespectful to the Romanian population in Transylvania, so it is disrespectful to us!
i understand there are extreme sides on both the Moldovan and Romanian side, but at the end of the day, why instigate such arguments and stupid brainrot ones? Maritime borders makes it way more fun bc we have a lot with territories; Japan, UK, New Zealand or Netherlands probably. Least favorite would probably be Russia. I want to visit one day and although I know a lot of great Russians that live in the states, a lot of Russian tourists when visiting other countries have left a sour taste in my mouth with how they as a whole treat other societies, particularly when I was in South Vietnam.

Impressive_Bid9749@reddit
Why do you think that us Albanian are horrible, be honest
Inevitable_Touch2432@reddit
Actually Albania is a rare exception from our neighbourghs. They don't care enough to involve themselves in Macedonia's internal affairs which is great, but they also don't care enough to build strong connections and a network of cooperation. This is why I ranked Albania after Serbia. Serbia has tried substantially more to be an ally and friend of Macedonia than Albania. Kosovo I ranked after Albania because even though we hosted 300,000+ of their refugees in 1999, members of their UCK helped our rebels start a civil war. Also I've heard the rhetoric that macedonians are occupying slavs on illyrian lands from Albanians more than i've heard macedonians are south serbs from Serbians. This is where my political distrust for Albanians comes from.
Impressive_Bid9749@reddit

What's wrong with Ukraine?
Carbastan24@reddit
Historically we don't have the best relations. We used to consider them "basically Russians" and they treat the Romanian minority by far the worst out of all the neighbours.
Opinions have changed obviously but it's not about this. Ukraine seems the most alien/Soviet-like culture. They are not Balkan, not in the EU, no Romanian ever visits the country even before the war etc. It's not that I don't like them it's just that I am the most indifferent to them (geopolitics aside)
mw2lmaa@reddit
Ah thanks.
You should send them some stuff they need to end this Transnistria clownshow. Everything outside the Russian base in Tiraspol should be done before noon. They then have a lot of time to starve the base into submission.
After that they can keep the place and give you some Romanian speaking Danube villages in return.
Carbastan24@reddit
It's been actually discussed in the last decades the idea of exchanging Transnistria (in a future unified Romania+Moldova) for Herța (a region in Ukraine that has a large Romanian majority and it's also right near the border with Romania). I think it's pure fantasy but.. Who knows. Maybe one day.
mw2lmaa@reddit
There's a window of opportunity now. It's very hard to invade from Moldova, across the river, but very easily from Ukraine. No natural barriers and only a few km wide, and they're at war with Russia anyway. What could Russia do about it? Bomb Ukraine?

This kind of response is not surprising from a bulgarian like you. It is difficult to understand why some Bulgarians are surprised by negative reactions from Macedonians. From a Macedonian perspective, the events of World War II involved Bulgarian forces killing , torturing and discrimination against the Macedonians while aligned with Nazi Germany. And then bulgarians will denying these events or framing them solely as “liberation” from Yugoslavia. That makes us even more outraged. A comparable example would be if the Ottoman Empire framed its rule as liberation from the Serbs or the Byzantine Empire, and then the turks questioned the Bulgarians why they hate them lol. And after all that, they saw us that we are disparate to join the European Union even changed our name. And out of nowhere your government veto us. Claiming that the Bulgarians have no rights in Macedonia ( like the Macedonians in Bulgaria got any rights to begin with)
canyoubelieveitt@reddit
The issue does not come from denying of alleged war crimes. The issue comes from your denying of that majority of Macedonian population did perceive it as liberation. There is video materials about it, there are interviews with time witnesses. Your propaganda history features only one side of events, namely a communist fabricated version of events. So much so going back falsifying, obstructing documents, even editing names on gravestones. I can see from your post alone that you dont want to know any real information, such as that the veto has been lifted since 3 years and your incapable politicians are not able to close any progress chapter with the EU, solely blaming everything on us. Or that our cultural clubs in Macedonia get constantly vandalized and burned whilst yours stood here absolutely unharmed and closed down by themselves because NOBODY was going to these clubs since there simply is no Macedonian minority here except people calling themselves as regional ethnicity Macedonian, which are also the most nationalistic Bulgarians there are. Just make yourself the effort check some names on Wiki or in some books you claim and then switch the language from Macedonian to English or German or Russian or Chinese or whatever and learn about reality.

