Fun fact, Somalia is the origin of the word "Technical," allegedly its an anglicised version of the word "Tekniko" which is also derived from of the Russian term "Tekhnikum" meaning vocational school. It originates from engineers who were trained in the USSR, defected to the revolution, and designed the nations first technicals.
It could also originate from money used to hire mercenaries referred to as "technical assistance grants" and may currently have a secondary informal meaning of“ two things which can be added together to create something better” but I need to spend more time on Somali language forms to check if thats true
TacTurtle@reddit
No, it comes from peacekeepers and NGOs writing off or recording bribes to local warlords to leave the aid convoys alone as "local technical expenses"

I thought it came from Chad fighting against Libya? The Chadians weren't supposed to be funded military vehicles but "technically" Toyota pickup trucks weren't military vehicles, so if they were to have heavy machine guns/recoilless rifles or end up having metal plating welded on after delivery, then that "technically" wouldn't be the US or France's fault.
Agreeable-Tomorrow77@reddit
The term technicals is frm Somalia civil war but the modded trucks came before in Chad
Driver2900@reddit
It could be either, I've heard many conflict accounts

How fast can we import these guys to downtown Minneapolis?
Agreeable-Tomorrow77@reddit

paxwax2018@reddit
So ah, what side of the road do they drive on in Somalia?
Sygaos@reddit
Yes.
Gribbnar@reddit
How hard is it to paint lines on a road smh
JuggernautOfWar@reddit
I don't think I'd volunteer to go out there with a paint roller amid all the random disorganized militants rolling around in armed vehicles. I mean if that sounds like a good time to you, more power to you lol

Stop giving them ideas!
Killahdanks1@reddit
Yeah, you see these fools rolling around. You try and make sure they don’t see you. Trucks full of trouble right there.
HerbNeedsFire@reddit
Ah yes, buy paint to make lines. Why didn't they think of that?
Illustrious-Sky-4631@reddit
Not as easy as you think you need specific type of paint for Roads and it depends on the material and age of said Road alongside it needing to close down for a while
Gribbnar@reddit

There’s like nothing there that would damage it. No snow and probably few heavy vehicles or machinery.

Occasionally, a coating of asphalt is laid when a tank rolls into town and causes minor damage.

Half the bros on those trucks work as taillights.
