This is literally about $4 worth of pa6cf and a $5 thread adapter. They work amazing though. Long story short buy a Bambu p2s download the file dry the filament and hit print all after you have filed a form one (or about 30 of them) of course. I will absolutely never buy another 9mm or .22 can. 5.56 however they have a short life span. In fact I absolutely prefer the op9 9mm can to all of my conventional 9mm cans super light quiet and doesn’t require a booster.
EngineeringKindly875@reddit
Do you have like detailed steps to do this
GableStoner@reddit (OP)
Qidi q2 over p1s is my rec. it unlocks ppa-cf which is a couple steps above.
The learning curve is a bit more than Bambu, but it's been worth it for me. I have like 15 form 1s pending.
But yeah there is soooo much cool stuff gun stuff you can print, its worth getting into
elitedlarss@reddit
Never 3d printed. Too steep if a learning curve to jump in with 2a stuff?
GableStoner@reddit (OP)
I wouldn't jump immediately in as your first print, but if you are resourceful and take the time to understand the underlying mechanics behind getting good layer adhesion, you'll probably be good to go pretty quick. I wouldn't do anything too risky to start off with though tbh.
There are tons of resources out there, and the "institutional" open source knowledge base continues to grow every day.
My rec would be printing with some cheaper filaments at first to get the hang of the slicing software while learning principles behind getting layer adhesion of the specific filament you will print with, and then taking a go. Every filament is a little bit different, so it takes a little bit to get a feel for each.
A lot of people will just get a Bambu printer and a role of pa6, download "300blkfde" .3mf file for the settings and just let it rip. Those settings are a good starting point for that filament because pa6 likes to be printed slow, and he has the max volumetric speed to something like 5mm^3. It's usually good enough for government work to do it that way, but really each printer will have different optimal tuning it needs and each object will have optimal process settings.
For printing something like a 22lr can in pa6, you will almost certainly be good to go. The forces exerted are very mild and pa6 is a pretty strong and forgiving filament. To start moving to prints that require higher end properties, you will probably need to take the time to really learn it.
DoctorDirtnasty@reddit
it also has open source firmware which insulates you from any chinese funny business and retarded 3d printing bans.
GableStoner@reddit (OP)
Whoever downvoted you is tripping. Those Bambus will almost certainly be the ones affected by those bans, assuming they pass, which wouldn't surprise me if they did.
azgunnit@reddit
They said P2S not P1s.
Both can print ppa-cf or PA6 at 300 degrees.
Stickbird3D@reddit
Ppa-cf at 300 has poor layer adhesion vs the recommended 315. I strongly suggest something that can print at least 320
GableStoner@reddit (OP)
Yeah he did, good catch.
I'm not super familiar with the ins and outs of bambu models, but did want to mention that it's worth having a heated chamber as well.
Aside from that, I've found I get better z strength from printing a little hotter than that. For .22lr it genuinely does not matter. For Intermediate cartridge though, that type of stuff starts to matter.
RegardedDipshit@reddit
More than $4, pa6cf is expensive.
Ancient-Plantain705@reddit
Closer to like $12 in filament based on my last printed can. Not counting the number of hours it takes at 300blkFDE's settings (read as slow) and the associated electric costs, etc.
DrRichardShaftPhD@reddit
So...pennies? It's not like 3D printers consume a lot of electricity.
ExistingClient8148@reddit
Sunlu pa6f I just bought last week 3 1kg rolls for $71 off Ali shipped from US. It’s not that pricey.
ExistingClient8148@reddit
That’s $23 a roll but even Amazon it’s $40 a kg
ExistingClient8148@reddit
My ftn 5 rimfire slim uses 65g of filament even counting waste I could print 12 from one roll….so even at Amazon price that’s about $3 worth of filament
Stickbird3D@reddit
He actively suggests that people with the proper licenses sell these
ExistingClient8148@reddit
I agree with that they need to be so common that it’s common use. The way to do that is make them affordable they can do better on the price and help the movement no one is getting rich off of a $100 can but they can move the needle to common use with something that sells for $40-$50 and still make a massive profit.
Stickbird3D@reddit
I would think $75 is probably a better middle ground. There are costs to getting the SOT, and printing setups, and time spent doing atf paperwork. I’m all for people making a few bucks, but also making them affordable enough. There is always the possibility of waste from failed prints, electricity costs, all sorts of little things that add up.
GableStoner@reddit (OP)
Just want to point out that PLA boi wants people to sell these, it helps further the cause. Most of us creators/contributors share this mindset.
Also worth calling out that are a lot of FFLs who have $75 transfer fees just to do a form 4. I'm not sure what all paperwork is involved for an SOT to produce these, but if it's at least as much as a form 4, then these essentially are priced at $75.
If these weren't regulated I think they would probably cost about $20 tbh.
RegardedDipshit@reddit
Hasn't everyone pretty much moved to pa612 or pet-cf anyway? pa6 absorbs too much moisture, weakens over time, everything you print with it essentially has an expiration date.
ExistingClient8148@reddit
No pa6 cf is amazing for these it’s what was suggested in the pdf from the designer (who honestly should be getting a check from these guys)
RegardedDipshit@reddit
Yeah I know it's suggested, I just question if it should be, a lot of people are moving away. None of these suppressors are going to be structurally sound in 1 year+. As soon as they are exposed to any humidity for an extended period they're done.
