Do tire pressure monitoring valve caps work?

A friend of mine recently got those tire pressure monitoring valve caps that show pressure with colors and all that. He seems excited about them but I am kinda skeptical tbh. He is the type that likes gadgets more than checking if they really work, and I am the opposite. I just want to know if something does what it says. I get the idea behind them, but I keep thinking how accurate they really are and if they can be trusted long term. Like are they consistent or just close enough. I tried looking for proper tests or breakdowns but could not find much. Just mixed opinions everywhere. I noticed similar valve cap systems mentioned in supplier specs and also a few online, and they all claim accuracy, but that does not mean much. Anyone here tested these properly and can say if they are reliable or not?

I used them on race cars all the time for testing. Sometimes TPMS is illegal to have actually installed in the car so by using these I can quickly install them for testing (where the rules don't apply) and remove them for official sessions and definitely not have one of the crew forget.
Obviously, as with anything, there's shitty ones and good ones. The good ones work really well.

Yes. But they're a bitch to read going down the road.

I have a Haltech set up for my car and they work fine. The refresh is slower than id like though.

I've seen them around for a long time but never considered using them.
How do they get a reading. They will have to push down on the shrader valve. That makes for the possibility of a leak. Don't add a reason for a leak.

No they’re garbage.