About Croatia, I’ve been to Dubrovnik and Zagreb and both were good, never had any issues. Can’t say anything in depth about Bulgaria because I only visited Sofia once but I liked it. Romania is a mixed bag, there are pros and cons however it really leans towards typical Eastern Europe experience unfortunately. Bosnia and north Macedonia are both no for me, personal taste, not into low budget countries without either pretty coastal cities or big developed cities. Albania is obviously low because the things are the way they are. I had very positive but also very negative experience with Albanians so I feel like it deserves to be here. And Montenegro is a place I absolutely would never go to, it ticks every personal dislike box so it’s proper last.

Umm... Why, I don't seem to know. Turkey is a top tourist and shopping destination for a lot of people. Currently it ranks well above the bottom and maybe even above Serbia, given the rhetoric spewing out of Vucic's government.
Checky_3rd@reddit
either because Turkiye is the literal successor to the Ottoman Empire that supressed and enslaved the balkans for centuries and the Balkans had a whole-ass league to take on the Empire,
or because Turkish people are just inherently so despised to be around on average. Not saying every turk is bad or anything, but most balkan countries are christian orthodox with close ties in tradition and culture, and then u have Turkiye, a Islamic country with a different culture originating outside the region and having different traditions.
PVanchurov@reddit
Isn't that like ... history? I've been to Turkey more times than I can count and have never, ever, gotten the sense that I'm in the wrong place. While the culture is a bit different, most people aren't. And yes, I know some Turks who are assholes but those are the ones you see abroad "studying" and acting like they own the place, life fucks them back in their place at some point.
Mind you, there are places in Bulgaria, particularly in the Rhodope mountains that feel like they are stuck in Ottoman times, try visiting, it's a good change of scenery.
Checky_3rd@reddit
I understand ur point, like I said, not all turks are the same, we all are flawed human beings representing ourselves differently in the world, not saying us Romanians are any better, or Bulgarians are better or worse or anything.
Just saying that ON AVERAGE, if you put a Turk, and a greek, bulgarian or romanian in a room, I am almost entirely sure that the balkan person would find SOMETHING that they dislike about the turk, and u can replace the turk with any other turk, so u wont say that its cuz of one turk's personality only.
Again, I am NOT saying that the Turkish people are bad or anything, its just that for specific people, they would dislike the turks more than other specific people.
The cultural and traditional things that differentiate them are just contradictory in nature, and at some point, they would find a disagreement with each other.

As a Turk:
ClothesZestyclose814@reddit (OP)
I'm sorry but is there anything your government didn't do to make an enemy out of Greece and Greek people in general? It's like they do everything to be our enemies, from Hagia Sophia to random war threats to blue homeland bs. I mean, can you blame us?
About Syria, why do you see them as burden to the Turkish econony? I would believe they can be used as cheap labor, that wouldn't help the economy?
Western_Fox_4253@reddit
Governments do what they do. I think they meant that Turkish people in general don’t see Greece as a big threat while things are different on the other side of the sea.
As for Syria, I think the numbers play a role here in terms of cheap labor vs economic burden. 4 million Syrian refugees put a burden on welfare system and domestic work market while unemployment is already a big problem in Türkiye.
ClothesZestyclose814@reddit (OP)
Greeks don't see Turkey as a threat, we know that attacking us would be a suicide mission and an absolute disaster. We see it more as a meme honestly, to make fun of both our governments that obviously do this show for the right-wing votes.
Are all these Syrians living on welfare? Are they not integrated into the local economy yet? When we had a massive influx of Albanian immigrants they did fill a good chunk of cheap labor for decades.
Western_Fox_4253@reddit
No, not all live on welfare but most Syrian women are housewives and they have a much higher birthrate than Turkish people. And to be honest, cheap labor generally means exploitation of work force when the market is not regulated properly.
Erozbey@reddit
When the goal is to win votes, both the Turkish and Greek governments are doing everything in their power. Besides, there’s no smoke without fire. The concept of the “Blue Homeland” was born because of the Greek government wish to extend the maritime zone from 6 to 12 miles. The reconversion of Hagia Sophia into a mosque is seen by some as a provocation against the Greeks, while others argue it was already a mosque.
As for the issue of Syrians... We faced problems such as the right to attend university freely, the difficulty of finding work, and the constant clash between two different cultures. Thanks to the government, Kurds were treated as the first people and Turks as the second; when the Syrians arrived, we fell to third place.
ClothesZestyclose814@reddit (OP)
The difference is extending our maritime zone from 6 to 12 miles is our right under International Law, while the "Blue Homeland" has no legal basis whatsoever. You will tell me you didn't sign UNCLOS, but that doesn't change the fact that this is this is how the rest of the world works. You have a geographical weakness, that's all.
Hagia Sophia was a museum, converting the symbol of the Greek Orthodox Church to a mosque is the greatest provocation against us. Meanwhile Greece has magnanimously converted the birthplace of your founding father into a museum dedicated to him.
Let's not pretend it's a 50-50 situation, the provocations are overwhelmingly coming from one side.
Erozbey@reddit
It is provocative enough to want to increase the limit from 6 miles to 12 miles. You have already increased the maritime boundary—which was originally limited to 3 miles under the first agreement—to 6 miles. The Blue Homeland is a threat from your perspective. I accept that. This is likely the reason you cannot up to 12-mile. It is partly a matter of power. Turkey has enough power to declare a casus belli.
I totally understand where you’re standing on Hagia Sophia. If someone turned Islam’s holiest site into a cathedral, all kinds of drama would probably happen. It’s a sensitive issue—as I said, politicians will do anything to get votes.
roflstones@reddit
The Hagia Sophia things also irritates most secular population of Turkey as well. The government is fingering wounds to irritate even its own people. Like nowadays they decided to build a huge ass mosque in one of the most secular coastal districts and people hate it. They are just masturbating with all that stuff. Syrian refugees are indeed what you've said they are. The government treats them as cheap labor which of course lowers the labor costs and increases the unemployement rates as a result. Many people hate them just cuz they are full of hate.