ExistingClient8148@reddit
I live in about the most humid environment you can be in in the states it’s been fine for me so far and I have an ftn4 that’s well over a year old. Pa612cf comes pretty wet usually and needs dryingbut it’s not like it’s a sponge I know for the probably $5 all in I have in mine I’m impressed. I’m even more impressed in the knock off flux raider 365 I just printed a couple of weeks ago lol….. soooooo much more than suppressors to print.

This is the innovation that removing the tax stamp has brought upon us. Image what will happen when all the paperwork is removed as well?
internetenjoyer69420@reddit
IDK man I feel like the midterms and next POTUS will swing back left and they'll jack up the NFA tax even higher than before.
DieselNGin556@reddit
This.
Also, I would be shocked if they don't use FRT triggers as an excuse to try to ban all semi-autos because they can now be "easily converted to full auto".
But for now, this is the good 'ol days, gentlemen. Let's enjoy them !
Gr144@reddit
I doubt the feds will ever be able to go that far but yes there will absolutely be a crackdown on FRTs.
I am concerned about the level of executive power the presidency now has and what someone like Gavin Newsom could do with it.
LXNDSHARK@reddit
You're not concerned about what the guy who's currently president is doing with it?
Gr144@reddit
When did I say that?
Hinagea@reddit
We should all be worried about the gun grabber that sits in that chair right now
Earthwarm_Revolt@reddit
Im guessing a crack down on voting then a crack down on everything else.
Sasselhoff@reddit
Every other post on this sub seems to be for FRT triggers (or the equivalent)...like yourself I'm concerned, because once it becomes common knowledge that everyone can easily buy a "full auto" things will indeed crack down.
tankspikefayebebop@reddit
Yeah, I have waited to get into for 2 reasons 1) I think they will start cracking down hard eventually 2) I have no where to shoot em. As much fun as it looks shooting them into a box in the garage.
From my understanding the only technical one that the ATF says is legal are rare breed (I wouldn't support them anymore because they are suing Hoffman Tactical who designed the super safety). Eventually they will start cracking down. I think people will win in court but man I dont want to be thrown in jail like that YouTuber for years and lose everything to fight the case. No one is covering my expenses like he had. Other than that I love seeing all these guys with more stones than me shooting them.
Sasselhoff@reddit
That's my concern too...if I buy one, how long will it be before I'm getting a knock on the door? I'd just as soon skip it as deal with that. Besides, I'm way too cheap for any FRT that doesn't shoot 22lr, haha.
Resident_Skroob@reddit
Fudd has FRTs two for $140. They're not pricey.
Unless you mean the ammo, then Jesus yes, I agree. My AR22 has probably 10k rds on it because ammo is cheap.
Sasselhoff@reddit
Haha, definitely the ammo. Even the "nice" FRTs don't even come close to the cost of ammo for a "normal" AR. I'll tell you what though, I'm super tempted to get one and then see if my CMMG "drop in" 22lr bolt for my AR will work...because that would be entirely too much fun (I hear it takes a bunch of extra parts and whatnot though).
Resident_Skroob@reddit
Get the kit from GMR. Works with CMMG for a SSAR22 (what I run).
JakeEllisD@reddit
Prior to 2025 court cases they did knock on people's doors but after those cpurt cases they returned people's FRTs iirc
Next_Entertainer_404@reddit
Another reason I refuse to buy from RB. They’ll give up your info to the Feds in an instant.
samiam0295@reddit
Don't answer the door

More than likely however I would guess more frt's have been sold than bunpstocks I would guess there will just be a ban on the sale of frts. Same if there is ever a nationwide mag limit. I would guess it will just be no sale of mags above 20 rounds or 10.
MazeRed@reddit
Something something 30 round mags, something something boating accident
MyDadBeatsUpYourCat@reddit
Or until the next chronically online reddit weirdo shoots up a school or something with one installed. Game over for the FRT then. (Because we all know that is the issue... /s)
whybag@reddit
Remember when a string of social outcast weirdos working part time at a burger joint all had the same Daniel Defense carbines somehow?
d_student@reddit
I feel like I'm missing a reference.
MyDadBeatsUpYourCat@reddit
Don't you start noticing things!
RegardedDipshit@reddit
I'm very pro 2a but am fully in favor of a full ban of everything for reddit mods. The founders could have never foreseen such losers
MyDadBeatsUpYourCat@reddit
Oh absolutely.
ITS COMMON SENSE.
Rurikungart@reddit
Yeah, I'm in a weird place where part of me is glad to see the second amendment exercised, but another part is like "Yep, this is going to be the group of kids that gets everyone put in a seating arrangement over the lunch period." Doing whatever we can to legally circumnavigate the current regulations to get as close to things like full auto only creates calls for more regulations.
