It may not open the shutters for the live and neutral to even go in.

can you use it? yes. should you use it? no. can you order a new one and use this one in the meantime? yes. can you think the first answer is gospel and just use it for 5 years? yes... but. the earth is the thing that stops you from dying, and it's exposed. buy a new plug and use this one carefully until it arrives!

That pin is entirely plastic. The metal you can see isn't connected to anything, it's there to strengthen the pin.

well yeah, but it's also a specific length. designed so you can't push a finger behind. and it's broken probably because someone's pulled on the cable... so the earth is more than likely loose, but at the least will be very susceptible to future damage.

So it's safer now as now there's now less room to put a finger behind as the safety pin is shorter now and will need to be closer now to to connect the l and n pins ?

It’s fine, no issues

I would fail it if I was doing a PAT test.

If it's private property, you can keep that PAT test to yourself.

Yes. The bottom pins are your live and neutral which is where the power comes from. The earth wire is a safety feature to help avoid electrocution but plugs still work without it.

Absolutely safe. The power adapter is unearthed anyway, and never versions - as well as US and EU models - use 2-pin adapters only.

Perfectly fine that’s the earth pin, it will still be earthed because the metal what matters.

It's usable. My worry would be that the metal piece would come loose and remain behind when it's unplugged, but if it seems stable I would use it until I got a replacement.

It is fine.

In theory it's safe if the earth is still connected but it isn't working the risk. It'll take a few minutes to change the plug and it's always safer to not fuck with electricity.

There never was any earth. That pin was entirely plastic. About the only issue I can think of is the plug wont be held in the socket as well.

Entirely plastic Visible metal I don't understand.

That metal bit is keeping the plastic earth pin straight. There's no earth connection in that. The bit that broke off was the plastic that was moulded around it.

Ahhh right I get you. Yeah that makes sense, thanks.

Should be perfectly safe, there's no reason it'll be connected to anything internally. If it is all that'll happen anyway is it'll trip the power assuming your fuse board isn't 30 years old.
