Very final episode

saki828@reddit
I've only watched once. I plan to watch it again when I'm in a self destructive mood. I still watch TG and TGT religiously though. Just not that episode.
Prestigious_Diver485@reddit
Same, my wife looked at me like I was a lunatic when I choked up at the final episode. I said these guys have been a fixture in my life for 20 years.
babylioncroissant@reddit
My partner kept talking about other stuff all the way through and just didn’t get why I wanted to stop and concentrate.
Sigh, words can’t describe the feeling
Significant_Card6486@reddit
It was time for it to end. It peaked around 2007, and it went down hill form around when they realised they were watched for entertainment and basically started playing parodies of themselves. It was really shit towards the end.
And Stanley top gear was finding it's feet eventually when that all came crashing down.
Significant_Piece616@reddit
Stanley top gear??
babylioncroissant@reddit
Doesn’t change how it was a nice watch to end it
Significant_Card6486@reddit
I'll have to give it a re watch, I don't remember the episode tbh. I remember them getting emotional a bit, if thats what your referring to. But I didint find it sad or moving in anyway. They had a good run and made some good money out of it, while enjoying themselves. I don't see why a 3rd party would get emotional over that.
babylioncroissant@reddit
Less impact for you than for me I guess
Significant_Card6486@reddit
I watched it through the 80s and 90s, and remember cutting a fishing day early to watch ep 1 of the re-launch too. I always thought it peak around 07 so I was over it towards the end of TG, and the GT I never really rated that much. As I said earlier, it turned into a parody once they became self aware that people forund then funny. They played into it far too much, where it seemed like a parody of an already eccentric show
I miss 5th gear more than top gear tbh. Was a far better car enthusiast show. Where too gear was an entertainment show based around cars. It's just that its entertainment got long in the tooth.
SpruceMcGoose2@reddit
I watched the final episode when it released and dude I'm pissed off for you. It drives me insane as it is when people talk through a show I enjoy, but the final episode? I'd be fuming
FairyNuffMuffin0110@reddit
Spool of wire
Prestigious_Diver485@reddit
Yep, that crossed my mind.
Marvels_Frostbite@reddit
Somehow just completely forgot that The Grand Tour literally starts with TGT so I was really confused here thinking that there’s a show that’s literally called Top Gear Two that I’d missed somewhere 🤦♀️😂
vblade2003@reddit
I still have to stop all my rewatches right before End of the Road. Too many feelings. Laughing at the boys' antics got me through some tough times, and knowing there won't be much TV material from the trio anymore is depressing. They've earned the retirement for sure... but I'm still not ready lol
Marco0798@reddit
TG is like TNG now.. run through it every other year or so..
GarethOfQuirm@reddit
Renault Espace, the final frontier...
Marco0798@reddit
Just watched that the other day lol
Anonymousbutsexy@reddit
I’ve never watched the end, and I refuse to. I’ll be staying in my bubble of ignorance 😋
IAmStrayed@reddit
Seen it once. I’ll show my son, when it’s time :)
Zlotty9791@reddit
I don't cry (I never cry at anything really) but it does hit you in feels definitely, I love them working together 💖
Cautious_Lawfulness3@reddit
No, I thought it was a bit too scripted and pretty crap tbh
Five_N_Drive@reddit
Crying? Wow
Listenuponceatime@reddit
Yeah me too 😢
SerTidy@reddit
My friend warned me that the final episode hits hard. He was right. The flash backs and flash forwards as they get out of the cars sets it up for me, by the time they shake hands I’m cutting onions.
ferretpowder@reddit
I can never find the last bit on YouTube, with the music playing. Anyone have a link?
Junny89@reddit
Yup sad its gone tbh like a void now with something missing these three always cheered me up
SilentOrganization97@reddit
No I felt like vomiting
Alfonfin@reddit
Funeral for a Ford is very sad as well
globalmamu@reddit
Same with the Jim Clarke documentary, especially when talking to his former team mechanic
IronSkywalker@reddit
It's a shame he's not here because...it'd be nice to have him.
Gets me every time
ldtravs1@reddit
It is very sad, but what did strike me is how afterwards, JC could be so physically moved when they knew the “don’t stop” shout out was a plant and they knew they weren’t stopping. He does wear his heart on his sleeve, and I get that it was a change but it still felt oddly disingenuous to be that glassy-eyed about it.
mrspuffispeng@reddit
Nah it didnt feel that way at all to me. That was truly the end of the show as all of us knew it, Jeremy included. He knew that after this final episode it would be a few years of specials as a final swan song and that was it but the show itself was ending with that episode. The specials are so far removed from the original format that it would be incorrect to say the show itself that had been running for 20 years (top gear, the grand tour) didn't end with that episode
Alfonfin@reddit
I felt it was the end of the show as well, specials are good, but the tent itself with all its segments was the show itself (except for the american)
HeartOfSolipsism@reddit
It's why I really love that shot of James deleting their numbers. They gave us one final laugh even within a sad scene.
