Define “best”? Its rotating barrel system makes it very soft shooting, but you can get into 5.7 for cheaper with the PSA or Ruger. In terms of drip I think the FN is still king. I own an M&P 5.7 and it’s awesome, no regrets. It terms of features it’s probably the best.

Yes, my SW57 is my go-to for older/female/weak shooters.
My 72 year old mother had a good time, its way more reasonable than a 9. In the past the only thing she'd shoot multiple times was a 22.
This gives real lethal capability in afar easier to control package.

The little tabs make it easier to rack, although it's not an EZ-rack gun.
Add an optic, if you have aging eyes you'll want it anyway, for the extra benefit of having something easy and pretty much as foolproof as it gets, to grip when racking (it's not ideal to rack through the optic but... it'll do), and this is as easy as any gun is going to get.

It shouldn't, I've only handled one and I didn't feel it was hard to rack at all.
The rotating barrel locking mechanism should actually mean that use a slightly lighter recoil spring than they would otherwise (on top of being a 5.7), so I really think this should be one of the better guns from that point of view.

It is easy to rack/manipulate and shoot. In my experience it was pretty difficult to load the magazine. Even with the included speed loader.

The S&W 5.7 is probably my easiest to rack gun. Aside from the S&W EZ rack guns I don't know what low recoil centerfire handgun comes close.

There's actual real validity for 5.7 because it is significantly lower in recoil than 9mm is. Let's weaker people, women and elderly who are concerned about recoil, have a weapon that does pretty equivalent damage.

That's exactly why I'm thinking of getting this for an older person. They aren't going to piss ammo away at a range, good defensive 9mm is just as more expensive anyways, and the recoil is supposedly as light as it's gonna get for a centerfire.

So the grip width from front to back is usually something that deters smaller folks from this caliber. You might compare the Rock 5.7 Compact to a Bodyguard 2.0 Ported and see which one they feel like would work better for their hands.

Yup, this gun in particular with the rotating barrel should have almost no recoil.
Fwiw you can get 5.7 range ammo for like 43cpr. Sure that's not 9mm prices, but it isn't that expensive either as far as centerfire goes. It's about the same price as 45 acp but we never hear about how expensive that stuff is.