Sasselhoff@reddit
Couldn't have said it better myself.
caterham09@reddit
I think banning semi automatic weapons would be a bridge too far. They'll likely ban FRT's though. I have no doubts about that
kiileyy@reddit
Maryland is banning all glocks because they can accept the already federally and state banned switches….. it’s not far off
BackbackB@reddit
We just have to say things like "I support Israel as long as I can have cheap nfa items" and like magic it will not change

Yep
Micho_Rizzo51@reddit
This will certainly happen. Itll be an easy $2k when the left gets full control
mynewaccount5@reddit
Wait until people see what their local FFL charges for NFA fees.
juggarjew@reddit
For real haha, its a much better option for the average joe to buy metal cans OR 3d print their own PA6 Nylon CF/GF cans.
I cant really support commercial nylon cans because you can print an unlimited number at home at with a $550 Bambu P2S and $0 stamps...
MisterMorgo@reddit
Is this the generally preferred printer for these kind of items? Sick of the mess of my resin printer and wanting a PA6 printer.
juggarjew@reddit
For the money I think it’s the best value for sure, comes ready to go out of the box for nylon printing. I’ve had really good results with mine so far printing PA6-GF. Just be certain that you use a glue stick for bed adhesion!
I got the AMS-HT and it works great with PA6-GF and now, with the latest beta firmware, it lets me dry the filament while printing! Im really pleased with it
shapeshiftsix@reddit
I just got a P2S like a month ago, does the AMS 2 Pro dry the filament out the same as the HT? Wanna get into the CF stuff for frames/cans
juggarjew@reddit
So kind of, yes the AMS 2 can dry while printing. But you do need the external DC power adapter for that, bit included but cheap. However, the AMS 2 maxes out at 65C which is not hot enough for nylons like PA6.
For that you would use the AMS-HT , which does include a 120 volt power cord and is ready to heat while printing right out of the box.
shapeshiftsix@reddit
Awesome, thanks for the reply. I don't have either one as MC didn't have the combos in stock when I picked mine up.
juggarjew@reddit
Yeah I ordered my AMS-HT online from Bambu , honestly, all you need is the P2S itself and the AMS-HT if you're not really interested in multi color prints. Though I loving having an assortment of PETG/PLA all dried and ready for me in the AMS 2 Pro.
You can also print an "annealing tray" for your AMS-HT, while it doesnt quite get hot enough for proper PA6 annealing, it can still do some work, and works well of course for lower filaments, I printed one in PA6-GF and it working great for me, gives you another great use for the AMS-HT:
https://makerworld.com/en/models/1499576-ams-ht-annealing-tray#profileId-1568590
MisterMorgo@reddit
Seems the QUDI Q2 also draws high marks for future firmware update security/independence?
juggarjew@reddit
Im not aware of that brand and I only trust in Bambu Labs because I started out with a P1S, and everyone I know has a bambu labs of some kind. That said, the P2S is a massive quality of life upgrade over the P1S and I think they did a great job with it. The fact you can get one with the AMS 2 for like $799 is an incredible value.
You can also run it in LAN only mode if you dont want your print files going over their servers. With this latest beta firmware that allows AMS units to dry while printing I feel like its perfect now.
grivooga@reddit
For overall ease of use, yes. Without mods the bambu machines are really right at the edge of their capabilities when printing nylon. I think the Qidi machines are the best value for printing nylon and capable of working with some materials that the bambu machines just can't do.
GableStoner@reddit (OP)
Considering the mechanical and HDT properties of PPA-CF, especially with the for .22lr, id save the money on the steel cans and either just get a printer if you want to pick up a new hobby or just go with a PPA-CF can that performs just as well for 1/3 of the price of the steel.
At least for a use case of slow firing schedules. If you are ripping your frt, I'd definitely still go with a steel cans
juggarjew@reddit
Thing is FRTs are super widespread now, Taurus TX22, MP5, ARs, Glocks, etc. We should be moving away from plastic cans if at all possible.
Now running a plastic can on my Ruger Precision Rimfire is one thing but on my TX22 is quite another haha. I def recommend metal cans where possible in a world with FRTs.
GableStoner@reddit (OP)
Yeah I hear you. They are super fun, but I guess in my mind they lose their novelty fast. Even with .22lr, I much more enjoy precision shooting.
Different strokes though, I totally get it.
Also, these cans are 100% capable of fully auto.
Chris put a total of something like 700 rounds on his full auto .22lr, a little over 200 rounds back to back in each video. There is a little bit of baffle deformation, but that didn't happen until the last video, and I think that was just because he had way less malfunctions. And that can is just pa6. PPA-CF has an even higher HDT.
My point is that these are far more than capable of handling full auto/FRT in .22lr. It's just not something I would do all the time.
Best way to think about it is buying this can for the same use case that you would get a Ti can for.

Quw10@reddit
The upside too is you don't have to pay for engraving of you design your own and or have access to some form of CAD software, you can just incorporate your info into the design before printing it.
juggarjew@reddit
Not allowed, there was recent controversy over this but the ATF has been noting on form 1s that they are not ok with plastic engraving and never have been.
Quw10@reddit
I just had one approved where I stated in the description that it would be designed into the model before printing.
juggarjew@reddit
Yup, not allowed. Your examiner simply wasn’t up to date or just new. The ATFs overall stance is that it’s not allowed.
https://www.reddit.com/r/3D2A/s/7dhJg8wazq
Quw10@reddit
Mine didn't get a conditional approval like theirs, but mines also not 100% printed. https://imgur.com/a/2juYWv0
juggarjew@reddit
Doesn’t matter, serial number isn’t allowed to be printed on plastic or engraved into plastic. If you’re engraving it on metal you’re good
2026BurnerAct@reddit
Mine charges $50, so im heavily considering this one, but i just bought a wolfman.
daffydubs@reddit
Mine is $100 + other add ons if you don’t buy it direct from them.
