How religious are eastern Washington, eastern Oregon, and northwestern Nevada? Is faith the main driver of the culture in the area, and if so, which denominations have the most influence there?

Western conservative is different than southern conservative and eastern/north eastern conservative. It’s a broad generalization but the anti-gay stuff plays bigger in the south and the pro-business stuff plays better in the north east. Out west it’s more libertarian light, focused on “getttinf the government out of my business” rhetoric. Obviously this isn’t a hard and fast rule but if you look at what kind of republicans are elected from each region you see those patterns pretty often. Democrats also have regional differences but I think they are more centered on focusing on economic issues like wages and unions vs race and social justice issues. I feel that the regional differences among dems are less severe than among republicans. The anti-gay stuff is poison for republicans in the northeast but it’s not like wages and unions aren’t a concern for republicans. This is what happens when the two party’s have such different approaches to policy. Democrats are largely pro something. Major policy planks include things like raising the minimum wage, passing laws to restrict bad actors in various places, expanding access to sections of society previously denied minorities, etc. Republican policies are largely anti something. Laws to restrict drug use, laws to restrict gay people from getting married, laws to restrict trans athletes, etc. being against something constantly means that not all your base will be against all those things. So Republicans in the South talk about gays and Muslims. In the northeast it’s about regulation and taxes.
