Just got a new DAB radio. What UK stations should I save as presets?

Looking for some cool, interesting stations I can save. I've got 6 preset slots to fill up.
3 will be radio 3, Radio 4 and radio 6.
What else is cool? Both talk and music. The quirkier or more unique the better.

Radio X is our go to.
ChrisChros87@reddit
Same for me but got pissed off hearing Sombre multiple times a day, now playing Djo again after 3 or 4 years. The current playlist isn't great atm IMO. Not a Noah Kahn or Mumford fan so usually switch to RC Classic Rock for a while

Ooh, what's that?
AnonymousTimewaster@reddit
It's a reference based on a radio station in GTA: San Andreas
Illustrious_Chef7509@reddit
Kerrang, absolute radio, planet rock, Radio X
iceman2g@reddit
It's not quirky or niche, but I'm in my forties and Radio X is basically my Spotify playlist - if you were into 90's and 00's indie/rock pop, it's nothing but bangers.
VolcanicBear@reddit
Kerrang.
SWTransGirl@reddit
This is the only suitable answer.
tondek-0@reddit
Not if you don’t like metal.
SWTransGirl@reddit
Well, sucks to be you then 🤣
Best community of people, great artists and timeless tunes too.
tondek-0@reddit
I didn’t say I didn’t like metal.
SWTransGirl@reddit
Then it doesn’t suck to be you, and you get to experience the amazing community we are.
happyhippohats@reddit
The only good metal station in the UK is Primordial radio, but it's online not DAB.
Ok_Cow_3431@reddit
If you can deal with 50 adverts every 3 songs. I like Kerrang and tend to be my station of choice in the car but damn do they love ad revenue. They play a reasonable number of songs that verge quite close to pop music and play far too much machine gun kelly
Mog_X34@reddit
Plus Planet RockÂ
DeanyyBoyy93@reddit
Planet rock.Â
The DJs are chill and the music is solid. Theres adverts but can't have it all.
crucible@reddit
Some DJs play too much Rush for my liking.
Where “too much Rush” is defined as a non-zero number
Fando1234@reddit (OP)
Ah yes!!! I remember this from decades ago when my mates dad used to have it on in their kitchen. Good shout.
TroublesZoo@reddit
Depending on your age, either Absolute 90s or Absolute 00s!
LittleSadRufus@reddit
Absolute 10s is great too.Â

I think you made a few people aware of their own mortality!
discoveredunknown@reddit
They have an Absolute 10s? This could be my bag… now I know why my Dad feels the way he does about Absolute 70s
LittleSadRufus@reddit
I only discovered it last week. My 10yo thought it meant 1910s, couldn't process it was for the decade she was born inÂ
Alternative-Emu2000@reddit
Now I've got the image of an excited child turning on Absolute 10s and then being bitterly disappointed that they aren't playing "It's a Long Way to Tipperary" or "My Old Man Said Follow the Van"
coffee_robot_horse@reddit
I listened to Absolute 10s for a little while because I thought it was great there was a radio station for people who look like me
mumblyjoe8e@reddit
90's is still on? I thought you need their app for that now?
LithiuMart@reddit
Absolute Radio and Absolute Radio 90s.
AndrewHinds67@reddit
Radio Caroline. I'll be honest, though, DAB isn't very good. The sound quality is quite poor compared to FM and most stations are mono. You're better off buying a network player for a Hi-Fi system. The sound quality is super, the stations are in stereo and you can listen to Internet radio from around the world. I have a DAB/FM tuner in my system and the difference between DAB and FM is very noticeable.
Alternative-Emu2000@reddit
Radio 4 Extra
Audio books, comedy, drama, science fiction, panel shows, documentaries, etc. it's mostly archive material from Radio 4, plus some original programmes.
Stevemachinehk@reddit
And no news!

If you've got DAB, then that "builders radio" station is pretty good. I had a good laugh from it when I listened to it in the work van.

It's an oddball one (it's a dementia friendly radio station).
Plays some really decent tunes at times, but you will also get "how much is that doggie in the window" too.
No adverts, news, or annoying presenters though...
Sincere_city@reddit
Nice. Dementia friendly is probably good for anybody. Like baby shampoo and dog food

It obviously depends where you live as to what's available to you. Some local stations might be worth saving but they can be hard to find.

We no longer live in UK but Absolute Radio 80's and 90's.

Azatom DAB. Foxton. Available on Amazon. Nothing special, but an upgrade on my old one so I'm excited about it.
Listening to radio while I cook is one of my fav things after work.
TomLondra@reddit
That’s exactly the one I already have. In fact, I have two. Perfect for listening in bed and easily pressing the buttons in the dark. I have them programmed for BBC radio 4BBC radio four extra, BBC World Service, LBC, and Times Radio.

Frosty_Leg4438@reddit
I really like “Magic Musicals”
Its an offshoot of magic fm (relaxing, slightly corny songs “dance with my father again-Luther van dross” etc) BUT dedicated to show tunes from musicals!
Youll get Chicago, wicked along with more obscure older west end songs.
Fando1234@reddit (OP)
My gf would love this. She works in musical theatre.

For the quirky, try browsing some global stations, following one for a week or two to get the gist, then maybe try another until you have a favourite.
tondek-0@reddit
On a dab radio?
matomo23@reddit
Yes, but I don’t know if they’re being sarcastic. Global’s stations are most certainly not quirky.
AnonymousTimewaster@reddit
Heart 80s all the way for me. I'll never forgive Global for killing off XS Manchester but Heart 80s will always be golden to me.
GreekVicar@reddit
Similar to Radio 3, try Magic Classical - especially Charles Nove from 7am
