Ammo shortage again?

Hey guys, I visited a couple gun stores/ retailers here in Nc this weekend and seems like ammo is totally wiped out again šā¦. Whatās it look like in your neck of the woods ?
Alsu0001@reddit
Plenty of ammo so far but it's about $2 more expensive for 9 mm and limited to 20 boxes per day.
PageGroundbreaking26@reddit
The cost of copper and zinc have risen, this is why most ammo manufactures are having a price increase
DashMcGee@reddit
Prices are up a few dollars per brick here, and the bulk ammo pallets on the floor are sparse. Iām going to the range tomorrow, so Iāll see if itās worse.
snaggie-patty@reddit
Was the range stocked ?
DashMcGee@reddit
I just came back, and they had a pallet of 9mm on the floor. It was Winchester target ammo. $14/box = 28 cents per round.
yourMommaKnow@reddit
I purchased a shit ton of ammo last weekend and there was a metric shit ton on the shelves. I don't think panic buying is happening...yet.
snaggie-patty@reddit
In Wisconsin, panic buying is happening severely. All major gun stores are out of stock.
yourMommaKnow@reddit
That's interesting to hear. Im in the south.
snaggie-patty@reddit
YES, we are in an ammo shortage for a few reasons, tariffs, manufacturers closing, shortage for casings and powders and now the war. 9mm, .22, 38 special And 5.56 are EXTREMELY hard to find in Wisconsin right now. Other states are having massive shortages as well.
AnyProduct6052@reddit
I live in Wisconsin and in the past few weeks Bass pro shop AND both Fleet Farms in my area run out of 9mm, 556, 22LR, and 38 special within 24 hours. One of the workers at Fleet Farm said every time they get 9mm in, someone will come and buy ALL of it.
No-Mechanic3931@reddit
Nj stores are limiting to one to two boxes of 9mm now. Can still find sales for 1000 rounds $260 delivered - I grabbed a few K.
teegray1124@reddit
Where?
No-Mechanic3931@reddit
True shot ammo
Significant-Side2718@reddit
Dealer here... I don't know what to call it, but all of my suppliers are out of everything. I mean EVERY caliber there is. I don't know if its just a hiccup or a real shortage. Just sold my last pallet of 9mm and I'm hands off for now.
SANO_HIMURA@reddit
Ohio. Went to my LGS for a case of 9 for upcoming matches. Current āsaleā price on blazer brass is $13.99 and they have reinstated the Covid era 20 box limit.
Itās annoying because I was there for a routine buy and annoyingly am going back pay day to buy more.
dragonslayer137@reddit
Buy what you can now. Previous factories are non existent. And the owners of companies providing American reloading components are not doing well. Most brands of ammo i bought just last year do not exist anymore. It is not going to get easier.
awoodz92@reddit
Just returned from my local Sportsmanās Warehouse and found stacks and stacks of 5.56 for $10.99 for a box of 20. 9mm was also plentiful. The only stock that seemed low was 22LR and 22WMR, especially anything in bulk.
Fell4eachOther@reddit
Stores are well stocked with sales constantly on ammo in my area.
NotBigfoot69@reddit
General Dynamics isnt making powder for small arms they are focusing on arty rounds. This is mostly a powder shortage
Specialist-Impact345@reddit

FlapperGasfire@reddit
This is manufactured, and y'all are making it happen
Grouchy_Hubert_da3rd@reddit
'China imposed strict export controls on key materialsāspecifically antimony, gallium, germanium, and graphiteācritical for manufacturing ammunition, weapons, and semiconductors, targeting the U.S. defense industry" + increasing tariffs on foreign goods (including ammunition) + a freaking war with Iran but yea this is all a ruse...
PapaPuff13@reddit
I prepare for things like having a shitty Governor. Iām surprised I can still get ammo in Fuddafornia
Heelsboy77@reddit
Iāve noticed that online prices are creeping up. I went to Tractor Supply for dog food this weekend and their ammo section was flush, but their prices have always been unreasonably high, imo, even before all the big gun channels on YouTube got the meme to start talking about ammo shortages.