2026BurnerAct@reddit
Wait are they charging a $100 NFA transfer when you to buy through them? If so you're being robbed and find someone new.
daffydubs@reddit
If you buy from them, they won’t charge the $100. I get it, they want to keep the full or chase in house. But they never have anything in stock or at their warehouse.
Rigitini@reddit
$50 here, too. And they are a range so they allow "Conjugal Visits" while you wait for the form 4.
Ok_Fan4354@reddit
Primary Arms waives the fee if you buy an optic or spend like $150 or so.. really reasonable. definitely a win- win- win .:. and L. Wins for manufacturer, PA, and the buyer, and an L to the wife.. but I’m ok with that here
jetbuilt1980@reddit
15 minutes down the beltway and $150 worth of other shit i was gonna buy anyway and the transfer fee is waived on FFL transfers, I didnt know they waived NFA fees too.
caterham09@reddit
One of the FFL's near me charges fucking $200 for NFA transfers.
Honesty even the cheap places are $100. Means the only way to play the game is to buy from silencer shop
winewagens@reddit
$25 for my local FFL, so this could be a fun one
GoldieForMayor@reddit
Yeah, you could just download the STLs.
Romnir@reddit
Wait, we can just print them now? No paperwork?
LostPrimer@reddit
no 200$ stamp, you still have to file a form1
Romnir@reddit
Boo, but better than nothing I guess. It's progress.
DeafHeretic@reddit
“When”?
Don’t you mean “if”?
Don’t hold your breath waiting for it to happen.
Ancient-Plantain705@reddit
That's legit like a 1000% markup. Good for you bud. Seriously, great gig.
KineticTechProjects@reddit
ITAR fee to sell supressors is like $3000. SOT fee is $500. Taxes take close to 50% these days if take SS, medicare, state, local, and federal into account. Plus printers, other business fees, employees, health insurance, etc. It's not that crazy of a markup.
GableStoner@reddit (OP)
Don't look up how much steel costs per oz lol.
A lot of this stuff is expensive because it's a lot of time and effort that goes into meeting ATF standards, paperwork, doing people's form 4s, etc.
If it wasn't for all that we could get them for like $10 tops.
Cans in general shouldn't be expensive, but people need to get paid for their time, especially in the US.
ExistingClient8148@reddit
Are these laser engraved I don’t think so at least not in the pics.. fiber laser isnt terrible expensive though commarker has the 20w on sale occasionally for $1200 would pay for itself quickly
GableStoner@reddit (OP)
Yessir, check out the last pic. It's engraved on the washer which is epoxied.
ExistingClient8148@reddit
Ohh very nice may not be necessary but better to cover that base for sure
ExistingClient8148@reddit
I would like to see this product with a legal binder when you buy absolving from liability and no expressed warranty and sold for like $40 shipped in a plain ass box with a sheet of bubble wrap. That’s industry changing.
GableStoner@reddit (OP)
Go for it brotha! Would love to see that too
GableStoner@reddit (OP)
The only chance of that happening is if the ATF makes it so you don't need to do any paperwork, registration, tracking, etc.
I don't know any SOTs who will do 2 form 4s for $20, which this is about the paperwork equivalent.
$40 would be a realistic if not high price if it wasn't for that aspect of the industry.
Ancient-Plantain705@reddit
Oh I didn't say it wasn't a fair price. You've got overhead, licensing fees, failed prints, etc. cost of doing business. I hope it's profitable for you, genuinely.
GableStoner@reddit (OP)
Lol thank you. It will undoubtedly be profitable. Worth the headache? TBD
Ancient-Plantain705@reddit
regardless, godspeed in serving the mission.
HuntStag@reddit
Snap! Am I rich enough to afford my first suppressor?! What a day
How long do these typically last?
azgunnit@reddit
You can buy a 3d printer that can produce this for the same amount of money.
GableStoner@reddit (OP)
This isnt just your standard nylon though. These are printed in engineering grade filaments. To get a printer capable of printing hot enough, heated enclosure, etc you're looking at $550+ minimum including the filament. Now tack on a filament dryer can dry at 120c (I'm not a huge proponent of air fryers for various reasons), and also laser engraving the washer (or however you want to go about that). You'll be about $650- $750 all in.
PA6 is a good and easy to print filament especially for 9mm and 22lr, but if you want to print PPA-CF, expect quite a few failed prints, and in addition to learning the slicing software, you'll have to spend some time spent learning how to diagnose and figure out what went wrong.
For most of us who are into guns, it's worth the investment. But please understand that these are not prints you can recreate for $125.
azgunnit@reddit
GableStoner@reddit (OP)
Lmao you are commenting about topic that us attracts us "actually" nerds like flies. The minutiae here though is that a lot of us are actually touching grass and beta testing this stuff, not just echoing things we hear on the internet

azgunnit@reddit
I can't help but drop the know it all meme on you when you keep trying to mansplain shit to me that I've been doing hands on for half a decade. I've got the sub $200 printers with all the tinkering done to make them print real world stuff, along with a whole bunch of other printers including the higher end ones that you just press a button and don't think about shit. At no point was I speaking on a subject I am not intimately familiar with.
