I'm a long time tmux user, but I switched to zellij a few months ago and highly recommend it. https://zellij.dev/

I tried it and thought it was terrible and hated it

Might be learning curve? How long did you give it to try and build some muscle memory on it? I am playing around with it and using my cheatsheet and trying to get familiar with it. Some things are cool, but if you are a tmux ninja, tmux is generally as efficient and fast if you are proficient in it. It is of course a bit confusing at first if you do not know your way around it and its conventions. I'm still confused but if I stick with it I'm sure it becomes easier like any tool. Just curious what did you hate about it? I'm not involved in the project I am always curious and trying out new tools that seem interesting.

Looks interesting. I will check it out this week. Is it well maintained?

I have been playing around with it for the last half hour! It is pretty cool so far. Still trying to find my way around with the panes, floating panes and some of the other features. It's not as ubiquitous as neovim yet but it is really cool in what it can do. I might have to make up a cheat sheet for this now so I can learn it. Project for this week maybe. Stay tuned
