Hammer suggestion (no good condition antiques harmed)

Picked up this Cooper revolver as well as a really poor condition parts gun, so I wanted to make a target pistol with the parts gun being sacrificial (non-repairable condition), and some new manufactured parts (barrel and sights). My issue is because this a triple action copy of a colt 1851 the hammer blocks any sights in double action mode. So does anyone have any ideas on how to do this asides from chopping them off?

You got anything finished? Contest is on now.

No I just bought them haven’t gotten them yet

How much was the better one? These seem like the can go for a lot just poking around.
Anything else out there ready to go?

The better one was $640 which was lower than expected, the one person I was bidding against just suddenly stopped at $635 but I was auto bidding up to 700. The worse condition one was a steal but I think they just had no choice but to sell it for anything. Nothing currently as I’m up to neck in vet bills at the moment.

Vet bills? Somebody in the family an equestrian?

I wish, cat optometry bill
GunnitRust@reddit
TIL cat optometry is a thing.

Yes and they’re very expensive

It’s a Colt 1849 copy in double action. I’ve never seen the DA lockwork in one of these.
Your custom gun just needs to be actually custom. Your New barrel can simply have actual sights on it. Target sights even.
Are you going to do a cartridge conversion?
So two projects here? One restoration and one custom abomination?

The other reason for not doing a cartridge conversion is the cylinder isn’t actually based off of the Colt and instead takes more inspiration from the Remington revolvers.

Total amalgamation. That’s hilarious.
inserttext1@reddit (OP)
No cartridge conversion as I prefer backpowder, the new barrel will have sights they’re just as is unusable without the hammer being back. Just one project as the second gun is too far gone to restore, so it’s just a parts gun.

Get a blowtorch and bend the hammer flare back

I actually saw a really good article on doing this with other revovlers

Make it an accursed side-hammer-center-pivot with the spur off to your dominant side
