Was RTX 5060 a bad choice?

Long story short, I recently upgraded from am4 to am5 and I had Rx 6600 or RX 7600 as the GPU in my budget but when i got everything else I need but the gpu for good price, I started looking for more GPUs and the shop suggested rtx 5060 which was very costly like 400 dollars but still within my budget but I didn't have much info on it as that was never in my budget, later after coming home all I see is just bad reviews of it, because of it not having enough vram and such, I'm not sure which other graphics card would have been a good choice in that price range
givenr@reddit
There’s no bad gpu just bad prices
BulkyInitiative9441@reddit (OP)
I love that 🥲
curiousdugong@reddit
And you paid a bad price
POLDIIZZ@reddit
If i bought it for 320 euros is bad? msi x2 dual Fan
Lucky____Ducky@reddit
For a bad card ;)
ProfSnipe@reddit
Wrong. The card is good, but again not for that price.
Lucky____Ducky@reddit
Naw it sucks. Better to get the RX 7700 XT
POLDIIZZ@reddit
For 320 euros is bad? I bought new rtx 5060 8gb ram MSI x2 dual fan
CtrlAltDesolate@reddit
Except for the gtx1030 2gb, 100% this - that is a good damn terrible GPU haha.
JonWood007@reddit
It had its uses. It was an acceptable $80 product...8-10 years ago....
Xaan83@reddit
Barely. It was basically a PCIE HDMI port for systems either no integrated graphics, but any $50 used GPU was better than it so.. pointless card. It terms of performance, you had to go all the way back to the 2014 GTX 750 Ti to find another card that was as slow as it was. Literally every other card released after the 750 Ti was faster, and yet tons of mom and pop computer shops sold overpriced gaming systems to parents based on the lie that the GT 1030 was a good gaming card for their kid because the number looked big.
JonWood007@reddit
Uh i think this was sloser than a 750 ti, more like a 650. But still, I'm showing my age, but I remember when that was considered high end.
Given the 2 GB VRAM it actually was a bit more robust than those early 1 GB models.
It wasnt great, but again, for like 2017 standards, it was something. Like, it would at least get you into the games at the bare minimum performance settings.
CtrlAltDesolate@reddit
Don't get me wrong, still keep mine as a testing GPU when I get something in without onboard / troubleshooting. But yea...
JonWood007@reddit
Yeah these days its basically integrated level.
Antenoralol@reddit
The GTX 1630, RX 6500 XT etc etc
Round_Thanks_2780@reddit
I can run HD games like nobody’s business on my 4060. I can occasionally run 1440p on somewhat high settings and get 60+ fps.
You are fine.
RiskIntelligent3789@reddit
Forget the 5060... Take the RX 9060 XT 16gb...
SnooWalruses2932@reddit
If u go 5060 go 5060 TI 16gb will help with gaming at 1080p if ur looking for good 1440p 9060xt or 9070 or 9070xt but if u stay with nvidia 5070 or 5070ti or u can also go 2nd n get 4070 ti
Immediate-Garden-620@reddit
Ignore anything online and just enjoy your PC, the 5060 is fine and will run the games you want it to run.
BulkyInitiative9441@reddit (OP)
This is one way to see it, which is kinda real, there's real not much I can afford with my tight budget, thank you.
fuelforyoursoul@reddit
''your cpu sucks, it gets only 300 fps on 720p ultra low with a gtx 5090''
S4aD_BK@reddit
I have the same question but different situation i never had a gpu like i played my entire life on intel uhd graphics and some CPUs that have like this graphic card integrated and i want to buy this week an RTX 5060 8GB what's your opinion ?
BulkyInitiative9441@reddit (OP)
Depends on the price and definitely the kind of games you play, the issue for me is i overpaid in a way that the prices are more than what I see in other countries and vram is not mostly an issue in the games i play and I don't really have plans for 1440p gaming, it is more of just the price + what other gpu i could have gotten around the price I paid for this.
