Reddit Rant Megathread
Posted by UnflinchingSugartits@reddit | RedditAlternatives | View on Reddit | 52 comments
Hello everyone, as we've all noticed, there have been many Reddit complaint posts that unfortunately don't offer any alternatives, just venting. Which we understand, that's why we're all here. However, I think its important to really highlight what this subs main purpose is for; posting alternatives, promoting alternatives, reddit alternative discussions, and seeking alternatives.
To stay on course (And remain on topic) I am creating this Reddit Rant mega thread. My hopes, are too keep the main feed focused on alternatives but also have a free space for people to just overall rant about Reddit.
So, this is your space to do just that.
REDDIT RANT MEGATHREAD
If you've got something to say about Reddit, say it here. No judgment, no "well actually", just a place to vent freely.
A few ground rules to keep things civil:
• Rant about the platform, policies, and experiences — not individual users • No doxxing or targeted harassment • Keep it to Reddit grievances
Why are we doing this?
We want to keep the main feed focused on finding and discussing actual alternatives, but we also recognize that venting is part of the process. A lot of people come here frustrated and need to get it out before they're ready to move on. This thread is for that.
So go ahead — what drove you here? What's your Reddit story? Drop it below.

Reddit is the worst social media platform I’ve ever used. I always have to worry whether my comment or post is actually visible, or if it got hidden by karma limits, filters, and rules.
I still can’t understand why redditors keep using that app.
Kriem@reddit
My rant: the anount of hoops you have to go through to actually post something in some subreddits is annoying af. And then after postung it gets auto-removed, sometimes with a surprise (shadow) ban. Ugh.
Roryrhino@reddit
some solace that since reddit has so much friction for real people to interact, all the ai trained on it is going to be stunted and pre-lobotomised by being trained on bots and outliers.
UnflinchingSugartits@reddit (OP)
Yea, that's definitely frustrating fs
Straight-Contest91@reddit
My rant: Since the removal of r/all, I've noticed reddit starting to push these strange bot filled subreddits all pushing the same narrative: Reddit users are in a bubble, and delusional with regards to anything politcal that is happening right now in the world. Like there is some sort of political agenda being pushed pushed by creating these "communities" all discussing a specific discourse. If I see a whole bunch of people saying these things, I might think that its true right? This site is becoming pretty weird tbh, this isn't really reddit anymore. I'm not going to name the subreddits, but if I try to comment on any of these subreddits, theres almost never any engagement, hmm wonder why.

As a more senior person in his 50s, I find Reddit odd, or rather some moderators...
I emigrated from the UK to the US two years ago...
In a recent subreddit, someone about to move to the US from England for work asked a few questions...
I replied, with helpful advice, mentioned no services at all, such as cellphones or other services, kept my reply very generic. and it was removed....
At the fourth attempt, I messaged the mods, respectfully...And was promptly banned from that subreddit!
Reddit could, and should, be as ubiquitous as google, but some moderators, and the administrators at Reddit, seem very happy to keep it as a deep dark secret, almost like the freemasons!
OpenAirport6204@reddit
This is a genuine question from an American who was (unfortunately?) born here, why would you want to come here?
CleanKidAlways@reddit
Simple :
I have no living family in the UK, whilst my wife has kids and grandkids in the USA.
Palnubis@reddit
Problem is when you give alternatives, you're being bashed for not providing alternatives, lol.
I run a free forum hosting platform, it takes literally 1 minute to setup your own forum https://forumspark.net/ and last time I posted about this I got some nasty comments about it.
OpenAirport6204@reddit
I have a question. I am on mobile and I cannot seem to see a way to look at other forums before creating my own. Also what are your community guidelines?
Palnubis@reddit
You can find our directory here. Most forums don't show here, only a couple. I'll also link the support forum: https://forumspark.net/directory