NewRefrigerator7461@reddit
It’s the brother in arms track that gets me. There is a west wing episode that uses it effectively too
In willman’s bio he mentioned how they finally chose it. It gives me chills thinking about it.
gbilton@reddit
Good to know I'm not the only one who remembers that
NewRefrigerator7461@reddit
The west wing one? I’ve sometimes wondered if the guy who suggested it to willman wasn’t thinking of that episode too. I know they’re Aaron sorkin fans
gbilton@reddit
Yes when the used that song on TGT finale my mind went the first. Most TWW fans remember the scene after it when PB tells Governor Richie "crime boy I don't know .....that's when I decided to kick your ass" but that was a great use of the song in both ca
NewRefrigerator7461@reddit
That’s right - thats why I associate it with death, watching the secret service agent get shot in the convenience store outside the opera. The death of the trio was even more devastating
FlyComfortable3169@reddit
Totally get that. The way they used that track really amplifies the emotional weight. It’s like it’s woven into the fabric of those moments, making them hit harder.
_Apprehensive_Fish_@reddit
Oddly enough, I didn't cry when TGT ended. But damn I was sad with the last episode of top gear.
My gf says that I had my grieving process with top gear, that why the last ep of TGT didn't affect me so much lol
But to be honest, I never really liked it the same way I liked TG. I thought it was too immature sometimes. I liked the top gear humor better.
winzley12@reddit
I won't watch it. That way the gang live on forever
ratticusdominicus@reddit
Is this not on Prime any longer?
chongmc@reddit (OP)
It still is
creativeusername_vt@reddit
I have not watched it. I'm my world, if I didn't watch it, it hasn't ended. I just watch the top gear channel on Roku and remember a better time in life.
If y'all are unaware, Roku has a 24/7 top gear channel. You're welcome.
thewaifandstray@reddit
I haven't watched it and don't think I ever will. My Dad got me into Top Gear, cars and racing in general; he was one of the first COVID victims. Many a fine memory poking him to tell me who the Stig was (until he took me to a race day where he was out of character and everyone knew his alter ego). I know they're no saints, and Clarkson is an arse let's face it, but that trio had something special.
Outrageous-Arm1945@reddit
Yeah, it was very well done. Like others have said, those three idiots have entertained me for a very long time!!
Ok_Pen7290@reddit
Crying, what are you, Bloke or a woman
awetsasquatch@reddit
The brothers in arms sequence always gets me, then I recover and lose it again when Clarkson unplugs his microphone. Just so expertly well done.
Virtual-Purchase1919@reddit
That song hits so hard for that scene. Both incredibly beautiful and powerful.
Immediate-Growth-207@reddit
It hits hard, the show i watched throughout half my life and would wait desperately for each new one. Gets me as much as last episode of BA goes fourth
Psalm23_UK@reddit
Saw BA in media studies and more than half our class cried. I'm my 50's now and just the thought almost does it. Top gear and grand tour ending is still a close second.
DarkEther66@reddit
Top Gear and Grand Tour with Clarkson. Hammond and May was and will always be the pinnacle of car shows.
Willing_Computer8033@reddit
Up until James deletes the others two's numbers haha
Lord-Liberty@reddit
I've not had as big of an existential crisis since they did those flashback scenes when they arrive on that island.
Made me go way back to when I first watched the Botswana special as a very little child with my dad and then back to the present as I watched it as an adult, still with my dad next to me.
mrspuffispeng@reddit
I watched it the day it came out with all my best friends on call, we're all guys in our mid to late 20s so top gear and the grand tour has been a part of our lives for as long as we can remember (or were allowed to watch it). Most of us myself included needed to excuse ourselves for a good 10 minutes to have a proper cry. I haven't rewatched it since and i dont think i will for a long time. It was very special and the way things had been going with the quality of some of the specials post-seamen i was doubtful it was going to be a finale as good as the three deserved. But man, it was like the first time since the end of top gear that it felt exactly like the old specials. (this isnt to say i dont like the grand tour specials, i love all of them, some of them more than certain top gear specials) So it was that amazing feeling of nostalgia and smiling the whole time and then as the remaining time on the seek bar got smaller and smaller this feeling of dread just started coming in over all of us and we remembered this was it. The end period. Between that special and funeral for a ford i cant think of a better pair of episodes to send off the lads.
slogoisthebestyt@reddit
Yup
Nice-Pomegranate2915@reddit
No because by the time they reached the final episode of the series they were just burnt and on resuscitation . The best decision would of just end on the first episode of season 5 . The rest of season 5 just felt like an anticlimax .
Foreign-Score-346@reddit
Yes, I shed a tear, for them, for my own mortality, for the passage af time, and my path through life with those three as constant companions.
julianAppleby5997@reddit
Yep, you're not alone ....
