Was bunny’s allowance actually “ample,” or is the big Lebowski just full of it?

The Big Lebowski says, “I hope that my wife will someday learn to live on her allowance, which is ample,” but… is it actually?

Given that Bunny “owes money all over town,” it doesn’t exactly sound like someone comfortably living within a generous allowance. Either she’s wildly irresponsible (very possible), or the old man is overstating things to maintain his whole image.

Also, what do we think “ample” even means here? Like are we talking a few grand a month in early 90s LA? More? Less?

And separate question… isn’t that kind of both their problem? He frames it like it’s strictly hers, but they’re married.

Curious how people read that line.