S4aD_BK@reddit
You're right about the price/performance, but the thing is, the RTX 5060 is listed for $400 and up on Amazon and everywhere else right now. If I find it for less, I’ll definitely grab it. Otherwise, what other GPU do you think is worth getting for that same price? (It's my first build)
BulkyInitiative9441@reddit (OP)
I would definitely go with something like RX 7600xt or just any 12gb good vram card min, assuming i had planned better from the start and the gpu is only a 100 dollars more
Calm_Ambition_9430@reddit
i just recently got my new prebuilt with 5060, all that i can say is that this card provide more than enough for my daily gaming at 1080p. I can do everyday task and gaming smoothly and even ultra settings on some titles. dlss and fg truly helps with the fps. im pretty satisfied with the peformance it delivers for budget friendly. make sure the card runs your game and i dont think theres any problem.
BulkyInitiative9441@reddit (OP)
Hey, how much did you buy your 5060 for
Calm_Ambition_9430@reddit
its like 298$~ in my country
BulkyInitiative9441@reddit (OP)
Did i overpay by a lot lol
Calm_Ambition_9430@reddit
im not sure since it varies among countries, maybe try to survey on other shops?
iWeazzel@reddit
I'm still rocking a 4060 and have no complaints, I play pretty much whatever I want at 1440p 60+ all of the time, unless u are playing new and unoptimized games, u shouldn't have a problem with that 5060 at all.
Could've chosen something different? I guess, sure, but it's not bad at all and you're gonna be happy either way, don't let ppl (especially on the internet...) discourage you, just close the reviews, install a game and enjoy your newly built pc.
N4t3ski@reddit
Nothing wrong with the 5060 for 1080p gaming.
Ignore the enthusiasts for whom anything more then 6 months old and not at the bleeding edge of the tech is considered a "bad card".
If you have ideas of 1440p, you may find it lacking as it only has 8gb of ram. For a lot of people, thats gonna be plenty for the time being, but may be something that I pacts future AAA title playability for you.
WingerRules@reddit
5060 is more powerful than majority of people are using in steam survey, and steam survey is skewed by people who fill it out because they want to show off their system.
2raysdiver@reddit
People who dis on the RTX 5060 have never used a RTX 5060. it is a good card. It is excellent for 1080p. It isn't bad for 1440p, although you may have to drop settings a bit on demanding games.
m4tic@reddit
You mean the person selling the cards suggested you buy what they are selling? The 5060 is a fine card, just this situation reeks of exploitation via upsell.
Flimsy-Comment7431@reddit
yeah man it will maximize your performance
JonWood007@reddit
As someone with a 6650 xt, yes and this is why im waiting. The 5060 is only 50% faster (current card comparable to like a 5050), its well over $300, and it still only has 8 gb.
Im waiting for 2x performance with 12+ gb for under $300. Not happening any time soon but that's what I consider a reasonable target given past technological progress. Market is busted right now though.
StunningPush8421@reddit
its fine it is a solid gpu much better than the 6600 or 7600 so that is a plus
NarutoDragon732@reddit
Imo id count dlss quality as part of the performance when comparing, because that's something I'd actually always turn on compared to fsr pre 4.0.
If you REALLY cared you could compare dlss with fsr 4 int 8 via optiscaler, but this is getting ridiculous for what's effectively a -$50 from Nvidia.
SinisterPixel@reddit
Does it play the games you want to play and play them well?
If yes: It was a good choice
Plenty_Article11@reddit
Bruh, I have a 3070 that is faster I would literally sell for half that.
For 400 you could have been into a used 4070 which is 30% faster, never mind it has 12GB of VRAM
LengthMysterious561@reddit
Where the hell are you getting 4070s for 5060 money?
Plenty_Article11@reddit
Used market, lots of people moving to 5070 5080, dumping their 4070.
AShamAndALie@reddit
Probably would have been better off staying in AM4, getting something like a used 5700X3D and buying a better GPU.
