"The idea that Japanese cars are the best in the world is long gone... A visit to China reveals a cruel truth that Japanese people don't want to admit." (In Japanese)

This sub is so astroturfed with Chinese propaganda.

your brain is just so rotten from western propaganda that you automatically think any compliment to chinese vehicles is propaganda

Chinese vehicles don’t have long term quality comparable ei Japanese cars, yet.

dedboooo0@reddit

And when exactly will this “long term quality” come to fruition. After 30 years of ownership? You need to come to terms with the fact that modern Chinese manufacturing due to obvious reasons is now just as good as, if not better than Japanese manufacturing. They collaborate on a lot of things in fact. My perspective comes from the fact that their vehicles have had a huge presence in my home country for the last 6 years and they have been reliable, desirable even, for the most part, especially with the EV rush, to the point that they have been selling out. Of course there are still chinesium manufacturers, especially for motorcycles(with the sole exception of CFmoto) and public transit vehicles, but the big names especially for personal vehicles have had pretty stringent standards and impeccable build quality

This is bullshit. Experience is lacking, materials are lacking. Lots of complaints about formerly hyped cars like the Xiaomi SU7. It’s almost as if experience in building cars plays a role.
View on Reddit #82111032

dedboooo0@reddit

That’s a model specific issue. There are plenty of reliable vehicles, like the BYD Han for example. The Xiaomi SU7 was an extremely gimmicky vehicle built in a short period of time with manufactured hype. I don’t think it represents the industry well, even Chinese owners are upset with that car. Like I said these cars have had a strong presence in my home country where people are generally frugal. Unreliable vehicles would not fly there, yet Chinese cars have been doing well.

There is no such idea that Japanes are the best. Its probably European that are the best.
View on Reddit #81742625

Drazlash@reddit

Yeah bro, at no point in history have Japanese cars have had the status of the most reliable and accessible cars. Europeans always had that tittle lmao.

Oh yeah here's a great example of German engineering https://www.reddit.com/r/Justrolledintotheshop/comments/gfn0qk/timing_chain_job_on_a_42_v8_audi_this_is_the/

I'm not reading some anecdote of someone who had an issue with their car. Fact is the nicest cars with the best brands are European.

That's literally a picture of an Audi V8 and how poorly they engineered the timing chain.

I have yet to see just ONE Chinese car that I would buy with my own money simply because I wanted it. There is not a single model across a hundred "brands" i would buy because I liked the product. Thats the difference between a disposable tool that does a job and an object of desire, and for me, they have not done that yet.
View on Reddit #81744972

Dachshand@reddit

Tbf a BYD Seal is far more desirable than a Model 3/Y. Most Chinese cars are.

mgobla@reddit

There just was a post with sales numbers from the Chinese market a few days ago. Many patriotic chinese buyers who bought a chinese brand car changed back to foreign brands recently. Sales numbers dropped. Why would they do that if they were happy with their chinese car?
View on Reddit #81762010

Dachshand@reddit

Only reason for that was that the state subsidies for EVs disappeared.

I visited China in 2024, had arranged for a driver to pick us up at Beijing airport. Dude had come in a (as far as I could tell) brand new Changan - and I remember immediately being shocked at how nice it was. Interior build was fantastic - nice materials, comfortable seats, doors closed with a solid "thunk", and the tech in the front looked great (I don't read Chinese so I can only guess). Anyways I was very impressed with the car... until he pulled out of the park. The engine was making a *horrifying* noise, like it was full of gravel or something. We've had an EV for a decade so I'm used to silence but this thing - the closest sound I've heard was after I accidentally dropped an old Quantum Bigfoot hard drive (if you know, you know). We were in the back, so we were (I assume) right by the rear motor. Our driver either didn't notice (or didn't care) that the thing sounded absolutely *fucked*. Anyways - hopefully it's not emblematic of a bigger problem - but man did it leave an impression. Anyways, while exploring Beijing & Shanghai we did wander into a few shopping mall showrooms to look at miscellaneous Chinese cars - I have to say that at the least their design, fit, finish, and tech all seem to be world-class - but whether or not these cars last I think is something we'll need to see over time, but I can speak from personal experience that a Japanese designed (US built) EV will last a decade comfortably and that it drives as well today as the day we bought it.

No - I apologize, I used the terms "engine" and "motor" interchangeably - it was an EV.

Doesn’t matter if they care or not. It’s that complacency that relegated American cars to where they are now. Korean cars and now Chinese cars will be quickly eroding the Japanese car market

-AbeFroman@reddit

Japanese cars are the best because they've been experts for decades at building simple, affordable, and highly durable cars. One generation of Chinese vehicles doesn't dissuade that, time will tell if these vehicles are worth their salt.
View on Reddit #81752756

LOL_YOUMAD@reddit

Japanese were considered the best for reliability as a buy it and forget it type vehicle outside of regular maintenance vs like the best quality out there. China likely makes some great cars too but places like the states will never have them available so they aren’t even an option
View on Reddit #81743110

Chinese car could take them in future, but they need long time to do it. Japanese automakers have taken three decades to build their reputation. Right now, Chinese automakers are feeling like early Hyundai.
