I was on the 97 between Toppanish and Biggs junction in Oregon around 4 this morning, the moon was bright and the sun was just coming up. As I was coming down the mountain side, I hit a big bird, it was stuck on my hood and the front bar. I pulled over to the side to remove it, and as I opened my door and turn to face the truck, something Like a feathered wing wrapped around my neck and face, I grabbed on to the steering wheel, but it yanked me out of the truck and slammed me on top of the hood of my truck. Someone else was coming up the mountain as this was happening, and he pulled over to come help me, then something stabbed him from the back to the front, and smashed his body on top of mine, as he was about to get smashed down on me, I shook awake and realized I was about to wreck the truck onto the Cliffside. I slammed on my breaks and turned sharply, got out and said shit, time to get to the sleeper

nevadan here, yeah, good call. calmly and quickly get the fuck back in your truck any time some weird shit makes the hackles on your neck stand up at night. the best play is to get into town asap, but if you just have a ton of desert to cross, then i'd just lock the doors, close the curtains and pull out your big gun.

I worked at the Nevada nuclear test site for several years and have stories forever. The worst of them being when a robot security vehicle deemed my truck as a threat, or when I missed a turn and ended up at the gate for area 51 and had marines pointing automatic rifles at my truck.

That one was rough. There were three armed marines, two kept rifles aimed in my direction while the other one came up to my door. I was told I needed to immediately vacate the premises. There was nowhere to turn around, so I asked the marine where am I supposed to turn around or go and I was told it’s not his concern I just have to vacate the premises immediately. I ended up having a back up approximately a quarter of a mile to find a safe spot to turn around. I was still shaking and needed to stop to clean up my shorts. It happened to be the sedan crater, which is a restricted area, but it’s not guarded so the best part I guess is I got smoke a cigarette on the viewing platform of the crater.

Not really. There was a cold front that came through and I had 10 miles to being home. It was 31.9° or so and I knew it would freeze any minute and be black ice, but the ground temperature wasn't there yet. I slowed down since I was worried. A little car and a motor home passed me doing @65 or 70. A few minutes later I crest a hill to an overpass and the motor home is stopped dead in the right lane with the little car facing the wrong direction just beyond. I eased into the left lane and passed them at 35 mph. Their eyes were wide open. They were sure they were about to get nailed by a semi on a frozen overpass.

I was somewhere over in the Southwest and it was basically all desert around me on this dinky little Two lane road with a random middle of nowhere 4 way intersection. That had a single street light. there are no houses or really anything anywhere around this intersection. I saw what I thought was a large dog walk into the intersection then become a person and just continue walking.

This just happened to my husband 2 nights ago. A guy at the yard had weird energy and started talking to husband and his trainer. My husband is a US citizen of Russian descent and so is his trainer. The weird guy started talking racism stuff and almost got to fists saying that “my people built this country” and that they “needed to go back to their own country.” Husband de-escalated the situation and just said “I’m sorry, I’m in training right now and we need to get back to the truck”, and the guy stalked off to his truck. They were worried all night about how they weren’t sure if the guy was going back for a gun—he was that heated about them. I would have left the yard but I guess they stayed the night there without further interactions. It’s scary how you won’t know who is kind and who I out to kill you out there. Stay safe, y’all.

Had to reroute due to a dumbest dispatcher. The reroute took me down a state hwy heading back west out of Philly. No clue why and still don't really care to think about it. Truck on coming was stopped in their lane with hazards on. Guy gets out of passenger side and ran across traffic. He got hit then had his head run over and it popped. I've never seen something like that in person happen. The aftermath and a white sheet with red I've seen but never the actual full scene start to finish. To say I was in shock would be an under statement. I was numb emotional for several days. Gave my statement to police when they asked and was allowed to leave. Parked a few miles later and just kinda sat there for awhile.

Was driving east out of Amarillo early one morning in HEAVY fog, runnibg about 45-50mph, sun coming up just made it worse, thought I saw the outline of bushes or trees in the distance, turned out to be a truck & trailer on its side stretched out across both eastbound lanes. Saw it just in time to hit the term and managed to avoid all the 4-wheelers who got there before I did. If I'd seen it 5 seconds later I'd have nailed him in the fuel tanks.

I was doing some inner city work a few years ago in Toronto and just as I'm making a right hand turn a little booger eater on a bike with training wheels got away from his mother. In the time it took me to recognize the danger and stop my turn, I lost sight of the kid, but the mother shriek turn my blood to ice. He stopped before entering the crosswalk, good couple feet between him and my back tandem. He was bawling because his mom was shrieking and then giving him a piece of her mind. I had to take a few minutes down the road

Scariest was being caught in a white out. Twenty minutes of a solid paper white windshield. Roll down the window and stuck my arm out and watched it disappear. Drove slowly with flashers on and listened for the rumble strip in the pavement to tell me I was staying on the pavement. Praying to god that I wouldn’t hit anyone or get hit by anyone. I’ve also been in a wreck when a four wheeler made a u turn in front of me on the interstate. And come down a mountain out west with brakes fading. Lots of other dangerous and questionable situations and surprises. Trucking life is something that else. I’ve been in safety and operations over the years that have allowed me to see some things that make you go WTF 😳 🤬 😬

I was driving East on I-40 in Tennessee. Pouring rain and visibility was limited. I was in the travel lane. A four wheeler spun out from the passing lane and crossed three lanes to end up perpendicular in front of me. Thankfully I was on the pedal, eased off, threw on my four ways for the cars behind me, and passed them in the lane they left. I was more calm than I expected myself to be considering how new I was. This was right around the end of my first year.
