An app that can detect insects, animals, and plants with machinelearning and give you data for it, encouraging hiking

So I guess this thread is dead?

You would love iNaturalist! My coworkers and I use the app at my work and always recommend it to people looking for a good identification app. It's an initiative started by California Academy of Sciences and NatGeo Society that let's people connect with each other, scientists, and naturalists. There's guides you can read and different activities you can participate in. It's basically like a real life pokedex because you can keep track of different animals and plants you've observed yourself.

iNaturalist is good but I find its more geared towards research and less towards having a good time. They could easily add points for finding rare forms of life or finding all common life of a certain class etc. They should honestly make a separate app for us apes that just want to use it just for fun as an IRL pokedex, instead I feel like I'm LARPing as a field researcher

I would love that

See what would be sick though is if it required you to take pictures of real life animals to complete it.
