These animals are incredible - but the negative impacts of chronic boating activity following them around can be severe. Watch from 100 meters away. Don’t cut off the direction of travel. Don’t sandwich the whale between boats. Don’t be selfish and you can enjoy the presence of the whales while minimizing the negative impact that your actions have.

What do you mean by stationary fishing? You are underway in the video. The other two boats are also underway.
Total fine if the whales approach you and come right next to the boat. If the whales surface, and you then steer your boat toward them, or turn your engines on and start motoring in their direction of travel, then you’re following them.
I’m suggesting you leave your engine off or on idle when stationary fishing and whales surface. Then they will continue to do their thing and you can do yours. But you’re clearly following these whales in this video.
I’m not on a high horse but trying to educate you that in your attempts to enjoy the whales you disturbed them. I’d hope your reaction to be an admittance of the mistake, a general expression of remorse for doing something that caused harm to another, and some acknowledgement that you’ll try better.
The defensive reaction is tiring. Are you a fisherman? Do you spend a lot of time boating? Respect the sea and the animals. Less people can see your behavior out there so it’s up to you to police yourself - and when you post videos of yourself clearly doing things that are against the law, I am going to climb on my high horse and call you out.
Take a breath, let the anger at me calling you out pass, and consider what you could have done differently out there. It’s not a big deal - but it’s important that we educate.

You’re too close! It’s also never a good idea to sandwich the whales between multiple boats - there’s at least three boats surrounding these whales. Check out best practice guidelines and laws for watching marine mammals in Canada!