GableStoner@reddit (OP)
If this true then huge kudos to you, that's insanely impressive. I'd love to hear your build list and some info on how you were able to put put something so capable together so cheap
HuntStag@reddit
I’ve been pondering this, are the budget printer units able to print quality parts with acceptable precision? What materials can the budget printers work with? I have too many questions on the printer front At this point $125 and the convenience id probably just purchase the can but maybe down the road ¯_(ツ)_/¯
ManOf1000Usernames@reddit
The Bambu Printers solved this for the home user. Just setup the printer and filament and go.
The only sticky bit is they demand internet connection to connect to their propritary hosting site, so who knows what they are sending in metadata, especially if the government decides to snoop later.
You can sever it from the internet and just use it local LAN, or using sd cards to transfer from computer.
CommunalJellyRoll@reddit
I have printed a few .22 cans on mine. The clamp ones ones last the longest vs thread on ones. I'm using PLA+ on a P1S. I could go to a better material or even glue a metal thread adapter into them but I'm shit ass lazy and they work well enough.
slasher0739@reddit
Look into PA612cf, it prints a lot better out of my P1S than PA6cf.
azgunnit@reddit
The golden standard entry level printer is still the Ender3 or clones of it. With enough tinkering it can absolutely print everything 2a related and can be had at that price point.
Bambulab P2s or Ender K2 will both do it with very little setup or tinkering, but cost around $500
squeeshka@reddit
Depends on your firing schedule. Heat is the main killer of suppressors. Even more so with these.
Shooting a few rounds at a time will be drastically different than using this with an FRT or something similar.
autoposting_system@reddit
Put it on your Heritage Rough Rider and wear a face shield
GableStoner@reddit (OP)
This^ There are some YouTube videos out there with people putting thousands of rounds through. Shooting fast enough to melt it is the big concern and that's pretty hard to do with .22lr
muety__@reddit
How would someone clean something like this?
Nearby-Low7071@reddit
At $125 and no tax stamp I'm pretty sure you just shoot it until it doesn't work anymore and buy a new one. The age of disposable cans is upon us.
Mountain_Man_88@reddit
It won't quite be the age of disposable cans until we can just buy them online or print them at home without having to register them. Current you still need a free stamp and ATF permission, plus I believe you'd have to tell the ATF when you dispose of it.
azgunnit@reddit
The beauty of having one that you printer and did register, is that you can print repair parts indefinitely since you are the manufacturer.
Hell...the guy that registered a potato as a silencer can even stick a new spud onto the serialized part once after he turns the first spud into mashers.
squeeshka@reddit
False. Any repairs of suppressors need to be done by an SOT. As stupid as it is, the ATF says you can not repair your own form 1 suppressor.
azgunnit@reddit
Counterpoint. IF you did repair your own plastic baffles....no you didn't. What are you going to do? Report yourself for printing more non-serialized parts?
squeeshka@reddit
I mean… if the ATF is going through your garbage, your dog is probably already dead.
I just like people knowing beforehand if they’re doing something not kosher. What they do afterwards is none of my business.
WooHoo2You@reddit
I don't understand why someone doesn't make a serialized base or 'frame' that you could then 3D print the body, core, etc for. You get a tax stamp on that one piece and you 3D print the rest of the can in whatever (or many different) configs you want.
*Something similar to an oil can adapter from years ago that you could get a tax stamp for. It was just an adapter registered as a "suppressor," a legal way to use any old oil can without the risk of becoming bubba's girlfriend in federal prison.
azgunnit@reddit
Because ATF won't approve the form 1 of such a thing.
WooHoo2You@reddit
Google "NFA oil can suppressor adapter," lots of them still for sale. cadizgunworks link suggests theirs is a actually a form 4.
azgunnit@reddit
Just because you can buy them doesn't mean you can get them approved to legally use. You can't. They won't.
WooHoo2You@reddit
LOL, the best you can come up with is a random reddit post citing "the ATF is wishy washy on whether they like them or don’t."
That's some mic drop material.
LOL...whatever dude, I just made a throw away comment that somehow you decided was the random hill you were planning to die on. Good luck with that ;)
killmrcory@reddit
https://www.atf.gov/media/14316/download
hes not wrong.
the ATF decided quite awhile ago that solvent traps were already a suppressor under federal law and thus could not be form 1ed. even if not complete they required a form 4.
WooHoo2You@reddit
Thanks for providing useful info vs reddit scuttlebutt. That being said; an ATF "decision" in 2023 might as well have been from the year of 1023. The ATF flip flops by the hour on (insert anything). So I don't actually disagree with the "wishy washy" statement made in the reddit link.
Regardless, my comment was at best throw away remark basically phrased as an "I wish" type thing. I have zero skin in the game nor will I spend $125 on this Luigi Mangione special.
*LOL, only reddit could turn "I like pizza" into a controversial statement people are willing to lose sleep over.
killmrcory@reddit
I mean, yeah youre not wrong about most of what you said.