I made a post on mildly infuriating talking about my insurance and complaining about how I still have to pay $900 after insurance and there is someone in the comments repeatedly lying and just arguing with me about my own health for some reason.
I have seen this too many times on Reddit, I hate it here so I am going to quit.
ZombieDracula@reddit
killing r/all is kinda the last straw for me. I am distraught. This fucking sucks.
StudyingAt3AM@reddit
Communities are often so plastic-ised on here.
I cannot post a story about how the local schoolchildren took time out of their day to put a dead birds body aside, because the mention of death is a big NoNo!
(But people are talking happily about chicken wings - which in fact is many dead birds, whose bodies nobody cared about besides their use for profit and who definitly did not live a better life)
IMDXLNC@reddit
I was thinking of making a forum and surprisingly I did think of "local stories from around the world" as kind of a good forum section idea.
StudyingAt3AM@reddit
Lmk if you end up making it! Would be super interested in seeing it :)
IMDXLNC@reddit
I'm currently building a simple old-school style forum with a friend and have added your suggestion as a section.
Forum's not exactly there yet since spreading the word is difficult but I'll send you a link soon.
StudyingAt3AM@reddit
However you prefer - I am happy to hear about it at any time. Sooner or later does not matter that much to me :)
IMDXLNC@reddit
Link here.
It's an extremely new forum so there's only myself and a friend, but I'm hoping you and others can join up and with some patience, help me build it into something good and spread the word. I've linked you directly to the board you wanted.
StudyingAt3AM@reddit
Darn, that looks cool!
I gotta get used to classic style forums - but I adore it so far!
IMDXLNC@reddit
Thank you. Everything's up for changing except the classic forum style because I miss it a lot.
It needs some massive growth though so spread it around if you can.
StudyingAt3AM@reddit
Ofc! I love it!
Will do \^\^

I was just banned with no warning from r/news for a comment that does not break the rules and then muted in mod mail for asking about it.
I am so over this site. Ghislane was a mod here and I should have stooped here when I found out.
I came here to find an alternative, look forward to talking to y'all somewhere else where the rules actually matter and not just some mods ego who you have inadvertently harmed.
This only seems to happen when you are in opposition to a very specific few topics. I no longer trust that this place and suspect it is almost completely controlled.
gyrateguy@reddit
Rather than complaining, I just built my own site. It wasn't even that hard. I think the hardest part was storing hierarchical data in an RDBMS so it could be queried efficiently (e.g. for nested comments). The like button was also a bit more involved than I thought (efficiently tallying all the likes for user reputations, etc.). I'm still ironing out some of the details, but now that I know how easy it is to build Reddit, I believe even more strongly than I did before that only losers complain about Reddit.
For those of you who are wasting your free time on stupid things like video games, I'd like to remind you that the Internet can be its own kind of video game if you use it properly, and that all the time you're spending building and optimizing fake machines in Factorio or whatever would probably be better spent building and optimizing real machines that real people can actually use. Then you'll have some actual skills you can sell in the real world to get rich, and you'll have even less to complain about.
I know this won't convince anyone of anything, but I just wanted to take this opportunity to make the complainers feel bad, because they should feel bad. Also, check out what we're building at gyrate dot org! It's the only place I know of where insults, profanity, trolling, and generally acting like an idiot is strongly encouraged!
busymom0@reddit
Building a site like Reddit is easy for any developer. Building the community and having enough daily active users to post content is hard and still not cracked.
habarnam@reddit
bro
gyrateguy@reddit
The only part of Reddit I haven't had luck recreating is the part where I get drunk on the minuscule amount of power I have as a site administrator and start banning people. I guess I'm just not a big enough loser to be interested in things like that.
habarnam@reddit
Have you heard of Dunning-Krueger? Your original post has a whiff of that about it. :)
gyrateguy@reddit
What does Dunning-Krueger say about me building my own website like this instead of complaining about this one? And where's your website? ;)