jellobend@reddit
I don’t dislike Armenia and I think Pashinyan is on the right track in trying to mend ties with Turkey. So future might be bright.
It’s just that, there’s too much animosity existing currently. I would like to visit Armenia for example, eat its food, experience its culture etc, but I don’t think I would be welcomed as a Turk. That’s why I put it in the bottom of my list.
roflstones@reddit
They didn't say they don't like Armenia. It's just their personal ranking. I personally think Greeks, Balkan/Anatolian Turks and Armenians share a common heritage, we like/dislike similar things. We'been part of the same 2 empires since forever. There are racists people across all these nations that hate each other without ever meeting one. We all get along the best once we live abroad in another country, we understand each other and make fun of the same quirks of other people that's not from these lands. I will be happy to have you as a room mate and appreciate if you make Tzatziki for dinner, and you will be happy if I bring out the Raki to go along with it if we both shared an apartment in say Los Angeles, don't you agree? That's at least my experience with my neighbours.

Checky_3rd@reddit
Doesn't* It did prior to the 1940 annexation of Bessarabia and North Bukovina by the USSR. Unlike you, my grandfather and his father LIVED THROUGH the process of mass deportation of Romanians to Siberia, heck, MY OWN great-grandfather and great-uncle were deported to Siberia, and many other relatives too being deported all across the Soviet Union, and many other nationalities coming in their stead, such as Russians for the most part. Stalin also made the modern-day ukraine borders, which includes north bukovina and south bessarabia, and the romanian population there dwindled to a few thousands at best by the year 1992. Idk about today.
So instead of trying to get a "gotcha" on me, try learning some history my guy and learn humility.

Justanotherbastard2@reddit

the-greek-geek-@reddit
We dont share land borders but we share sea borders and the countries are physically really close to each other. Add to that the fact that we have always had great relations with each other and we both have been a major influence in each other’s culture. We even have a common saying that we are “one face, one race”.
PomegranateOk2600@reddit
You have a land border with Italy?
the-greek-geek-@reddit
No, I already covered the reasons behind my selection of Italy under the other comment above
Checky_3rd@reddit
Why even include Italy? You do not have a land border with the Italians, unless ur counting Albania as a vassal of Italy or something 😂
If ur counting sea borders, then that is no fair, because then u would have to count the african countries, Cyprus and the middle east coast countries too. And for the other balkan countries, they would also have to count other countries due to the black see and adriatic sea.
the-greek-geek-@reddit
I guess it’s an oxymoron mentioning Italy and not at least the African countries (I don’t think we share sea borders with countries in the Middle East but I might be wrong) I guess it’s just that the Italians and ourselves have always seen each other as neighbors
Checky_3rd@reddit
I mean , yea, I COULD understand that, the Hellenes and the Italians are very similar in culture and history. But it's a bit far-fetched to include them into a land-border comparison yk?

