I want to “GO, GO, GO WITH CAPTAIN “O”!”
Olympic Sales Club was seen in comics in the 80s were you would sell items from a catalog and earn cash or prizes. I rememberd this and wondered if anyone had success in this hustle as kids.

I don't know if it was this specific company, but one time as a kid, I called the phone number and asked to speak to you the actual name they gave the drawing. The person on the other end was like...huh? Like, read a comic book, bro.

It wasn’t until I was much older that I realized why they had to ask for a specific person.

I banged Peggy. Smelled like Marlboro lights.

Thanks for triggering my PTSD for today. I’d kick Captain O squarely in the nuts if I could find him

Unfortunately she isn’t. I tried calling her but she wasn’t there. Now I’m stuck going to OnlyFans to find her. Really messed up my day

Not sure I'd jump on OF and search for "Peggy" ...

Well now I’m just crushed lol. First I had to relive Captain O drama and now no Peggy.

Anyone else try the 800 number to see what it was? *"Welcome to America's hottest talk line! Guys, hot ladies are waiting to talk to you!"*

I mean, what did you expect? An Octogenarian to answer: "Oh... hello... this is Peggy... I've been left in the call center all these years alone... no one calls anymore but Captain O won't let me leave until I meet my quota."

Remember the advertisements for sea horses and Xray glasses. I remember wanting both so bad. That beautiful sea horse family with crowns on their heads.

poodlepantiesbot@reddit

My mom helped me send away money for the sea horses, and I really thought I getting some cool Instead… just little specks floating around doing their thing. No crowns, no magic. Luckily, my Archie Club membership card (with my name very officially written on it) softened the blow. Sea monkeys are long gone, but I’ve still got that card.

Sea Monkeys? They were brine shrimp and the inventor of these hybrid shrimp was a Jewish white supremacist.

One was for seeds, one was for cards (birthday, holiday, etc), and then there's what you mentioned. But the biggest mystery for me was the stuff you could get selling Grit. Some sort of newspaper? Anyone?

I sold them in the late 70s, it was my master plan to get a fixed blade knife. I eventually got the knife, and I tried to use it as a throwing knife. The first throw it hit the tree and the hollow handle split in two. It was the cheapest piece of crap knife ever made. I stopped selling them and they started sending me even more magazines. They would include a letter basically saying, "You didn't sell any last week, so we are sending you twice as many this week for reasons".

My brother and I attempted to sell seeds for a short period of time. It went very poorly and we quickly lost interest.

I sold Grit at around 11 years old. I kept the cash instead of turning it in for prize points. I don’t remember how many I sold but I do remember selling all of them around the neighborhood. This was around 1981

My grandma had a subscription to Grit. Very rural feel to it, lots of random little articles and the occasional recipe.

I used to sell Grit magazine when I was a 12-year-old kid.

I did this. I'm not sure if it was for Olympic or something else, but it had an ad just like this. I think I remember selling cards and wrapping paper from the catalogs. My Aunt lived in a small city where she knew everyone on her street and she took me around and I got some customers. From the ad, I wanted the metal detector but I didn't sell enough so I ended up with the bow and arrows. The arrows were made of wood and didn't last long but the bow was made out of fiberglass and was okay for a while, at least for a kid like me at the time.

The hustle was being worked by Olympic on anyone who tried pumping this crap. But as a kid, that page didn't look like a collection of some of the cheapest made garbage on the planet, it looked like a treasure trove.

I sold Olympia in the 80s, but always took the cash. Was cleaning out a dresser a couple weeks ago and found one of my favorite products, the shell shaped stationary set. I was sad it wasn't complete, I would added it to my vintage stock.

I did that one year and got a crazy cool chemistry set, but now I see I could have ordered an x-acto deluxe knife chest for selling the same amount of items, and given my mom the same amount of stress. The 70’s were wild.
