Do you really feel that much difference between 300-500HP car?

TLDR: With a few exceptions, if you are going much over 100mph and you are putting yourself and others in tremendous peril in the US because of road design. A 150hp car can go that fast all day. So no, the difference you feel would only matter if you are surging around on slow roads for some strange reason. —— On paper the performance is difference is there.But when talking about a second here or there- it doesn’t make a bit of difference in a word where a clapped out CVT Sentra can run 300miles no problems on bald tires at 105mph. But there is track day! Until you have developed your skills to point where you can extract even 70% of the 300hp cars potential with minimal drivers aids- the 500hp is basically stuffing your underwear bulge with dollar bills. This is why people love Miatas and loved old BMWs. Its why people who actually drove old RWD cars at their height of popularity and modified those things so they didn’t wallow and pitch like boats was the height of car culture and how a front wheel drive Civic could fill that roll in 1990s when that class of car was dead and rusted. Such vehicles are much closer to being manageable and enjoyed by an amateur. Yes, technically it would be more realistic if my beer league hockey team allowed checking. It would make as more sense for me to go full contact at my age than go full throttle around our face of the moon roads in the US and then take a 500hp car to track day and throw off all the drivers aids to grind up all the consumables in an afternoon. No one really cares or is impressed if you are pushing a pedal down to get up to 75mph, or briefly opening up on the highway until you realize some Malibu driver has a higher threshold of danger and passes you back 15 seconds later. Those sorts of dangerous capers have as much to do with “racing” as throwing crumpled up paper into a trash can has to do with basketball. As things stand with US infrastructure- I know Germany has some unlimited stretches most the areas I drove seemed roughly akin to the midwest in left lane pace- just fewer jalopies in left lane- we would need the entire interstate system torn up for any advantage to be gained in average speed for a 500hp and a 150hp car. We’d need better shoulders, merge ramps, exit ramps, better sight lights, superior materials and the moonscape potholes were nixxed. As for surface streets with animals, peoples and bicycles around- fuck off if you are speeding on those. To make those safe for speeds greater than say 35 or so, we’d need to add protected lanes and sidewalks everywhere. The classic 55mph country highway- always a hoot. Those are also death traps and unless billiard table flat, maxing out a 500hp vehicle on those on a regular basis is likely to make you a statistic. There are some 6 lanes where if no one is around you can go 140 for a stretch. 294 north of the airport in Chicago 90mph is the point of entry in left lane- although no one is going above 110-120 most days because you close too fast on the rest of traffic. I haven’t driven montana since 1990s- maybe the roads are better and condusive to really high rates of speed with reasonable safety. But the terminal velocity of the 300 and 500hp cars is gonna be tire limited. So let’s say it’s a flat sprint- you will basically hit 160 or whatever a few seconds earlier and then what? The 300hp car is likely more efficient so they’d be faster over that 600 mile stint.
