Is my unimog technical shitty or not shitty?

Ditch the airsoft and to stay cheap go belt fed 5.56 gatling gun. There's some great plans on https://nopel-0.com/m1337/
jj999125@reddit (OP)
Looks expensive, I'd rather spend that money on more unimogs or night vision.
Either way the turret uses a picatinny adapter so you can throw a belt red frt ar15 up there
jonnychimpoo@reddit
Most of it is 3d printed they're saying 1200-1400 , but more unimogs is pretty dope too. Thermal is pretty sweet definitely a game changer on the ranch. I use it more often than my nogs but they're both not cheap my any means
Baobabman-7603@reddit
it looks cool , european SoF are using the newer models as Special operation vehicle with .50 caliber machine gun on them and missile launcher
Konpeitoh@reddit
Luxury technical.
jj999125@reddit (OP)
The unimog 404 is far from luxury. Just because it has the star on the grill dosent mean we're riding comfy, they're built to work and work hard
Konpeitoh@reddit
Okay, but counterpoint: the standard shitty technical that we've come to know and adore is a 1980's fleet Hilux.
This thing has capabilities they could only dream of.

Usdm trucks like to dick wave and argue who's the best but scatter the second Toyota enters the picture. But the question is, what's better than a Toyota? Das unimog
Konpeitoh@reddit
USDM trucks are built for mall cruising and harassing the more affordable cars on the road.
Toyota is the product of what happens when you get a nation with autistic level of perfection to build a truck to do anything.
Unimog is the product of what happens when you get a certified autistic nation to build a truck that can do everything. Every single thing. The ultimate wheeled platform to technicalize.
pontetorto@reddit
Not enough gun.
blackhawk905@reddit
Not any gun really, putting a real gun there with an FRT would be pretty cool. Even a semi-auto only version of a gun would be pretty cool. Dude said he wanted 240s so he could get rid of the air compressor gun and get a semi 240 since I'm pretty sure they have those.
shoobe01@reddit
This. Perfectly reasonable sized gun for that truck so not shitty and barely a technical. MUCH more gun (a howitzer), replace gun with inappropriate size/amount of rockets, or many many guns.
:)
jj999125@reddit (OP)
Not a howitzer but I've considered making a mortar system for the bed so it can work like a m106 or m125. There's a guy who made a pretty great airsoft mortar system but the issue is always munitions. It's hard to find a projectile safe enough to drop on people's heads, and it either needs to strike players with bbs or make a loud BANG. and doing so it must be cheap enough I can rapid fire it.
Currently we've just got a ~~40mm~~ 36mm underbarrel launcher for anti vehicle use that fires chalk rounds.
shoobe01@reddit
If you don't need effects on target, we long used Nerf rockets for airsoft mortars. The ones that look like a miniature versions of the football with a long tail and fins. They'd even just fit into a 40 mm, so are the first single big projectiles that we (anyone in airsoft?) fired, using empty but gassed BB showers to shove them.
I'm not sure they make these rockets anymore but there are plenty of other Nerf projectiles that are designed to be fired at people so I tend to believe are as safe. Shouldn't even be very hard to test but especially when you are talking about indirect fire, only the firing crew is right next to it, when it's coming down at the target it's at the low terminal velocity for a very lightweight draggy item.
(Funny stuff to look out for as you start this: the total lack of mass for safety means that it's pushed around by wind really easily. When you're talking indirect fire, that means you're shooting it way up in the air and very often there are different winds up there. I've lunch stuff in relatively still air and watched it hit wind 30 ft up and turn, come straight back at us 😮)
jj999125@reddit (OP)
Yep nerf rockets are usually the first option. But even the whistlers are hard to tell where they land near you. You Basically need a ref watching and calling people out which is never fun for anyone.
These pics came from the airsoft field I took it to yesterday and the other team had a nerf rocket launcher and repeatedly me and the ref were like "where the hell did it land?..." like one rocket hit my truck but we didn't know because I stuck in my side window holder in the bed.
And if you've got a loud lmg, crem mates firing, people yelling, comms in your ear and ear pro in, hearing the soft thud of a foam rocket becomes really hard. Even harder if it lands on grass. So Pyro is usually the best option because the BANG from Pyro is hard to miss
These days we have taginn products but they're expensive (14-18$ per pyro round). I've made suitable 3d printed chalk round that are like 30cents a piece but affordable Pyro remains elusive
shoobe01@reddit
Yeah, done lots of the taginn shells but many folks don't like that the explosion exists, or ban for fire safety etc, so it's a whole other discussion and you need to keep solid foams on hand as well.
jj999125@reddit (OP)
The plans to do dual 240s but there's a guy in the gooseworks discord talking about making a bushmaster chain gun so that might be the long term goal
RogerianBrowsing@reddit
There’s discord chats for m240s and chain guns?
How does one get in one of these group chats and remain a free man? Asking for a friend.
jj999125@reddit (OP)
Airsoft 240s, and the chain guns just a member sharing

My vote is for getting 4 or 6 of those carnival games where you use a Thompson MG to shoot out the paper star and set them up like aaa gun.
Cleanbriefs@reddit
Unimog windshield is like those glass front at stores where you can see everything being offered. You have mounted a machine gun on top but everyone in that cab is exposed AF
Not a very good platform for doomsday road battles
And you are doing what? 40mph on top?
jj999125@reddit (OP)
I could pull the roof off fold the windshield and take off the doors. The beds got a roll bar. The tires could be foam filled run flats and no I've hit 100km/h before (down a steep hill before getting death wobble) but it'll cruise nicely at 55mph on marginally downward sloping smooth roads
Cleanbriefs@reddit
Yes it can be improved! This is why as is, you will be getting more bullets in you than you can at the enemy! These things can have armor plate installed and take on the extra weight, that’s the beauty of the unimog. Here is an idea! lol

jj999125@reddit (OP)
I'd probably do armor like what's used on MLRS vehicles windows. Some sort of shutter that can be raised and lowered depending on the visibility per danger needed.
That way I can live out my Leviathan book fantasies as I pilot my ~~cyklop stormwalker~~ unimog and tell my copilot to open and close the viewport depending
Cleanbriefs@reddit
FYI I fucking love unimogs and had one!

Holy based
Bepsterrr@reddit
Unimogs are never shitty!
Squidking1000@reddit
Unimog is incapable of being shitty.
love_glow@reddit
Certified shitty my guy. Complete with wojaks.

Imagine Wojacks are the last thing you see
tomato432@reddit
depends on the model

It's a 404.114 former Swiss army troop hauler truck.

Fuel consumption is atrocious but it will go anywhere

Google says 10mpg im gonna guess 6
Secret_Parking_2108@reddit
clearly not enough DAKKA
sawyerdk9@reddit
It’s beautiful.
H-vil@reddit
You use it for swine hunting or something?
Clo_miller@reddit
The fact that you own a Unimog is super cool! 👍🏻
cwalker2712@reddit
You need a BIGGER gun! But it's cool as hell.
jj999125@reddit (OP)
The goal was twin 240s but priorities shifted
Knaifu69@reddit
I think it's super cute :>
