Subsonic 5.7 is indeed a borderline useless round when 147 grain 9mm exists. It's entirely only useful if you want your 5.7 pistol to sound super quiet so you can larp as Sam fisher.
You lose significant effectiveness with subsonic 5.7 and it's borderline a 22lr in lethality

Because shooting subsonic 5.7 out of a suppressed SBR P90 is a lot of fun, even more so out of my five seven pistol. Its also plug and play, I can just toss a mag of subs in my P90 and it runs even with a flow can. The only practical use I can see, which is very morbid and also kind of a reach, is to put down injured animals. Maybe if you want to larp as an assassin

This stuff ran fine in mine in the box or two of it that I ran but honestly didn't sound any quieter to my ear than the 40gr supers. I didn't chron it but it's probably still supersonic in a 10.4" barrel. I haven't tried it in a pistol since I don't have one.

I did the math and subsonic 5.7 has about 35% more energy than subsonic .22lr Its not crazy but its def not just subsonic .22lr. You also cant shoot .22lr out of a P90

The smiles per round are what really matters, and I get a lot of SPR out of a suppressed SBR P90 shooting subs. You can also still use supers in your gun if you want super sonic performance. Idk maybe someone has a practical usage for it, those single shot 5.7 pistols would make for a good backpack/survivalist rifle to hunt small game where you dont need 5.7 supersonic speeds to kill.
Really this is just fun to shoot, and sometimes its okay to buy stuff thats fun to shoot. Realistically 5.7 as a caliber is just a fun caliber that doesn't make much sense for any serious use since its kinda anemic

I think 5.7 has legitimate self defense purposes. The recoil is so low that women and elderly people can manage it pretty easily, much easier than 9mm anyway. You get the advantage of having centerfire reliability over something like a 22lr as well
