I'm looking at a price sheet as they want us to become a dealer. MSRP is $3999 for Standard version and $4377.77 for Launch Edition. Let me know who wants to buy one and we'll get setup as a dealer. Will need prepayment when ordering.
Black parts are plastic, right. I think it's just because they didn't produce in a larger batch and design/production costs are high. Maybe if they start massproducing it will reduce the price. even for 2k, pricey spicy
If they had a MFG engineer worth a damn this thing could list for like $800 it's criminal to charge a cent over $1,200 for this thing unless the internals are all Chrome plated
As a MFG engineer in the industry, I’d say it’s probably due to the size and internal complexity of the components that need machined and the duality of machines vs workholding. If you have a nice 5 axis you can do a lot with few ops, but if it’s a small basic 3 axis you’re looking at 3 ops or more. But that 5 axis ain’t paying for itself. If you depreciate that machine out and you’re only making 100 parts a month you’re looking at some serious part costs. You’ve got to make some serious volume to take a 750k machine and turn that depreciation into less than a dollar a part in machine overhead.
That's where the knowledge from the old guys and the methods of the young guys in the field come together. A good fixture setup with good tooling and HEM would make 500 parts in a month even with a basic 3 axis. Add a B axis and a tombstone to switch between operations make it 1500.
A 5-axis is nice but it really isn't critical for making gun parts fast.
The problem with modern gun production is most of the CNC guys are very green and even though they are familiar with newer machining methods a lot of them lack advanced fixture building knowledge and rely heavily on software to generate all of their code which can cost them minutes per part.
How does one get into this field? I’d love to learn hands-on training from a skilled professional. I just don’t want to go to school for something that I might end up not being that into.
(Without degree) - go to a machine shop and work for a year as a bare bones operator and try to absorb every bit of knowledge anybody is speaking. After that go be a junior guy at a job shop and learn the more intricate mix of manual and CNC machining. Then after a few years of that go work at prototype shops which are much more selective to get in to.
While this is going on learn as many CAD and cam softwares as you can get free trials because shops mainly use mastercam but there's many others and some are more suited to some jobs than others.
(With semi-relevant degree) - Go to a machine shop and work as a junior engineer and ask the old guy as many questions as you can ask without him killing you. Volunteer for manual work that you can learn from, mainly the Bridgeport. Do that for 3ish years. Then go work in a prototype shop as an engineer.
That’s all still a lot of overhead. A 3+1 system is great for throughput but I don’t think these guys are going to sell enough to need the time saved from part handling. I know what you mean for sure, but I’m thinking this is more the style of a job shop due to the likely lack of demand.
I think that’s the big problem everyone suffers from starting out. It costs money to make money.
Google can't seem to answer this. Is this a direct blowback? They're saying it's "recoil delayed", or one source is saying this is just direct blowback, and one source is saying its roller delayed. For a 3 grand gun, I hope it's not just crude DB.
Saw the video of them at whichever conference. Thought it was a neat little cheap plinker/HD carbine for people who want something simple but less traditional. Then they mentioned the price.
For how much these cost I cannot figure out who their market is. Almost no one in the US that can actually afford one of these is going to even want one. I could buy a B&T APC, optic, suppressor, light, spare mags, and ammo for that price.
They give it to enough guntubers and influencers they’ll have people lining up with their money in hand for these things. Much like when Garandthumb featured the HCAR, everyone was suddenly interested in buying one.
Absolutely no sense, you can nearly buy a JP5 for that money and that is probably one of the smoothest shooting and reliable 9mm carbines that will ever exist.
I really want the one in blue. For 3K it needs to make me shoot all classifiers at a GM level while playing only the best synthwave and then make the gun bunnies have a blowjob competition on me post-match, also while playing only the best synthwave.
So, I'll just continue shooting B class and jerking off, but this does remind me to go find a better synthwave spotify playlist.