Greeks also love visiting Turkey, most of us have visited Istanbul at least once (I've been three times) and do day trips when we visit Greek islands next to Anatolia (again done that three times hahah).
Also, what do you mean Turkey helps the Greek islands with problems before Greece? And what do you mean distance? I will not rate but give my personal opinion
Let's begin from West to East.
Greece: Good. We have every reason to have problem together so our relations seems to be eternally doomed but I don't think about them negatively. They are fine. Plus, they have a cool history and culture that I know many Turks also like. I also admire them for preserving their language and alphabet for the longest time.
Bulgaria: Good. We don't hear about you guys a lot. Some trolls on internet often declare them as Slavised Turks but other than that we are fine I guess. Same as Greece, I like Bulgarian culture as well. Plus, same admiration with Greece.
Syria: I don't know. I don't hate Syria, how can you hate a country that impossible to have diplomatic relations at all. Syria is not a stable country that I can make comment about.
Iraq: Neutral. We don't talk about them at all. It has cool history though.
Georgia: Good. I admire them for preserving their culture, language and alphabet even though they have been conquered at least once by every neighbor of them. I also really like their Folk music.
Armenia: Neutral. Exact same admiration to Georgia applies to Armenia as well. I want to mention Turkish Armenian relations a little bit here. People often ask whether Greece-Turkey or Armenia-Turkey relation is worst. Guys we don't talk with Armenia and Armenians at all. Greeks and Turks at least constantly trolling each other this doesn't happen with Armenia at all. I feel cold winds when I hear the country Armenia. I understand the reason of course. Until some progress between relations, neutral is the best we can get.
Iran: Good. Great people, terrible government. I admire their culture and history. I hope their protests will be successful.
Azerbaijan: Good. I don't need to explain much but only thing that they are even worse tyranny and have even worse media than us. So I don't trust news related with Azerbaijan news much.

JRJenss@reddit
Yeah, that's it. Nowadays, they mostly gather in the Una-Sana canton and sometimes in canton 10? I think it's called, and from there they are trying to cross the border through the woods of Lika and even crossing the river. Some of them attempt the mountain route over Dinara. It's crazy dangerous for them and on our part it requires lots of manpower, as well as drones equipped with IR and thermal cameras. Anyhow, these days it mostly boils down to search and rescue missions, along with trying to keep tabs on the traffickers on both sides and arresting them.

I don't. I employ them, lol! For real tho, they are great workers.
It's really hard to protect the external EU border towards Bosnia, because people that gather there are desperate. Just recently a bunch of Chinese drowned in the Una river. Our search and rescue crews were looking after the survivors the entire night and saved only a few because it was cold. Similar incidents take place all the time.
MrVyper42@reddit
We complain about migrants all the time, be it legal or illegal.

As a Romanian, I like all neighbors, with a preference for Serbia, because the Serbians are awesome people.

My favorite neighbour is Serbia, they are on the north

Moldova: 10/10, good moods, good music and good wine and cuisine; Ukraine: 10/10, the good guys; Bulgaria: 10/10, they are kind persons; Hungary: 10/10, we don't hate each other; Serbia: 10/10, didn't met one but they are our neighbors and we should be friends!

What did Greece do to you 🥀
Bobinho4@reddit
Nothing against the country. Besides the Black sea, I made the list based on where I have more friends/stronger friendships.
If I do another list based on tourism it will be: 1. Turkey 2. Greece 3. Romania 4. North Macedonia and 5. Serbia.

Bulgaria, Albania, North Macedonia, Turkey, only counting land borders.

For me:
Montenegro = Romania = North Macedonia = Bosnia = Bulgaria = Kosovo = Croatia >>>>>>>>>>> "Angry border crossing procedures" Hungary
Your_Angel21@reddit
Feels too bad to say because even the last on the list I don't dislike at all. But I'll say Moldova #1 and Bulgaria is a close second.

Starting with least favourite, as a Greek, my least favourite is easily Turkey. I've never had a bad experience with the people in real life, internet trolls are another thing, but the country itself and its actions easily make it number one.
After that I'd say North Macedonia for the complete lack of self-awareness they show. Taking someone else's identity and then trying to play victim and talking about right to self determination.
Then probably Croatia and Bosnia who have almost nothing to do with Greece yet seem to have a dislike.
Then Albania, who we also have some hostilities with, but they're also probably the most similar people to Greeks.
Bulgarians, Romanians and Serbs are cool.
I'd probably say the South Italians across the sea are my favourite.
Checky_3rd@reddit
we don't count the Griko considering how Italy does not border Greece, but I agree with your list.
Mastermindkrug2@reddit
Kosovo is Serbia
Checky_3rd@reddit
I mean, does it count if I rank twice? Since I was born in Moldova, but live in Greece?
Moldova:
1- Romania
2- Ukraine (wish I could delete them.)
Greece:
1-Bulgaria
2-Albania (entirely interchangable with my Bulgarian friends)
3-North Macedonia
4-Turkiye
Positive_Feedback_82@reddit
Western Turks are so similar to Greeks its frightening.

I've only been to three other Balkan countries - Greece (Athens and Thessaloniki), Romania (Bucharest) and Slovenia (Maribor) so I'm afraid I can't rank only three countries.