MyStationIsAbandoned@reddit
if it's good enough for your needs, it's a good card. you're not going to get a good answer from some people here including me because our needs are gonna be different. i needed a 4080 or 4090 for my workstation and i needed to build on the spot because my old PC died and I had deadlines to fulfill.
so I had to buy a 4080super, because the 4090 was twice as expensive at the time. i had planned to wait for the 5090, but it wasn't out at the time. but i did what I had to and would never get a 5060 unless it was as a backup, but that's because my PC is for work and gaming.
so now i'm waiting for the 6090 because the number is funny.
parliboy@reddit
It's not going to be handing the bleeding edge stuff, but it's way better than a lot of people have.
From my perspective, I'm still sitting on a 2070 while I'm waiting for things to get sane, but a 5060 would be a fine upgrade from where I am.
T2_daBest@reddit
Yeah a lot of the bad reviews are prices and vram but even with the newer titles that card is not running those higher then like a medium/ high setting so vram right now is not too much issue. It could be in the future but I think people make it more than it is.
TheMinisterOChlorine@reddit
No, not for AM5, well, it was overpriced but as long as you are on AM5 and PCIE 5 it's a good card, anything below will make drop the 1% lows like crazy and also introduce stutter thanks to the 8x pcie.
It's a capable card so don't sweat it.
sakara123@reddit
Personally I'd go with a 9060xt over a 5060 any day, but you're fine.
BulkyInitiative9441@reddit (OP)
9060xt is like almost 100 dollars more than 5060 here.
Vb_33@reddit
9060XT sucks unless you get the 16GB version for cheap. Otherwise the 5060 bodies it at everything that matters from AI upscaling, to productivity application performance, to power efficiency.Â
TrinityYGO@reddit
In my experience the 9060xt my friend had, is roughly the same as my 5060TI. I don’t think the 5060 is better than the 9060
SmokBarrage@reddit
fps is not an important metric to this person. what does matter is the 30 watts less the 5060 uses and how sick dlss 5 looks.
vaurapung@reddit
Till I get my super duper graphics pack in Minecraft all those fancy buzzwords dont mean anything to me. But Microsoft killed that dream for me, something about all the work was on the pre bedrock engine and they couldnt recreate it in bedrock. None of the mods look as amazing as what was presented for the xbox 1x in the sdgp at E3.
TDEcret@reddit
then with your budget the 5060 is best option.
the 5060 is seen as "bad" because 8GB is "bad" because futureproofing and all that, but in reality a 5060 with be able to play anything for the next several years, specially if you play in 1080p
in more demanding games you will have to tweak settings, but i doubt there will be any games soon that it wont be able to run
Coolman_Rosso@reddit
Unless you're intending to jump up from 1080p to 1440p, it's really just an insurance policy of sorts if you don't want to set stuff to med/low. Sometimes I forget that even a very optimized game like Forza Horizon 5 actually can break the VRAM buffer at 1080p, but only when playing on the very much superfluous overkill Extreme preset (where it will use 9.5-10GB) which most people won't bother with.
shrout1@reddit
Yeah, the games will still be playable! I went from a 2070 Super to a 5070ti and I definitely notice atmospheric effects and smoke, but the differences these days aren’t as “revolutionary” as they used to be, more “evolutionary”.
My dad bought a 5060ti to upgrade his 2070 and it’s fine! Updated driver support, lower power consumption and a moderate performance boost. It will be totally usable for him for a while.
unfortunateshun@reddit
Than you’ve answered your own question my friend. You’re building in a historically shitty consumer pc bubble. Build the rig you can and enjoy it.
Impossible_Run1867@reddit
Hear hear
farmeunit@reddit
It is also much better. Ultimately, can you play what you want at the resolution you want. It's the worst card in the stack, aside from the 5050, so not sure what you expect.
That being said, it might be fine for the games you play. Just try it.
sakara123@reddit
Rough, it's essentially the other way around here. 5060 8gbs are selling for the same as a 16gb 9060xt, it's even funnier at the high end where several of the 16gb 5060 ti cards are 200+ more than a 9060.
captain_slutski@reddit
I'm happy with my 5060 and I use a 2k monitor
crazyjerryyy@reddit
Ngl, if it runs the games you play at the settings you want, it was the right choice. Too many people get caught up in what's 'best' instead of what works for them.
