$30 is the cheapest transfer fee I've heard of for NFA. My local FFL used to have $25 transfers for normal firearms but they doubled it last year which puts them more in line with others in the area. All of the ones around me were $100 for NFA items.

I could be wrong, but I am fairly certain they are not allowed to do that. Any ffl with a kiosk has made an agreement with silencershop that they will offer free transfers on all silencershop cans. It states it here:

I just found another post that someone posted this same thing and silencer shop commented that suppressors ordered through their site and sent to powered dealers, there should not be transfer fees and they will look into it and get it corrected. Well I guess I’m snitching because I would’ve ordered through silencer shop multiple times.

Yeah, that’s fucking ludicrous. They 100% are not supposed to charging for SS transfers. I would bet that they have all of their inventory marked too high to actually sell any decent volume and instead of lowering prices, they try to make it up by charging outrageous FFL fees. More places like Capitol Armory and Silencer Central are starting to ship to your door. NFA transfers were to pay for storage fees while you wait for 1 year approvals, now they’re just charging it for access to NFA items. It kills the deal if you have to pay $100+ for someone to handle paperwork which they can mess up on as well.

I’ve got one (Sparrow Stainless) and confirmed no FRP on my short barreled rifle. It’s only pistols like below 5” that it gets the first round pop.

This is so untrue…l’ve had the Sparrow since 2013. It’s an absolutely awful decision to buy one in 2026. It ranks among the worst silencers out there for FRP which is detectable on every gun I own (up to 16”) and will downright ring your bell on short barreled guns.
I think you’re absolutely throwing away good money when for $400 you can buy the Tiger 22 and have one of the best ones on the market (or any other printed can in this range.)
Or a traditional construction can like the OCL Ti, Mask, Oculus….all are many tiers better than the Sparrow. For, what? A hundred bucks more?
I say this on repeat - those who are recommending the Sparrow in 2026 either 1) Have nothing to compare their Sparrow to 2) aren’t able to save another $100 (totally understandable and valid - I’ve been there) or 3) they’re just downright mean spirited. I’m beginning to believe that the latter is the case more and more 4) they’re okay with lying about its performance or don’t care about performance (there are a lot of people who aren’t able to objectively quantify and qualify products - it’s crazy but I’d argue a large majority of people fit into this category.)
And for a 22 you’re ABLE TO GET MOVIE QUIET, so don’t blow your opportunity to have that.
I’ll get downvoted to hell and back for offering a contrary opinion, always do when I’m critical about things people own (and aren’t honest or don’t have a top tier can to compare it to) but I would be so f’ing pissed if someone I thought had my best interest at heart recommended the Sparrow and then I learned what I know now. It’s just mean.

Cheap/middle/best with Sparrow being cheap - middle would be OCL Ti, Mask, Oculus, etc…best being CAT SR, Tiger 22, and probably some others.
In reality the price difference from low to high (excluding crazy deals and the SR, lol) is only about $200, max, with most hitting that $350-$450 price range.
I bet nearly 80% of rimfire cans are in that price range.

Thank you that's incredibly helpful. Just one more question if I may, what about the Ambient Arms Stratos 22? I know my FFL has that in stock for sure at $499 iirc. I don't even own a .556 nor intend to, and I think I'm chasing the Tiger 22 because of its 'all roundedness' but reviews do seem great in terms of dB too also size/weight (I'm talking myself back into the Tiger right here evidently). Haven't heard much about the Stratos. I own a S&W 22x pistol and want to use it with that and my 10/22 that's all really. I really appreciate the advice thanks again

I don’t know anything about the Stratos, I think it’s nearly brand new, so might take awhile to get objective reviews. I’d be a bit reluctant to buy an unreviewed can, but the company itself looks very promising.
Your pistol is the one to worry about as far as getting good suppression. That’s where I’d personally be disappointed with a Sparrow, it’ll be fine on the 10/22.
look at Pew Science for objective analysis. If someone says their Stratos is quieter than their Oculus you can look up the Oculus on PS and see how it performs.
Honesty most of the newer cans are really good. That’s why it’s hard to recommend a Sparrow especially when for $100 more you’d be in a top performer.

You’re also throwing away good money on a $400 tiger22 - blems pop up for 225 all the time. Once the bt website adds product back i would say they will be available again. I really like mine but its not as quiet as people say

I’ve listened to just about every tiger video possible and i agree its not life changing as some make it out to be. Disregard what the people in the video say and just listen to the sounds and its not much difference.
Also dont think the print x line of cans will be a long term thing anymore with their current situation

I have 3 other 22 suppressors to compare against.
Yes the Sparrow is overbuilt (a bit heavy) and has FRP on Pistols…
But I’d still recommend Sparrow as a good suppressor for 22LR rifle and especially for “rapid firing” of very high round counts (I have a MG lower) the Sparrow can take an entire day of full-auto drum magazines, and still able to disassemble and clean without locked-up inside (from melted lead deposits that form inside).
