If my grandpa was still alive he’d have been able to tell you within 0.5s of watching this. He was quite high up in Biffa and absolutely obsessed with the various machinery and he knew makes models and capabilities, used to have my granny telling him to shut the fuck up about it.

I'd side with granny, but have diligence duties towards my directors.

All that I know is I'm from Woking, Surrey (who are now majorly bankrupt due to corruption) I noticed that the food waste we separate was being thrown in the black bin (general waste) and spoke to one of my customers who informed me, to save money the council had opted to allow any bag, not just compostable and that the food waste was incinerated! P.s. only around 10% of all recycling separated items are actually recycled...

Sorry I know my comment wasn’t really helpful but that’s the sort of person you need to ask. There are people that are super into bin lorrys in the same way folk are into plane spotting or train spotting, they might be able to help.

I'm torn over whether I should have tagged "serious replies only". As it stands I've given the council a ring (they provide the collections service) who have confirmed that no it's not a dual wagon, and they're very cross.

Hi, I know a lot about bin wagons. That is a single compartment CP.Titan. If they sort through the waste at the other end it doesn't really matter. But you would want a tour to see if that's the case. Even then they shouldn't be charging you extra for recycling. Hope that helps

As a previous bin man/driver i can 100% say that in my local council, it doesn't matter if they're separated or not, they get put in the same recycling centre in the same pile (black in waste/general waste and recycling) green waste is the only one to get put in its own pile. I honestly don't know why the council insist on making put them in separate bins.

The bit that matters is our fees!

Genuine question: are they called "bin wagons"? I've onlyvever heard them called bin lorries.

They're called all sorts of things. Obi One Binobi is a good one when there's an accusation of recycling cross contamination. https://www.bbc.co.uk/newsround/articles/cn4091ypn3ro

Your video above looks more like the Terberg hoppers on the right, the entire hopper mechanism is very wide, and you can see it scoop the rubbish in entirety. The loaders aren't separate, i.e the large bin fits in the centre, rather to a side. I have seen some binmen that collect black bins do collect the blue bin if it looks like it is full / soggy / or contaminated i.e has other non-recyclable items in it, but each to their discretion really.

From the looks of it, yes - most collection wagons these days typically feature a central divider plate in the hopper to minimize cross-contamination between different waste streams, such as general waste and recycling which is what you appear to be capturing in the footage and as you can see from the footage, the blue recycle bins are being lifted to the left of the hopper while the general waste seems more central. The divider shifts automatically depending on which of the hoist arms is engaged. If both arms are engaged as in lifting a larger green bin, that will effectively close off the left compartment, streaming the green bin content to the appropriate side. You can always check with your local council if you're in any doubt.