AhhYahBassa@reddit
I stopped watching with about 15 minutes to go. Im not ready for that shit yet
psychicspanner@reddit
I rewatched the original Botswana Top Gear episode and there are lots of questions about how certain things “just happened “ in that Grand Tour final episode, yes it was all for telly and nostalgia and the whole production team did a stunning job but…
GarethOfQuirm@reddit
Don't be fooled. It's scripted.... The Trio ad-lib reactions to things, and if some of the drama unfolds a bit unexpectedly they'll leave it in, but the overall narrative is meticulously planned.
psychicspanner@reddit
For sure, and this is where Wilman, Porter et al don’t get the credit they deserve. Take the fact the two cars just ended up back in the Makedekadi basin from the border of Namibia in the West, whilst all the doors and bonnets etc were left in the Eastern side…. That’s some coincidence and whilst I don’t believe the presenters knew the cars were where they were in that final episode, the production team certainly did.
Substantial_Set5243@reddit
I start crying at any episode when I see them 3. When it ended it’s like the official end of my childhood. I was 29 at the time haha.
ApprehensivePlan483@reddit
After watching it, I just can’t watch the full episode. Call me a melodramatic fool, but it really was the end of an era. Even though it had to end, thank you Clarkson, Hammond, May and the whole crew for everything.
Due_Cartographer9196@reddit
i was surprised how much it got to me when i watched it, we all grew old along with them
ZangetsuAK17@reddit
Funeral for a Ford seeing Jezza cry broke me a lot, but that final episode I took a year to mentally prepare myself to watch it and when I did, I bawled. I haven’t been able to even watch clips of it since. These guys were my entire childhood into adult life.
some-scottish-person@reddit
The only thing they got wrong was they used the wrong George Harrison song, they should have use All Things Must Pass
AlfredLuan@reddit
No I didn't like the final episode, especially with that overly-staged scene of finding the old merc. It was repetitive and boring to the point I was sort-of glad they stopped.
midgetman166@reddit
The last grand tour special I really enjoyed was Mongolia for that very reason. Mongolia felt real (mainly because the misery on the chaps faces was very evident)
fifadex@reddit
Never seen it. Ran out of time to keep up after the first couple of seasons after watching the three of them for what seemed like decades.
I'll watch it tomorrow and hold you accountable for the consequences.
midgetman166@reddit
Not TGT but TG. I always get emotional in the British made parade on The Mall in London.
Inzomniack@reddit
The opening episode of the show too, in the American muscle cars, driving in the desert, three mates, having the time of their lives
That opening intro with “I can see clearly now” playing in the background, stirs me.
Fabulous-Car-6850@reddit
Yeah that was a phenomenal shot. Also the opening shot w clarkson leaving down the center road between the garages became very helpful when our uber driver took a turn and trapped us in the beginning of the LAX “U” drive during a panicked stampede of passengers when a person dressed as Zoro knocked over some stanchion poles and LAX cops pulled out their guns thinking there was a shooting. Usually you have to go all the way around the U drive now blocked by abandoned cars and people running around, but I told the driver to pull into the garage and exited through that road. The driver managed to complain about getting charged for parking the entire time…
MJLDat@reddit
I have no idea what you just said.
Helpful-Ad3466@reddit
I chucked too much at that 🤣
Tmccreight@reddit
I'm not gonna lie, I cried for the entire last sequence.
Ok-Personality-6630@reddit
I grew up with the shows, it was an end of an era.
GreggsAficionado@reddit
The very last or the final studio one? The final studio one is tough
shiftlocked@reddit
Yep same here. Sounds dramatic but grand tour helped me laugh in many a sad time
NoiseDifficult9165@reddit
That damn handshake. The moment they shake hands I'm finished
honey_badger010@reddit
Looks like it's just you!
Due_Ad_4633@reddit
No
Alarming-History-322@reddit
Genuinely I haven’t been able to watch it yet, it will kill me
Teestow21@reddit
Not TGT, but I always got chills during clarksons Senna tribute.
Drumchapel@reddit
Is that from the Tom Cruise episode thats been edited out of the iPlayer version?
gbilton@reddit
Blame F1 and their ludicrous tight control over video rights
Teestow21@reddit
Not sure, I just remember the tribute, sorry
FriskyDingoOMG@reddit
I just never finish it. I’ve watched it numerous times but have only watched the ending once.
UnhappyCryptographer@reddit
I only watched it once... It was so good but also so sad and went full circle. My BF and I watch every other episode but this one? Only once...
Pyreknight@reddit
I can usually get through most of the episode without crying. Well until James says his bit. Then I have to pause it for a few minutes.
mcdreamymd@reddit
I've worked on TV news broadcasts for years with biting, static shots so anything remotely cinematic always impresses me - the drone shots, super-slow mo, the Go Pros getting great footage.
But when Clarkson unplugs his microphone and goes off mic - holy hell does that hit me every time. Whenever an interview or live shot in the news ends, you'll hear that same sound - the small fumbling for the transmitter pack and then the pop of the small XLR cable being removed.
Just in the news, you'll hear it again on the next broadcast.
BlazerSlayer7@reddit
It's a shame to see it end, but it has to happen. I recently watched through all TGT and it struck me how fast it ended, in some ways. Once you watch Lochdown, there's only a few to go. In my memory, it was longer.
Buddhist saying- Everything that has a beginning, has an ending. Make your peace with that and all will be well.
c0okiesex@reddit
Oh yes, everytine I see a clip from it, the tears just appear