HeughJanus@reddit
some shit happens across the globe
ammo distributors fear monger and artificially drive up prices
dumbasses buy into it
new pricing standard is set
repeat steps 1 - 4
it was only 10 years ago when you could buy an entire case for 30cpr
WTFisThatSMell@reddit
Case of?
NotBigfoot69@reddit
5.56
joelfarris@reddit
Oh, I can't shoot a case of that, mine only takes .223.
BBQSauce61@reddit
You sure..?
SquattingGopnik-223@reddit
Some older models have been made to only shoot the lower pressure 223 round. Most ar15s made now can shoot either
BBQSauce61@reddit
Which is why I asked. Most general users have no idea.
LilJonny2cookies@reddit
I would hope everyone with a rifle would know the proper caliber/rounds for guns they own. I get not everyone will but I think most folks with more than newb level knowledge would be on top of this.
Minute-Log-7098@reddit
Thatās a real problem for most. And theyāre not even aware. Could save them money.

I remember less than 10 years ago PSA ran a sale for 1,000 rounds of 5.56 and 10 P-mags for $300. I only saw it once but boy I regretted not having the cash for it.
OldGamerX79@reddit
I just can't find 7.72x39 in my neck of the woods. Everything else is available
bluebeast1562@reddit
Only issue I see at my LGS is 380, not a round to be found.
Mikebjackson@reddit
Iām sure it was going to happen organically, but itās been accelerated by guntubers wanting to be the first to report on it and āwarnā people to stock up. A self-fulfilling prophecy.
The general rule for ammo is: stock up when itās cheap so you can ride out the panic buyers.
RandoAtReddit@reddit
When Obama got elected you couldn't find .22LR for years through normal channels at normal (non-scalper) prices. I didn't worry about it because I had around 3000 rounds on the shelf and surely it cant last that long, right? Right?
I went through those 6 bricks faster than things came back to normal and I decided I'd do everything in my power to not get sidelined by a temporary supply interruption ever again.
Over the past 10 years or so my motto has been to buy it cheap because it's not going to be any cheaper or easier to get, ever. r/gundeals has been my best/worst friend.
Mikebjackson@reddit
Oh, I remember. Obama was my first drought. There was a time where you could find fancy CCI 22 for (I kid you not) 50 cents per round! Absolute insanity. Of course nobody bought it, but it was on shelves.
Having learned my lesson, I bought a metric ton of 5.56. And it actually lasted! ...the problem was I started shooting 9mm more and ran out of that š¤¦āāļø So I learned the lesson of not just stocking what you currently shoot, but what you'll probably shoot in the future.
And during the drought, don't just shoot one caliber. Try and spread it out. I've got a couple thousand rounds of .40 left over from the whole ".40 is the second coming of christ" phase in 2010. Now's the time to use it up instead of my precious cache of 9mm ;)
Anyway, yes. When it's cheap, stack it deep!
cowboy123456@reddit
My academy in north Georgia had plenty of the basics. Was suprised how few boxes of 380 they had. Was also suprised at 7.62x39 to be a dollar a shot!
Old_MI_Runner@reddit
Some claim 380 ACP production was cut for 9mm production. Supply went down for 380 ACP and prices on it went up more than for 9mm.
cowboy123456@reddit
Yep. I really enjoy shooting 380. My wife does too, but I hate how silly expensive it's gotten.
Old_MI_Runner@reddit
Sorry both don't have a good stock of 380 ACP ammo. I bought much of mine at about 26 CPR and none of it over 29 CPR. I bought most of it in 2023 and 2024. I had no firearms until late 2021 when 9mm Norma that went on sale for 30 CPR sold out quickly. So once the prices dropped I started buying both 380 ACP and 9mm whenever there was a BIN sale as posted on Gundeals. Much of my 380 ACP is from Freedom Munitions. I only bought when they offered free shipping. Their price has gone up since I last bought just as everyone else has raised prices since 2025.

hwrdhdsn@reddit
I expect the shooting wars are draining supplies for all munitions, even home ammo.
Leroy_Washington@reddit
Sure the military is in massive active ground fighting and use 69 different calibers. /s
The Lake City plant runs 24/7 pumping out ammo, our govt. has warehouse after warehouse of millions upon millions of rounds stockpiled.