I dont particularly care about the issue either.
i was just responding for the sake of accurate information. at least as it stands right now it is not something you can legally do unfortunately.
WooHoo2You@reddit
FWIW, I did appreciate the link. Probably a good thing (for the sake of the ATF) they likely aren't approving these type of home made cans. With the zero $ tax stamp people would be making their own by the dozen via temu solvent can kit.
Diligent-Parfait-236@reddit
Notice how you haven't seen any of those in years, it's not because people realized they suck.
WooHoo2You@reddit
They might suck (comparatively), but so do $125 3D printed suppressors where you have to pay a "nominal fee" for a warranty (that legally they have to provide in a majority of states).
I'd rather get a free tax stamp on an adapter that will last until the end of time vs this disputable piece "carbon fiber" from a glorified Ender 3
Sasselhoff@reddit
Yeah, but that happens way faster than folks think when shooting a rimfire can. I'm honestly shocked at how fast my Dead Air Mask gets filled to the point of being almost unable to disassemble.
If it was $50-75? Sure. But $125 and the paperwork makes it a no-go for me. Which sucks, because I jumped right in here when I saw that (I need another rimfire can).
Nearby-Low7071@reddit
That's highly dependent on the host. Semi auto pistol? Yeah, it'll foul up quick (ish), but It'll still last thousands of rounds before becoming unusable. A bolt action? It'll basically last forever. I put about 5k rounds (rapid fire, short barrel, very dirty) through my dead air mask while it was in jail (couldn't bring it home to clean it) and it was still working fine.
TheBlackComet@reddit
See, these are the kind of price point I am ok with for disposable cans. The Lyman can kick rocks with their aluminum offerings.
jumbopanda@reddit
Which is actually kind of a return to tradition, as many old can designs used disposable rubber baffles that had to be replaced after a certain number of rounds had been fired.
GrouchTheMongolian@reddit
this and you can modify them a bit easier than ones that cost you 5 monthly payments

Imaginary-Ad2254@reddit
I reached out to breakthrough suppressor cleaner, and they indicated I should be able to throw in my pa6cf suppressors no problem. I tested it with a pa6cf benchy and seemed to be fine... So hopefull this will work.
ChromeFlesh@reddit
uuuhhhh, is this safe? Carbon fiber dust is extremely carcinogenic and can cause mesothelioma similar to asbestos
GableStoner@reddit (OP)
I haven't experienced any amount of dust coming off of these. They don't shed fiber or dust.
Also, that would be more of a concern with the filament itself than this specific use case. I'd be more worried about the other use cases that cause friction (ie printing frames with this stuff)
As long as you're not taking a dremel to the can you'll be fine
Diligent-Parfait-236@reddit
PA6 -CF absolutely sheds fibers into the air when printing and onto surfaces when touched.
GableStoner@reddit (OP)
Idk what brand you're using that's doing that, but I have printed a ton of pa6 and have never experienced that.
Diligent-Parfait-236@reddit
You check your hands and other objects under a microscope after prints or touching parts?
It's not something you see or feel.
GableStoner@reddit (OP)
With all due respect, I think you might be conflating carbon fiber nano tubes my dude. The 3d printing filament I know of uses chopped carbon, which those fibers are bigger than microscopic
Diligent-Parfait-236@reddit
I am familiar with what I am talking about.
GableStoner@reddit (OP)
I just used my microscope at work. No shedding 😂 where are you hearing this?
DarthMonkey212313@reddit
Airflow causes friction and wear too. Especially at the high speeds involved here.
GableStoner@reddit (OP)
Sure, but the baffle erosion is pretty minimal for thousands of rounds. My point is you're not getting any meaningful exposure levels compared with any other use case for this filament. Like others have said, the lead from shooting .22lr is a much bigger concern for health. But then again, there are people who choose to shoot wearing gas masks on. Different strokes I guess.
Ancient-Plantain705@reddit
There are microplastics in my brain and my balls. Does it really matter that the fibers like to embed in shit?
44_SMLE@reddit
Breaking news - lead is a toxic heavy metal /s
If you're worried throw a suppressor cover on it so you don't touch it and shoot outdoors so you don't breath in any potential airborne particles
Sasselhoff@reddit
So because one thing is hazardous it makes other hazardous things not important?
ftsapr@reddit
a suppressor cover won't stop particles from exiting via the business end of the suppressor, which is the concerning stuff, you know because it's being burned up by the flash and hot gasses from the firing projectile.
44_SMLE@reddit
My point was shooting in general exposes us to toxic air particles, hence my shoot outdoors comment
akrisd0@reddit
Although I think there's little to worry about in this case, the difference is that lead levels can be lowered, but sick, lightweight, carbon fiber lungs might become a problem.
44_SMLE@reddit
So the real solution is to fully LARP with a gas mask
akrisd0@reddit
No. It's neon underglow to complement your carbon intake.
redacted_robot@reddit
Nah, the lead and CF particles cancel each other out. RFKjr approved!
Sasselhoff@reddit
Dang, I didn't even think about that. I am super careful when doing any adjustments/filing on a carbon fiber drone frame or when I'm cutting my arrows down, because carbon fiber dust is no bueno.