Update: Someone posted a link to your 8 years of hard work on Gyrate to make fun of you, and I promise it wasn't me. 🤭
RedditAlternatives-ModTeam@reddit
Comments must be civil. What does this mean? No racism, homophobia, blasphemy, arguments, drama, trolls, insults, slurs, automated rage bots, political attacks, profile fishing, etc.
Use your best judgement. If something feels rude, it probably is rude.
habarnam@reddit
Right... pinky promise, I'm sure.
gyrateguy@reddit
Hey, I might be a troll, but I'm honest. Some might say that's part of what makes me a troll.
gyrateguy@reddit
Update: Someone posted this link to your site to make fun of you, and I promise it wasn't me. 😂
gyrateguy@reddit
See? You're making my argument for me. Building your own Reddit is so easy, even you have one!
habarnam@reddit
Lol. I've started the work on that website about 8 years ago. It's still not done... and I'm not here bragging that "doing reddit is easy". :)
What I keep hinting at you is that there's a difference between a discussion board you can code in a weekend and has issues with 100 conversations ... and something like reddit. (And I'm saying this like someone that really dislikes reddit in its current form)
gyrateguy@reddit
Yes, I agree that your bragging skills need work. Don't give up!
habarnam@reddit
I love how you trash talk yourself to yourself about my website on your website. :) You should get checked this split personality thing of yours.
prankster999@reddit
I know that you got downvoted, but I generally agree with your argument.
With that said however, I think the bigger losers are those that are complaining about Twitter...
I checked out your site at Gyrate... I prefer white backgrounds and black text.
gyrateguy@reddit
As you can see, I wrote you a nice reply, but Reddit removed it. Too bad for you!
gyrateguy@reddit
I got "downvoted?" Huh, I didn't even notice.
I will consider creating a "light mode" for people who enjoy staring at lightbulbs. Agreed that the post list layout isn't ideal. But I only recently finished the MVP, so now I get to work on optimizations and making it look nice.
I've been mulling ideas for a site like this for at least twenty years. My first attempt was around 2004 or so, but I didn't try again until about two years ago. This version launched in May 2025. It's a Python app (flask, sqlalchemy, postgresql, htmx) created from scratch with very specific goals in mind.
The overall experience has been enlightening and fun! Things I've learned:
This is only the beginning. I need to have a job for at least another year or two, but then I can retire and work on the site full time. Or better yet, I can be a troll full time if I consider working on the site a form of trolling.
CandidDependent3498@reddit
Spent ages carefully writing a vent post. I know seeking consolation on personal matters from internet strangers and bots is generally a bad idea but I'm at my wit's end. It got silently deleted from subreddit #1 so I don't know what I did wrong. Subreddit #2 didn't let me post it and instead I got some kind of warning I'm not allowed to mention Reddit. I made no references to Reddit or any subreddits so this was strange and annoying. I take out the sentence the filter got hung up on. I post. I immediately get an automated comment saying I'm not allowed to mention AI because too many people vented about AI. Post deleted.
WTF?! I just feel worse now!
I mean imagine talking to someone in the real world, taking the time to carefully express your thoughts on a matter that is concerning to you, and having the other person get up and leave because you mentioned a keyword that they didn't like. Psychologically mindfucking. The internet is such an abnormal way of interacting with people, I wish I could stop using it but I have nobody else to turn to.
italianshamangirl13@reddit
Been wondering if i'm shadowbanned or anything, since nobody ever replies to my serious calls for help in subs like /depression or /vent and it's getting really annoying i might delete this acc entirely
awdrifter@reddit
https://old.reddit.com/user/spez/comments/1s3ezrc/humans_welcome_bots_must_wear_name_tags/
Reddit is going to start pushing for human verification, I'm sure eventually they'll require face or ID scans. I'm not going to give Reddit or any third party that info. So I guess I'll have to fully switch to Scored and Gab when that happens.
Manlor@reddit
I still think the subreddit icon is making these people this is an anti-Reddit sub.
screendrain@reddit
This is an anti Reddit sub. You don't look for alternatives if you love the site
Manlor@reddit
Not that kind of anti-Reddit. Not like r/fuckepic for example, where the goal is to rant and vent.
You can look for alternatives, without being anti-Reddit. I look for product alternatives all the time. That doesn't mean I hate the original product.

Here's a sneak peek of /r/fuckepic using the top posts of the year!

Apparently they’re killing r/all on desktop today after disabling it in the mobile app not long ago. The bugs subreddit is getting multiple posts from people saying it just redirects to the homepage now. Like most Reddit changes it’ll be a staggered rollout so if you use /all expect it to break soon.
barrygateaux@reddit
trouble is that people who post rants don't tend to follow the sub guidelines or search before posting. they usual make multiple posts across different subs to increase the drama.
the people you're aiming this post at will most likely never see it and carry on regardless.
bazpoint@reddit
In a good portion of the cases not following the guidelines of other subs is what's got them into trouble, and that's why they're here raving about "I'vE bEen CeNSorED!?!?" or whatever.