This sounds more like a powder shortage again or something like that.
Parktio@reddit
combined with ammo companies and others fueling panic buying
mattumbo@reddit
Well if theyāre pumping out 5.56, 7.62 NATO, and 50BMG for military contracts then yeah theyāll use up all the powder, may also have retooled lines and dropped 50/69 calibers they were making to prioritize NATO standard calibers. War in Ukraine has been soaking up production and now Iran could go boots on the ground so thereās a very high demand for ammo at the moment.
malitove@reddit
I've seen prices coming down in my area. Plenty of ammo.
stjhnstv@reddit
Havenāt noticed much change around me. Maybe people are worried about filling their gas tanks? Idk
Sensitive_Box_@reddit
Unphased. Should have had 10k+ stocked already.Ā
Coeruleus_@reddit
Buy online dude
JuanT1967@reddit
I was at a 6 Shooters Gun Show today and there were 4-5 tables with people selling just ammo and normal prices in a variety of calibers
I usually donāt buy from local gun shops. I bulk buy online and have a dealer friend up the road that will price match most online prices ( and I always add extra money since he is a home based FFI. He price matched 20 boxes (2 cases) of 25rnd boxes of militaryā winchester 12ga buck from AIM Surplus and I added $1 to the per box total)
Thereās no shortage. But like someone mentioned, we are dropping bombs and talking about invading another country so people panic buy.
Ask them if they can special order for you and how much it would cost and how long for delivery.
buckthesystem13@reddit
All good in Texas
Ruthless4u@reddit
I better hurry up and buy all the 45-90 before the jarheads mistake them for crayons again.
Individual_Fox_2950@reddit
Florida, lots of empty shelves
jim2527@reddit
FOMO nothing more nothing less. All of my sources had 9, 45 and 22 as of this morning. And Iām not buying any as I have enough.
P1umbersCrack@reddit
All the cheaper 124g have been OOS locally in Southern California. I order online but seeing around 24-25cpr but then shipping kills it. If we buy locally we get regular sales tax plus 11% sin tax on that.
jaunesolo81829@reddit
Prices have gone up. 9mm was like 10.34 a box and now itās 13.84
Weep4Thee@reddit
I was just at a gun show. Plenty to go around.
AdUpstairs7106@reddit
For 9mm, I usually prefer 124 grain to 115 grain, but the 2 stores I go to are out of 124 grain. 147 grain 9mm is in stock, and the walls are filled with 115 grain. No 124 grain 9mm ammo, but other than I am good.
wettones@reddit
In Colorado, I went to sportsmanās warehouse and almost all the pistol ammo was gone. Everything else seemed pretty well stocked though!
Outrageous_Lion8966@reddit
Probably depends on where you go. I been looking online and normal spots I look at have been out. Then I walk into my local scheels or sportsmanās warehouse and thereās metric fuck tons of ammo. So it just depends Iād say.
Donāt understand the panic buying. For guns I get it with the certain laws in certain states coming up. Itās why I just spent a bunch of money to build one last gun, but the ammo I donāt get.
SpiritualClub4417@reddit
Picked up 8lbs of powder a few weeks ago, will probably go pick up another 8lbs of H4350 today. Iām still able to find primers, bullets, and brass. Buying it while I can for sure.
ohaimike@reddit
Same. Im good on primers, but I have a few jugs I need to buy
I just can't drop multiple $400 purchases at once so I have to space it out and hopefully won't run into stock issues
chris77662@reddit
standing in my lgs reading this and i am surrounded by walls of ammo and typical prices, they literally dont have room for any more
throwaway11675@reddit
The world is ending! Civil war now! Billion must die! /s
People are freaking out over nothing again
cakesalads@reddit
Even though it's not the apocalypse, stores will price according to their demands. If some stores believe people will pay higher prices, or other stores see their stockpiles running out quicker than can be readily replaced, then the validity of the source of the fear is irrelevant
midlife_dadpulse73@reddit
This panic buying bullshit again?
1st timers freaking out, panic buying guns and ammo like there is no tomorrow. š¤¦āāļø
