You're not going to get a "thin" 2011 but you can request stealth arms to make specific changes to your grip when you order. Otherwise I think Talon grips may have a thinner option. If circumference is your criteria you may like the wilson edc x9 or the Kimber kds9c.

The Plat is worth it because you can customize it exactly to your liking. If budget isn't an issue, I would go that route. Otherwise the Kimber is a solid setup for the money. Personally I prefer Bul Armory, everyone says they are unobtainium, I was able to get two of them without waiting. Lucky me.

As for the Platypus, aren’t the grip ergos a bit different from a standard 2011 due to the Glock mag compatibility? Handled a Sig P211 and wasn’t a big fan of the grip so I’d imagine a Fusion or Platypus might be in the same boat

With Ron Cohen, the quality of ALL of their firearms has dropped. The coatings on their firearms suck now(Ive never seen a 365 thats been carried for 2 or more years that isnt rusty), the Cross rifle had a fucked up lockwork that would hang fire and/or fire while the bolt was being manipulated, their pistol optics are trash, the XM177 eats itself alive due to chamber pressure, the Spear had those fucked up hand rails and barrel nnus, and Im sure theres more but I just woke up.

It seems all their newer stuff has issues. The 220/226 are still good guns, IMO. But the P320, MCX (even my Virtus had a bendy barrel), and Cross all seem to have problems. Kimber is just now starting to recover from the fuck job Cohen did to them with a few good pistols in a row now (1911 DS, KDS9, and 2K11).

Yeah I am about to get my first 2011. Was pretty much set on a 2K11 after reading reviews. I held one and liked it, but then I got to handle a Sig P211 and despite my hate for Sig I liked it quite a bit more. Now I am waiting to see if any of those go below $2,000 - if they do then I plan on snatching one up.

Don’t sleep on a lightly used staccato, it’s hard to beat them for a first 2011. Or if you can find a lightly used HD (if you’re LEO/Military eligible for their discount you can’t get them under $2000). I’m a big staccato fan and I adore the HD line, I prefer them to the traditional 2011s.
As for the 2K11/P211, I personally like the P211 better. I like the 2K11 a lot as well, but the P211 having the dedicated comp, it’s close to the XC in performance at half the price.

Appreciate the insights. I may try and look at a lightly used Staccato. My only issue is I don't like buying used guns really, and I worry that people buying Staccatos are actually people running them pretty good. They're not common-use like Glocks or M&Ps where I'd think an average Joe buys them and just sells it after realizing they never use it.

If you can find a 2019 steel frame P with the full dust cover that’s the most desirable, or a heritage model.
If you want a full size, the P is the most popular/flagship model. The c2 is a great all around/carry, the XC is their top end but it’s expensive. The C is also really nice, but it’s been discounted and has the proprietary mags.
If you just want the flattest shooting at the price point a p211 will be hard to beat, but it’s also not a traditional 2011 some would argue - but technically the only ones that are “real” 2011s are staccatos as they trademarked the name.

I’m convinced the 365 rusting has to be something in the region people carry. I started with the 365 and went to the XL, then macro and legion and never had rust, ever, and I worked on the side at an LGS and never once saw any rusting on a sig. But I did with Kimber, and Ron ran them into the ground. I stand by the 365 is still good to go though, it’s the number one selling gun in America and has been for several years, there are bound to be problems with some of them.
The 220/226’s are still good to go. The only issues I saw with the spear both LT and big boy was the bendy barrel which is dumb but an easy enough fix.
I used to be a pretty big sig guy but not like I was. I won’t argue that they’re not what they were under Cohen though, I think he needs to go. I’m a big HK fan and German Sig was up there with HK in quality, it’s a shame what they’ve allowed to pass through. Being an ecosystem for everything just hasn’t worked in their favor.

I think the rusting comes from cerakote. Its a poor finish for a gun. I spent 3 years behind a gun store counter, do not miss it at all.
I dislike that Sig utilized end users as beta testing for the 365, remember the firing pin issues? Other than the rust and trigger return spring breakage, I agree that the 365 is otherwise gtg. If I can give CZ a pass for slide stop breakage, slide cracking and trigger return spring breakage I csnt knock Sig for the same issues.

Yeah that’s fair enough. I don’t like CZ’s strikers even a little bit but they make a solid hammer.
Sig makes some of my favorite hammers, I put the 226 as probably the best overall pistol ever made, but the 320 is just awful. Even taking the issues they had out of it, only the x5 and AXG variants were decent, the base model/lower end 320s just aren’t what you’d equate to Sig.
I’ve always said when Sig gets something right, they usually change the game for the better, but there’s so much junk in between the really good stuff usually gets overlooked. And I do adore the MCX/MPX platform but their ARs are what they push and I’m not a fan of those. My wife wanted the rose M400 to match the Rose 365, and I’ll admit they did a good job there, but I think that was more due to Lena having a hand in the Rose line more than anything.

Have they really drastically improved the build quality and reliability? I’ve stayed far away from Kimber after hearing all the reports of horrible QC, parts quality, finishes, etc. For a long time the internet made Kimber sound like an absolute train wreck of a gun manufacturer so it’s still kind of hard to trust them. I’m not sure I’ve ever seen a gun company with a worse reputation.

Most of the reports on the newer models are very positive. They seem to be clawing their way back from the self-destructive policies of their previous CEO, who is now at Sig.

Yes, the moron responsible for tanking kimber has been the head dog in charge at Sig for the past p320 years.... So while sig has started a downward spiral, Kimber has been making a quiet comeback.

Long story short, back in the 1980s Kimber was the #1 shop for high end custom competition guns (just 1911s at the time). Company went bankrupt, got bought and sold, moved around, and went through a real low point for QC as a shadow of itself.
Supposedly the more recent releases like the 2k11 are really good, but I have no personal experience with them.