Can't think this would be all that great...at least for the first few shots and then again when it started to deteriorate.
ChevTecGroup@reddit
I dont believe that is true...
BloodyRimhole@reddit
Not sure if it's safe or not, but there are a lot of people printing cans out of carbon fiber nylon at home

KineticTechProjects@reddit
Isn't the FTN design copyrighted?
dieplanes789@reddit
That would go wildly against the whole point of why they were created.
KineticTechProjects@reddit
It says in the license file "free to distribute the original or modified design, as long as it is without charge and source code is included". I think the idea is to share the design FREELY, which is the point, not to make a profit off them. I mean if you released a design for free that you worked hard on and then someone took it and started selling it for profit would you not be upset?
squeeshka@reddit
I’m torn about it myself. Sure, c4 didnt design them or have any part in the FTN series (that I’m aware of) but at the same time, they’re pretty transparent and using the original name. Anyone who looks up the FTN5 and does a bit of research can see exactly where it actually comes from.
On top of that, C4’s YouTube channel gives full credit to PLAboi in their video based around the FTNs.
Sure they’re making money but it’s not outrageous and I imagine there’s costs they incurred to get into the SOT game.
KineticTechProjects@reddit
True, and they're not making a crazy amount of money on this at that price. It does also bring the FTN to even more people, which could be a good thing. Most people I know who shoot guns do not 3D print gun parts or suppressors.
GableStoner@reddit (OP)
Also, 5% of the Ftn.5 proceeds are also going toward the Hoffman legal fund, which is the only place the creator ever even allowed donations.
I think you hit the nail on the head though with getting it into more hands. I highly encourage anyone to get into the hobby especially if you live and breathe guns. But to be real, it's not for everyone. This gives that crowd the same accessibly.
Not to toot my own horn here, but without going into more details, I've paid my dues and then some to this community.
It's a little bit of a different mindset for me when I'm working on something that benefits everyone vs taking time away from my wife and kids to work to give a single individual something for free that they could've just done themselves.
I'd argue this isn't benefitting off of anyone's work any more than anyone else who form 1s if. It's a lot more work than you'd think to sell these. And I'm just not willing to do that work for free.
ExistingClient8148@reddit
ohh they are making a crazy profit on this per can
Ancient-Plantain705@reddit
Free license.
Jsatx2@reddit
Imagine selling someone else’s file and $8 in filament for $125. Makes me wanna get a SOT
GableStoner@reddit (OP)
There are SOTs who do transfers that involve half the paperwork, none of the other work involved, and charge $200 (ie form 4s).
I highly encourage it and honestly am a little surprised that nobody else is doing this yet. But on the other hand, the work to money ratio isn't as good as you might think, especially for a small shop.
Not really a big incentive to pivot for existing SOTs if you can just do 2 form 4s for the same price.
I think the same arguments can be made for a lot of the firearms industry at this point, really since the advent of consumer grade printers that can handle engineering grade filament (and vice versa).
But who knows, maybe someone with resources and can manage economies of scale efficiencies will pick these up and start cranking them out for cheaper. I'm all here for it if they do.
Stickbird3D@reddit
Could at least you the cad files to put the washer in correctly….
New_You184@reddit
Nothing like selling FOSSCAD
Sad-Context2701@reddit
My first thought was I wonder how the 3D2A community feels about this lol. Anyone with a printer can print one for a friend when it takes all of maybe 10 bucks of filament to print one, after said friend does a form 1 of course. It's legit in the realm of "Get me a 6 pack and pick which one you want" lol
GableStoner@reddit (OP)
Pla boi actively encourages it in his readmes
Ancient-Plantain705@reddit
And honestly, considering overhead, potential failed prints, and other business expenses, I don't think you're asking an unfair price. Especially with $0 stamps. You're charging folks for the print and product, not the design.
GableStoner@reddit (OP)
I think I just replied to your other comment. But a lot of the cost is paperwork and book keeping type stuff for the atf behind the scenes.
Steel cans are even super cheap from a materials standpoint, and relatively easy to produce. Not as easy as a 3d printer makes it obviously, but it's still nothing crazy.
The market is the way it is because of the bs regulation and paperwork that goes into it. But hopefully that's on its way out
New_You184@reddit
I usually don’t mind, but not giving any credit leaves a sour taste.
squeeshka@reddit
They’re using the original name and they have a YouTube channel that gives full credit to plaboi. Sure the actual listing doesn’t credit plaboi but they’re certainly not trying to hide anything either
Sad-Context2701@reddit
Hell yeah, that's awesome. The more I learn about that community the more respect I have for them.
Ancient-Plantain705@reddit
In their defense, PLAboi's website (before he went dark again) did say he was cool with FFLs printing and selling his designs.

Quadrenaro@reddit
Neat. I was looking for exactly this the other day.
ExistingClient8148@reddit
I would feel a little better about this if they were peddling these for about $75 or lessthey still would be making ridiculous profit and at that price it would be industry changing. It’s just a matter of time though until someone applies for their sot and cuts their price and the race to the bottom will be on. And that in my mind will make playboi happy not the fact someone is profiting several and I mean several thousands of percent profit and easing the costs a little… these could literally sell for $40 and they would be at a thousand percent profit profit.