ApprehensiveItem4150@reddit
It's a decent GPU for 1080p gaming
elonelon@reddit
now, you need upgrade that VRAM
PowerfulAgent9939@reddit
For 1080p it’s gOAT
Antenoralol@reddit
If the 5060 does everything you need it to do then No, it wasn't a bad choice.
The 9060 XT may be a better GPU but if it was out of budget then it's out of budget.
RoseMqs@reddit
I'd stop looking online and just enjoy your purchase. The biggest thing about these subreddits is most peoples opinions are based on benchmarks, and not actually what you personally need. For about a year and a half I was rocking a 4060, which was also super hated at the time. That card served me perfectly well, even in more demanding games I played like Helldivers 2. With things like frame gen and dlss, most issues with lower end cards and gaming aren't nearly as prevalent as they might've been before..
CommandShot1398@reddit
Well, depends. If you can sell those two, and return the 5060, I think you can get at least 5060ti 8GB, if not 5070. But, if you can't, don't bother yourself and enjoy what you have. I bought 5070 so I can play games. But nowdays games are either ridiculously overpriced, or simply sht. So I end up playing only CS2, which I could still do with 3060.
LengthMysterious561@reddit
I think a lot of people are overdramatic about 8gb of VRAM. I've been using a 6gb laptop, and haven't run into any VRAM issues. You just have to turn down a few settings and you'll be fine.
Unfortunately, in the current market 8gb is to be expected at that price point. The only exception would be the B580/B570, but they have their own problems with game compatibility.
Aside from the VRAM the 5060 is pretty great. The performance is really impressive. Not to excuse Nvidia, I'm also disappointed that the 5060 is 8gb, but it is what it is.
chizburger999@reddit
Back in August you could've bought a 5060 Ti 16GB at the same price. wtf happened
DadBud512@reddit
5060 is a good GPU ignore all the negativity you will see online
MatthewSWFL229@reddit
A 6700 XT was my first graphics card and going to Nvidia with any card is going to be an upgrade considering how terrible their drivers are
SketchTeno@reddit
I just made the same purchase off newegg... and i have no regrets. Fits my build, and the hassle of overanalizing vs the convenience cost of knowing i got a solid upgrade for my machine is alright with me! (Upping from a gtx 1060)
altiuscitiusfortius@reddit
Gpu prices are going to keep going up insane amounts for at least 5 years.
Your gonna be damn happy you got a 5060 at that price
Environmental-Rub933@reddit
In terms of price for performance, the 5060 is about the standard in 2026. For better or worse
spyder616@reddit
Could have just went with the 5060 TI
IrrelevantTale@reddit
Your fine a 5060 isn't a bad GPU.
cream_of_human@reddit
Id say you shouldn't feel bad about it i mean, in a general context, it is a god awful card but hey, its around 33% faster compared to a 7600 and more so with a 6600.
TortieMVH@reddit
For that price and performance brand new there is nothing comparable. I would take this over the 9060xt especially if it is $100 cheaper.
realWulfLives@reddit
400 is alright. Wouldn't pay more for it though.
clone2197@reddit
It's a fine choice. Its much better than 6600 and the rx 7600. It also have access to good features like dlss 4.5, frame gen, smooth motion, etc...
ChrisKhan@reddit
Im playing AAA games on a 5050 man, just turn off your brain open up your game of choice and enjoy. Nothing comes out of second guessing purchases.
jhenryscott@reddit
Why are you asking us? Do you like the performance you are getting? Then it’s a good card. Don’t commiserate over a consumer product it’s really not that deep
Shot3ways@reddit
Turn that frown (6) upside down.
Typical-Chipmunk-327@reddit
It's a fine GPU. Definitely an upgrade over the RX 6600 or 7600.
Don't sweat it. As long as you're happy with the card and it does what you want, that's all that really matters.
CliveTidus@reddit
Can u return it?
Pale-Conference-5838@reddit
7600xt 16 gb my personal opinion I would get the 5060 or any 8gb card even though it’s ddr7
