How can the UK become energy indepedent? (Gas / Oil)
Posted by web3monk@reddit | AskUK | View on Reddit | 50 comments
We are heavily reliant on foreign oil and gas.
Recently but also longterm this seems like a bad plan.
With electric cars, heat pumps, solar panels, battery banks and wind farms it seems like we actually have a chance of removing this reliance, at least for the vast majority of residential / private use and then we'd be able to use the oil we produce from the north sea to power the rest.
What could we do as a country to accelerate this without bankrupting ourselves? Can the grid handle it? Can we bring online enough renewable energy to offset gas?