GableStoner@reddit (OP)
I'm honestly surprised we haven't seen any other SOTs doing this.
My guess is that it's not worth the time that goes into all the paperwork involved. Especially when most SOTs charge $75+ just to fill out a form 4 for you.
ExistingClient8148@reddit
I’ve printed quite a few of these and still have about 20 form 1s waiting to print more. They all have held up amazingly well other than the ftn5 flow on a 5.56 it’s looking rough and is relegated to a bolt gun. The 9mm pcc and .22 stuff though is holding up good and that’s to frt firing and sub 300 bo and super and sub 9mm
dieplanes789@reddit
If you have one, how do the standard vs flow rimfire variants hold up with 22lr? I have a form 1 pending on a flow but I am considering looking into making a normal model as well.
I plan on using them with a 10/22.
Mostly curious in terms of firing schedule with heat, and buildup.
I don't shoot often but when I take a 22lr to the range I shoot A LOT of rounds though it.
GableStoner@reddit (OP)
I can chime in on this, I have some decent knowledge on the topic- Depends on what material you are printing and firing schedule.
Flow thru gets hotter, but there is less pressure.
But It takes a lot of fully auto back to back for .22 to start to melt these in pa6cf or ppa-cf.
If you are printing in a filament that's not as heat resistant, like regular pla, I would go with the flow thru and shoot slow, since it isn't as tough or strong.
If you are going to mag dump A TON and can print in pa6 or PPA-cf then go with the non flow through.
dieplanes789@reddit
Thank you! I wasn't sure if the flow would get hotter or slower but that answers my question.
Guessing there aren't any pros to the flow model on a 18.5" 10/22. Any difference in gas from the receiver possibly?
I don't remember the exact formulation but I will be using CF nylon.
GableStoner@reddit (OP)
I'm sure someone will disagree, but I haven't noticed any gas to the face either way. Imo, the only advantage to the flow is for using those weaker filaments so they don't break as easy. CF nylon should be gtg. But to be honest, the real answer is to file a bunch of form 1s and just print both 😂
dieplanes789@reddit
Yea, the eforms page really needs to allow you to submit multiple line items for a bunch of suppressors then generate forms for each at the end.
It's not hard, just time consuming :(
Thinking about also submitting form 1s for a slim and a regular. Just need to figure out a good way to cut the metal tube and engrave a curved surface.
squeeshka@reddit
The file pack has a jig to cut tube down to the correct size for the slim. It also has links to the washers for the flow and regular ones.
As far as engraving, engraving pen is cheap and so are letter stamps.
ExistingClient8148@reddit
If your going to print one print the slim the flow is a tad bit quieter but massively bigger for not much improvement. Pillpopper v2 is pretty decent also
MrFartyStink@reddit
You should shout out plaboi for designing it and all the testing him and his beta testers did when they released this for free online. Iv printed 2 of these and they work fine.
GableStoner@reddit (OP)

A p2s will cap you at pa6cf but there is no skill involved in this it’s literally file form 1 dry it download it download the 300bo pa6cf settings bump it to 300 degrees and hit print. It ain’t rocket science.
GableStoner@reddit (OP)
Yeah agreed It's definitely not rocket science and there are tons of resources out there. But if you're going to put the money into buying a printer, imo it's worth it to go with the Q2 so you can unlock PPA. Even though I hear the Bambu printers make it super easy, taking the time to learn it is worth it imo.
But on the other hand, I also tell people they should build their ar15s instead of buying complete, but some folks just don't want to bother, which is fine too not everyone has the time. Kind of the same thing imo.

Completely agree with q2 if you’re a tinkerer. Bambu though is the apple of 3d printers stupid easy
squeeshka@reddit
The difference is that someone else prints it and you go through a form 4 with a shorter waiting period instead of filling a form 1 and waiting 2+ months and printing it yourself.

Innovation and accessibility great for us all...Fingers crossed with QC of all these new companies moving forward. Being unregulated item let's hope no one injured as a result of poor QC. Or litigation where so brands advertise as low back pressure where its only reduced. I'm not a fan of regulation but let's hope no for better. Its makes no sense this accessory item needs to be registered.
ftsapr@reddit
dang, my ffl only charges $50 for nfa transfers, $175 isn't too bad a price to test one out
dicklibby@reddit
Buy a printer for a little more and print it yourself
Sad-Context2701@reddit
Seriously, it's 10-15 bucks of filament a can
explorecoregon@reddit
Or a traditional metal can for $200.
TheBraceGuy@reddit
How do they hold up to FRTs?
ExistingClient8148@reddit
I have printed a few ftn5’s they literally are as quite as my hux ti22 and have about 1k rounds through mine. They are bigger and uglier though
Hellsing971@reddit
This is incredibly deceptive. This is not straight carbon fiber. It's PLASTIC with carbon fiber in it. You can't 3d print carbon fiber. But you can 3d print plastic with carbon fiber in it. It'll be about 20% carbon fiber at most, the rest is plastic.
anonywingbat@reddit
Does this work on a threaded tx22 toro?
crypto6g@reddit
I’ve gotta find somewhere near me who doesn’t charge 100 for nfa transfers
