Try to close 1 eye and go about your daily activities. It's pretty disorienting and takes a good bit of getting used to. Much less doing things you might be doing under NODS.
I think there is somewhat of a divergence and intersection on when one might want to chose one over the other.
If you just want it to kinda goof off and look at stuff and don't really plan to utilize it training, the PVS 14 mono is the smart choice.
If you plan to train extensively under NODS, then you'll also be able to overcome any setbacks to a mono unit. So budget dictates in that category. You'll be able to be proficient with either in this case. Binos will give you superior vision, but also articulating can become a single unit at will. So there's no downside other than weight on your head and price.
If you plan to be somewhat serious about training night vision, but won't be able to do it often, and can justify the price, the duals are probably a better option.
That being said. I spent 4k on an extremely high spec PVS14 and wish I'd just waited to pick up something like this. I justified it by telling myself I'd just bridge 2 PVS14s eventually, which is heavy as shit.

Aren’t binos getting more obsolete for modern day anyways if the purpose is training larp? Thermals are pretty much mandatory so would want to run thermal bridged with pvs14 unless you got overlay money.

Obsolete in what way? It really depends on what you’re doing. For navigation, whether it be on foot or a vehicle, binos are the way. A mono a bridged thermal doesn’t help in that regard. Dynamic movement is ideal binos but if you want to statically observe wildlife/game/people, a bridged thermal makes sense here.

True of course for navigation, driving, and such depth perception is ideal. Just normally for ‘nightvision training’ people are focusing on the combative aspect in which a thermal is to night vision how night vision is to normal eyesight in the ways of capability increase.

I checked my order history and they were $3.5k. Absolute steal for that set. The gen 3 green set I ordered for my buddy was $2.9k though. This is still an amazing deal for gen 3 whites with spec sheets

Of course there's definitely better housing and optics...but youre looking at several thousand dollars more. These have manual gain, individually articulate, and have auto-off when moved up. Plus theyre durable.
